Android 5.0 Lollipop is adding a new “Ambient mode” feature for the Nexus 6. This also includes other compatible Android devices that works a bit like Moto Display technology.
When the Ambient Display is turned on, the application will wake the phone up when receiving new notification. It was mentioned from the official Android Lollipop page that a similar feature that doesn’t call it by name, describes that, “where supported by the hardware, your device will wake up as soon as you pick it up or tap the screen twice.”
Lollipop devices with AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) displays like the Nexus 6 should allow notifications to show up in a manner very similar to the Moto X. However, Google has yet to clarity on how it will work. Devices with the LCD display on the other hand will still benefit from things like the ability to wake the display through lifting or tapping.
Before users rush out to try and see if the feature can be turned on, well, we’ll save you some time; no it doesn’t. The feature will only be found in the final build.
