New reports have surfaced that Nexus 6 was originally suppose to sport a fingerprint scanner but plans were ruined by Apple. Motorola was actually working with a company, AuthenTec in developing fingerprint recognition technology but when Apple acquired AuthenTec back in 2012, Motorola had to turn to other partners. Apple used the new purchase to come up with Touch ID.
Former Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside stated that other options weren’t good enough and that’s why the fingerprint scanner didn’t make it to the Nexus 6. The company made a crucial decision to pull the feature out last minute and not settle with a lower level product.
