Google Play Store sees higher growth in 2014
Google Play Store has grown unexpectedly in 2014 and outnumbered the Apple App Store in many different ways. Google Play Store out-beat Apple App Store in the total numbers of apps available, the total number of developers creating apps for the platform, and Play Store has released more new apps than the Apple App Store.
Lets take a look at the charts above; from apps to developers in Google Play Store, Apple App Store and also the Amazon App Store from 2010 to 2014, we are seeing a humongous growth. With Google sweeping away 1.43 million published apps, Apple only came in second place with 1.21 million apps and Amazon is still far behind the competition with only 293,000 apps. The numbers of developers also grew for each platforms, Google ended 2014 with 400,000 developers, Apple with 300,000 and Amazon with 50,000.
We also see a hike on app development in 2014, Google grew by more than a 100%, Amazon grew 80%, and Apple only grew under 60%. Another statistic shows an increased growth in app categories, such as, Google’s Play Games and Photography apps for Android, and Apple’s Business and Food & Drinks categories rose up for iOS.
Globally, Android has always been more popular than iOS in apps developing. This has also got to do with how Google and Apple publish their apps; Apple has a more strict app approval process before getting published, while Google are a bit more tolerant up front then fixing problems and violations after the app is published.
But in coming years, we will still see the growth on both Google and Apple and wanting to see who will surpass who in apps developing and apps published. Let us know what do you think about this.
