Gmail is the most used email account in the world and for those who love the new Material Design in all of Google apps, here comes Gmail 5.0. Not only does Gmail 5.0 have a new Material Design, but it also supports some other email accounts from different providers such as Yahoo, iCloud Mail, Outlook and basically any account that supports IMAP/POP or Exchange.
The joy of having the ability to place all of the users accounts under one app is a welcoming change rather than juggling multiple email accounts in various apps. But it kind of gets in the way of Inbox by Gmail which doesn’t support other email accounts.
Talking about Material Design on Gmail 5.0, the splash of red color has also made its way to the header and status bar. As well as the circular button to compose emails. The redesign navigation drawer looks sharper and has a new interface for switching accounts that works better and faster than the previous version.
Another change is the unread messages are now bold. Once the users have read a message it would appear unbold. Users will also notice that the emails themselves now have circular images instead of the old square picture. These are some of the biggest changes users will find on the updated Gmail app. The bottom line here is that Google has remodelled the entire Gmail look to fit in with Android 5.0 Lollipop including its Material Design.
For those who cant wait, you can download the latest version of Gmail 5.0 and install it manually. And those who already tried or have the updated version, what do you think of the new look?
