The now Lenovo-owned Motorola Mobility recently announced their latest flagship device, the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. The devices bring Motorola’s take on modularity to the mass market. The aptly named MotoMods bring added functionality and cusotmisability by simply attaching “mods” to the back of the device. These mods attach via a magnetic 16 pin attachment and have thus far been quite sturdy.
However, it looks like the Moto Z and Z Force are simply the tip of iceberg for Motorola. It was recently revealed that the Moto Z devices have another sibling still in the works. Continuing the trend we first saw last year with the Moto X, a yet unreleased Moto Z Play has surfaced on the internet. The Moto Z Play is looking to be Motorola’s mid-range offering from the Moto Z family. Leaks on AnTuTu seem to confirm that the Moto Z Play will be coming with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 with an Adreno 506 graphic processor. The Moto Z Play will apparently be coming with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. AnTuTu indicates that the device will be coming with a 16 megapixel back camera and a 5 megapixel front facer and will be running Android 6.0.1.

In addition to somewhat “confirmed” specifications, images have surfaced of the Moto Z Play sporting a headphone jack. The omission of the headphone jack in the Moto Z and Moto Z Force have been somewhat sore point. This is due to the fact that a majority of headphones in the market have yet to support USB-C. However, Motorola has trued to mitigate this by including a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter in the box.
With the specifications of the Moto Z Play surfacing, we can be quite certain that this is in fact the “entry level” for the premium Moto Z family. Prices of the Moto Z and Z Force start from USD$624 (RM2543.89) and USD$700 (RM2935.26). Of course, these are prices from Verizon for the DROID editions as Motorola has yet to release the unlocked versions. The pricing indicates that it will be likely that the Moto Z Play will come in at about USD$300 (RM1224).
