HMD’s mantra with their Nokia line up of devices is to empower content creators. They also stick to their guns when it comes to delivering what consumers want. With all their promises to deliver, the company has married their content creation with the premium features that consumers want in their new Nokia 8 Sirocco. The Nokia 8 Sirocco comes with all the bells and whistles that you can expect from a premium flagship device.
On the design front, the new smartphone comes with a curved edge-to-edge display on the front. It ditches the aluminium that Nokia uses in its other devices for precision crafted stainless steel. The Sirocco keeps with HMD’s philosophy of crafting the frame from a single block for added structural integrity. It also has an ultra-compact profile with only 7.5mm thickness which tapers off to 2mm at the edge. The edges are also diamond polished for a luxurious finish. The device is also 95% vacuum moulded glass. It is also rate IP67 for dust and water resistance.
Nokia’s Premium Class Flagship with Specifications to Match
While design can is important, the all looks and no substance is just not acceptable. Rest assured that the Nokia 8 Sirocco has substance. The Nokia 8 Sirocco comes with a powerful Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. While there is no support for microSD expansion in the Sirocco the UFS 2.1 architecture ensures that the phone will be speedy and swift.
On the display front, the Sirocco has a 5.5-inch Quad HD pOLED panel with a resolution of 2450×1600 pixels. The screen melts seamlessly into stainless steel frame. It’s also part of the vacuum moulded Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which wrap the body of the device.
The Sirocco is equipped with 4G LTE connectivity and supports WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with a MIMO configuration for better connectivity. It is also equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 and ANT+ technology. Also supported is GPS, AGPS, GLONASS and BDS as well as near field communications (NFC). The Nokia 8 is loaded with sensors including the ALS/PS, g-, e-compass, gyro, hall and barometric sensors.
The Noka8 Sirocco doesn’t come with dual front firing speakers. It does have a single speaker with smart amplifier technology. In addition to this, the device also comes with three acoustic overload point (AOP) microphones which will allow you to record crisp sound in noisy environments.
All of these features will be powered by an integrated, non-removable 3260mAh battery. The device also supports Quick Charge 4.0 and Qi wireless charging. The Sirocco also says sayonara to the 3.5mm headphone jack. It instead has a single USB-C port for charging and comes with a USB-C to 3.5mm converter in the box.
Cameras for Content Creation
Yep. Cameras. The Nokia 8 Sirocco is equipped with ZEISS optical technology for better performance on both the front facing and back cameras.
The main camera is a dual sensor setup. This consists of a 12-megapixel, wide lens sensor and a 13-megapixel telephoto lens sensor. The former is an ISOCELL sensor with a 1.4µm pixel size and dualphotodiode technolgy. It has a f/1.75 aperture and a 78° field of view (FOV). The latter is also an ISOCELL sensor with 1.0µm pixel size, an f/2.6 aperture and a 47.3° FOV. This setup is complemented with a dual tone flash.
The front facing camera is a 5-megapixel fixed focus, ISOCELL sensor with a pixel size of 1.4µm and a f/2.0 aperture. The front facing flash is a display flash.
Pricing & Availability
The Nokia 8 Sirocco will be available beginning April 2018 for €749 (RM3,607.78). It will only be available in Black.
