Since the beginning of time (well not really, just when Malaysia is starting to get into e-commerce platform) Lazada has been leading the charge. Since their conception Lazada has been the top name when it comes to online shopping in Malaysia. They have also been leading the pack in terms of new offerings and features when it comes to shopping online.
Come to think of it Lazada was the first platform in Malaysia that hopped on China’s crazy Singles Day sales craze. With that also they are the first platform to include popular China brands that you normally see on platforms like Taobao and AliBaba, except now in Lazada the descriptions are all in English. They were the first online platform in Malaysia also to offer customers the ability to get their personal insurances.
Now, they are the first e-Commerce site in Malaysia to launch their own e-wallet (correct us if we are wrong). They call it Lazada Wallet (of course) and right now at least it only works for the Lazada platform. Now, shopping on Lazada just got even easier.
With the Lazada Wallet you do not have to rely on your debit cards or credits cards for payments of purchases anymore. Instead you just select Lazada Wallet as your payment option when you buy from Lazada and you are done. Of course you would still need to use your debit or credit card to top up your Lazada Wallet. Either that or you can even top it up in any 7-eleven kiosks and stores near you. If that is still too inconvenient and you do not have a debit or credit card, you can even do online bank transfers. After you have some money in your Lazada Wallet you are ready to shop.
The Lazada Wallet works as sort of a payment gateway for Lazada e-commerce site. It works as sort of a one-click payment system for users in Lazada itself; so in some sense it does work like other e-wallets. Except that you can only use it in Lazada’s platform. All you need to do to activate the Lazada Wallet now is to check on Lazada’s My Account page, of course make sure you have a Lazada account first.
As their launch initiative Lazada Wallet will give you a 10% cash rebate on your first Lazada Wallet reload (up to MYR20, so load MYR200*). If you choose to purchase anything on Lazada and pay via the Lazada Wallet you even get a 10% rebate on any purchases above MYR100 (limited time). Of course, terms and conditions apply. The Lazada Wallet is just one of the six upcoming new features to be announced later in their Anniversary announcement though, so stay tuned for more.
This does beg the question though, will this be Malaysia’s answer AliPay, and all the other e-wallets that seem to spring out of nowhere? Or, is this Malaysia’s version of AliPay? Only time can tell.
