Google is in the process of updating all its apps to prepare for the release of Android L. The most obvious app that is getting a Material Design facelift is Google Play Newsstand. The new UI update features bigger imagery and lots of transitional animations.
While the superficial changes are here to make a pretty big news as it is, Google is not going to stop there. The update now includes an improved system for reading magazines. Users will no longer have to zoom in and out just to read an article as they can simply toggle through and easily read articles with big imagery right on their device.
Google is also adding a deeper topic cards in the explore section such as things like Star Wars, Game of Thrones, etc. As Google puts it, “delivering personalized topics and up to date reading experiences for users passions and interest” is the key aim for this update.
The new version of Play Newsstand will be out on Android over the next week. Sadly though, iOS users will probably have to wait a little while longer.
