iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus finally launched!
With millions of fans watching at home and members of the press ready to go at the Flint Center, Apple has finally announced the Apple iPhone 6.
CEO of the Cupertino company, Tim Cook took the stage and promised the biggest advancement in the history of the iPhone. He finally presents the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus (not the iPhone 6 Air as leaks were saying).
Two variants of the iPhone 6 were introduced – the original 4.7 inch and the 5.5 inch version known as the iPhone 6 Plus. The smaller of the two sports a resolution of 1334 x 750 while its larger counterpart comes in 1920 x 1080 resolution. Both have an IPS LCD screen and both screens feature dual-domain pixels especially for extended viewing angles and both provide full sRGB gamut coverage.
The iPhone 6 versions are thinner than its predecessors at 6.8mm and 7.1mm thick respectively, the larger version being thicker. Both variants run on an A8 64-bit chip which makes the devices run 50 times faster than the previous iPhones. Gathering motion data from the sensors on the phone, the M8 coprocessor is there to compliment the A8 chip.
Apple also introduced an special new landscape view for the iPhone 6 Plus to take advantage of the big screen. With this new gen of iPhone 6, users get better band support, higher speed data and voice over LTE support.
Both variants of the iPhone 6 sport an 8 megapixel rear camera with a True Tone Flash with the Plus having an upper hand with optical stabilization. Along with the f/2.2 aperture, the brand new camera has a feature known as Focus Pixel which is aimed at speeding up auto-focus performance and allow for continuing focal adjustments. With Apple’s latest camera software, the custom image signal processors ensure high quality shots from this device. The iPhone models feature 1.2 megapixel FaceTime.
The iPhone 6 has been upgraded to a new 240fps slow-mo video mode as well as a burst mode to capture single images at rates up to 10 images per second. There is also a single-shot HRD mode that allows users to get an extended-range pic when the conditions are favorable.
To pretty up the iPhone 6, Apple launched six colors of silicon cases for the smaller variant and five leather options for both variants. What are the price tags on the new iPhone 6? On contract, the smaller iPhone 6 will be available in 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB configurations, priced at just about $200, $300, and $400, respectively. The larger iPhone 6 Plus have the same storage capacities available but with an extra $100 on the cost. Both will be available in gold, silver and space gray.
Both iPhone 6 models will go on sale starting September 19 with pre-orders being open on the 12th of September.
On the same note, as per usual trend, Apple has cut the price of the iPhone 5s and 5c with the launch of the new generation iPhone 6. Starting September 19, the iPhone 5s with 16GB of storage will receive a price cut to $99 on a two-year, carrier contract. Meanwhile, the iPhone 5c (with 8 GB) will be offered for free on a carrier contact. These older models will still have access to the new iOS 8 software being released on September 17 so it might be worth the buy!
