HTC Looking into Personal Health?
HTC has enjoyed relative success with the release of its latest flagship: the HTC One M8. The device was recently voted the ‘Best Mobile Device’ back in February at the Mobile World Congress. However, unlike many other manufacturers, the Taiwanese company was relatively silent only launching one device in a relatively quiet event. However, this silence is about to be broken with the upcoming double exposure event and also rumours of HTC possibly building a GoPro-esque camera.
In addition to that, rumours have emerged of HTC looking to diversify its product portfolio with a few new additions which will allow it to enter a new market – personal health. The leak comes courtesy of @upleaks who shared intriguing pictures of a HTC made device called the ‘tricorder’. The name no doubt alludes to the medical device seen on the popular 1960s TV series Star Trek.
According to the picture, the HTC tricorder is possibly a collection of three devices – a breathalyzer, Body fluid analyzer and a scope. The first of the three analyzes the users breath, while the scope acts as a camera/scope device allowing the user to look at a recording or live video. The body fluid analyzer looks to be able to do a blood analysis as well as a urinalysis depending on the strip you’re using. It is unclear if the Tricorder interacts with a mobile device.
If this rumour is true, it will be an interesting venture for both HTC as well as the personal health industry.
