It has been reported that the man who created the infamous Google Glass has left Google to join Amazon.
Babak Parviz, the man responsible for the Google Glass and a still-in-the-works project Google X has left to join Amazon. Google X was a project that plans to give users smarter contact lenses. This swipe up by Amazon may indicate that the company is looking to join the wearable tech industry.
Parviz is a Seattle resident who worked as a researcher at the University of Washington where he developed the first contact lenses with integrated circuits. He went on to work with Microsoft on research for blood-glucose monitoring contacts before jumping to Google.
The reasons for his departure are still unclear but Amazon’s Lab126 may be the reason. This lab is responsible for Amazon’s products such as the Kindle, Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire Phone. It’ll be interesting to see what contributions Parviz will have his hands in for Amazon.
As for Google, Google Glass is long past the research stage so the work for consumer launch can easily fall into the lap of design expert, Ivy Ross. We’re quite sure the company will do just fine without Parviz.
