Just last July, Microsoft announced that due to the acquisition of Nokia, it will need to do some cleaning up. An after effect of that trimming is that 18 000 employees will unfortunately lose their jobs. 4 700 out of the firing will be straight from Nokia’s factory and R&D centre located in Beijing. The First Financial Daily reported that the company is taking a very unconventional way to ease the tension.
Microsoft has not made the first ‘you’re fired!’ move yet. Instead, the company is encouraging employees to volunteer to resign. Employees who do so will get a very attractive volunteer resignation package which includes a brand new Lumia 630 smartphone. The deal is first come, first serve and is offered up to 300 workers per day.
Well, as much as Microsoft is trying to ease the blow and keep everyone calm by doing this, the news has not gone over well with most of the employees. Reports have been coming in about protests at the Nokia factory and offices. It will be a huge problem if the company doesn’t contain the matter.
Maybe the employees would have taken it better if some higher end flagship phone like the Lumia 1520 was offered instead!
