The Google I/O’s biggest highlight was no doubt, again and again ; the Android L. With the Android L we saw the release of many devices that would complement it as well. One thing we did not see though is the Google Nexus tablet; rumoured to be the Nexus 8. While every time when a device is about to be released there were always a huge amount of information leaks, excitements, and demo, there are none for the Google Nexus 8; as in there are no mentions about the device at all. This all looks like their pointing to the non-existence of the device, or that they won’t release a device.
Not so fast though, we all know Google will not give up the tablet game so easily. Though the older generation Google Nexus 7 introduced back in 2013 is still working great and lugging all that Google could throw at it there always is something new from Google’s stables, or at least we can expect something new.
In Google I/O HTC revealed that they would be making a new tablet named the HTC Volantis; sporting an 8.9-inches display definitely fits the bill into the 8-9 inches rumoured display for the Google Nexus 8. The Google tablet has always been released with killer specs with a super affordable price tag. The HTC Volantis fits the bill on the part of killer specs; fitted with NVidia’s Tegra K1, 2GB of RAM, and qHD 2048 x 1440 pixels display, it does look like the HTC Volantis could be Google’s new Nexus tablet. Are we sure? No, but we are being hopeful.
