We weren’t surprised when rumours were heard that Microsoft has jumped on the smartwatch wagon. Well, we hate to say this but expectations may be broken in this update.
According to sources speaking to Paul Thurrott, Microsoft doesn’t intend the wearable to actually be a smartwatch. The company is actually planning a Gear Fit style health tracker that just has features such as delivering phone notifications and timekeeping. Rumours that there will be a host of fitness sensors along with support for Android, iOS and Windows Phone were further reaffirmed as well.
Recent Microsoft patent applications that have been published also illustrated the wearable interface concepts that allows users to track runs, send text messages and navigate. There is also a vertical charging dock explained and pictured in the applications.
Nevertheless, just because these details were in the documents, this doesn’t mean that any of them will be part of the final product. The only thing they do give us is a good picture of where the company is heading with their version of this wearable. We are a little sad though, that Microsoft will most probably not producing a smartwatch like the other tech giants.
