Microsoft to hand out Denim in 2015
If you thought Microsoft was going to get into jeans retailing, well you’re out of luck. They are instead prepping for the release of the latest update in Lumia firmware, dubbed the Lumia Denim.
The Lumia Denim has been highly anticipated as it brings a slew of updates to spice up you Windows Phones. It brings 4k video recording and also hotword activation of Cortana by saying “Hey Cortana”. On top of these new features, you will also get the customary performance enhancements that comes with pretty much any major update. Microsoft has even demonstrated a speedier camera performance through more software enhancements.
While all that seems appealing, Microsoft has been back and forth on when it will release this update. They used to be more open with information like this, even having a dedicated site offering details on the current status and availability of a firmware update. It recent times however, they have significantly reduced the information available, leaving just publishing data on the most recent update released. While that leaves a bad taste in the mouth, the Denim update did roll out, albeit being restricted to just China alone. Those in the West, it looks like it is going to be a long wait.
Microsoft did release a statement saying that “a wider rollout of Lumia Denim to all Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1 is expected to begin in early January, following partner testing and approvals.” To be fair, that does not really say much since; one, they do not explicitly state an ETA and two, “following partner testing and approvals”? That could weeks or even months. It may be Lumia’s biggest update to date but patience is definite requirement.
