OPPO, by now should be a familiar brand to you. The brand in Green has been some of the most popular choices in the mid-range marker of the smartphone industry in Malaysia. They also make some very interesting and compelling devices along the years. Combined with solid built quality and very reasonable price point, there is little wonder to the China based smartphone brand’s success in Malaysia.
Last year too they launched something called the OPPO Find X, their brand new flagship to celebrate their entrance to European market too. The Find X, however stunning it looked and innovative it is, is not the device that would define the brand though. To us; the brand, at least in Malaysia, is defined by two of their most popular smartphone series – the R series and the F series. The R series, in our books has been flagging the OPPO name and did well for themselves. Did we mention that the R series is one of our favourite smartphone series there is?
Then there is the F series – the “not so” entry-level smartphone series from the Chinese brand. We said that because of the amount of value you seem to get from the F series. It packs plenty of the seemingly new and high-end features from more expensive smartphones and managed to offer the F series at a fraction of the asking price of the other competitors.
The OPPO F9 launched last year sealed OPPO’s reputation as one of the most popular smartphones for the younger generation of Malaysia. With some very interesting innovation in terms of their battery technology and always improving their camera performance, the OPPO F9 was really something of a bargain. It looked really good too, if we might add.
Following up to that is a little of a big ask if you ask us. The OPPO F11 Pro that they just launched today though seems to does that with some style.
So, the F11 Pro; what is this new OPPO phenomena?
What greets you up-front is a 6.53-inch Full HD+ display, 0.23-inch bigger than the F9 of last year. Well a larger display is always a good thing, it is also quite usual. The difference on the OPPO F11 Pro compared to the F9 though is the fact that there are no notches to be found. That is thanks to a rising mechanism that houses a 16-Megapixel sensor for their perfect selfie. Unlike the other pop-up type smartphone, the mechanism is in the exact middle of the frame. Not that it was bothersome, but this somehow makes plenty of sense; if not a little wrong.
By pushing the camera to that housing though means that the display is now a full on display for super immersive entertainment with your Netflix. Powering the Android 9.0 Pie with Color OS is a Mediatek Helio P70 Octa-Core processor. It may not be a Qualcomm Snapdragon but the Mediatek processor still packs a punch paired to the Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. These are also paired to up to 6GB of RAM for smooth, snappy multitasking. It packs up to 64GB of storage as well to take on all those selfies.
Out the back is the brilliant 48-Megapixel camera out the back glass housing. Before we talk about the main camera though we have to talk about the back of the device that houses everything. The gradient colour is back but more dramatic than ever. Yes, there is only two colour options. Both are really good-looking though, trust us.
Then there is 48-Megapixel camera that is paired to a 5-Megapixel depth sensor to make it a dual-lens set up. Here is where Brilliant Portrait is. The 6P lens that is on top of the 48-Megapixel sensor allows more light to be absorbed by the sensor which also means there can be more details can be captured. But that also benefits the device’s low-light photography. With some Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) know how integrated into the camera software, Ultra Night Mode and Dazzle Colour Modes can create some great results.
Keeping all these powered up for the whole work day is a 4,000mAh non-removable battery. Even this got an upgrade compared to the F9. To fully charge the OPPO F9, you need 100 minutes with VOOC 2.0. The OPPO F11 Pro needs only 80 minutes to fully charge. That also means less time spent near a plug, more time going; very important for a smartphone.
