Rumours have been surfacing lately about HTC and Google working together on the next Nexus Tablet presumably named the Nexus 8. The rumoured tablet codenamed Volantis/Flounder is slated to come with a full metal body similar to HTC’s flagship One series of devices. However, according to well known tipster and information source @evleaks, the Nexus tablet may not be the only tablet that HTC is going to release. Two new devices are reported in development at HTC codenamed T7 and T12. Not much information is available aside from the codenames, however, it seems like working on a Nexus tablet has spurred HTC back into the tablet arena.
Coming from recent codenames and official names of tablets, it is speculated that the T7 and T12 may be variants of the same tablet with different screen sizes akin to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and 10.2. It is more than likely that these tablet devices will be running Android, presumably Android L with the next iteration of HTC’s Sense User Interface (UI) adapted to the tablet form factor.
This marks HTC’s re-entry into the tablet arena after its first attempt in 2011 with the HTC Flyer (also known as the HTC EVO View 4G). The device came with a single core Qualcomm processor with moderate specifications and was only bested by the Motorola XOOM at the time. The 7-inch tablet was also one of the first Android tablets with a stylus and launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and was officially upgraded to Android 3.2.1 HoneyComb.
