HMD Global’s entry level devices have arguably been some of the best devices bringing meaningful features and quality builds to the market at a price point that many struggle to. With the company’s commitment to manufacturing stock Android devices, the company further cements their commitment to timely updates and up to date security patches.
With the current line up, HMD has they Nokia 1, Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1, and Nokia 4.1. These devices cater to different market segments but bring the same HMD promise of timely OS updates and features that matter. At MWC, the company announced a three new devices for the segment bringing the line ups up to date and bolstering their offerings with more powerful, feature rich devices.
Nokia 1 Plus: Android Go with More Screen
The Nokia 1 Plus compliments the current Nokia 1 in offering slightly better specifications with the Quad-core MediaTek MT6739. This is complemented with either 1GB RAM and 8GB or 16GB (in Latin America only) onboard storage. The biggest bump comes in the display size of the Nokia 1 Plus which is now a 5.45-inch FWVGA+ IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.
The Nokia 1 Plus continues to be HMD’s Android Go Edition champion with a focus on pure Android and being light on the memory. It also comes with an 8-megapixel main camera with autofocus and a 5-megapixel, fixed focus front facing camera. This entry level device is also 4G capable and comes with up to dual SIM connectivity. It’ll be powered by a 2,500mAh battery.
Nokia 3.2: Bigger Screen, Longer Battery Life
The Nokia 3.2 brings HMD Global’s promise of 2 day battery life with bolstered specifications to the lower mid-range Nokia devices. The 3.2 comes with the new quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 429 with 2GB or 3GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage.
The Nokia 3.2 comes with a 6.26-inch HD+ display with a notch for the selfie camera. On the camera front, the Nokia 3.2 comes with a 13-megapixel main camera with a 5-megapixel front facing camera with face unlock functionality. The 3GB variant of the 3.2 will also be equipped a rear mounted fingerprint sensor.
Nokia 4.2: Compact, Fully Equipped for Functionality
The Nokia 4.2 brings compact functionality to its users with the octa-core (8-core) Snapdragon 439 with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. It comes with a 5.71-inch HD+ a-Si display with a 19:9 aspect ratio.
The 4.2 also comes with a dual main camera setup consisting of a 13-megapixel camera sensor with auto focus, f/2.2 aperture and 1.12µm pixel size and a 2-megapixel, fixed focus sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and 1.75µm pixel size with phase detection. The front camera is an 8-megapixel, fixed focus sensor with an f/2.0 aperture with 1.12µm pixel size.
Both the 4.2 and the 3.2 come with a new dedicated Google Assistant button which allows you to get the most out of the functionality. Single press to bring the assistant up, double press for the Google Assistant feed and long press if you need to give it a long instruction.
Pricing & Availability
The Nokia 4.2 will be available starting April 2019 for a global average price of USD$169 (RM687.16) for the 2GB/16GB variant while the 3GB/32GB variant will retail for a global average price of USD$199 (RM809.18).
The Nokia 3.2 will be available in early May for a global average price of USD$139 (RM565.19) for the 2GB/16GB variant and USD$169 (RM687.16) for the 3GB/32GB variant.
The Nokia 1 Plus will be available starting mid-March for a global average price of USD$99 (RM402.54).
