Apple’s upcoming answer to the smartwatch market, the iWatch, has been rumoured to feature a round face design.
Multiple sources have reported that Brian Blair, an analyst at Rosenblatt Securities has mentioned the round face feature of the iWatch in a note to investors. This information and more was gleaned following contact with Asian tech supply chains. The round face design of smartwatches is not a new idea, as Motorola has already produced one in the shape of the stylish Moto 360. Furthermore, LG is also rumored to be working on one as well to be sold alongside its current iteration, the LG G Watch. When observing current smartwatches in the market, they all seem to be lacking in the design department as they generally come with square faces and minimalistic features. In fact, they resemble computer screens slapped onto a strap more than anything. The round face feature is a breath of fresh air as far as aesthetics goes and Apple seems to be aware of it.
Unfortunately, no specifications were mentioned in the not by Blair, however it was mentioned that there are multiple protoypes of the iWatch currently being tested, with one rumored to even have a sapphire screen. The development of the iWatch is rumored to be handled by Taiwanese manufacturer Quanta Computer as opposed to Foxconn, which is their regular manufacturer, possibly due to Foxconn’s involvement in the iPhone 6 development. Other key information mentioned was that the iWatch is health-focused and has biometric sensors, though not specified which type. It is expected to come in sizes for men and women.
The rumors surrounding the iWatch seems promising and would delight Apple fans worldwide yet we can’t get too excited as these are just rumors for now. But expect more details to come very very soon as the iWatch is expected to be released by Fall this year.
