Reports from India today have pointed to the release of a new standalone variant to the Samsung smartwatch series, dubbed the Galaxy Gear 2 Solo. Although no official word on the device have been announced by Samsung, the device has been spotted on the Indian import export database, Zauba bearing the model number SM-R710. The device, expected to be a variant of the Galaxy Gear 2, is expected to have a its own embedded SIM card via USIM module and network receiver. Thus the smartwatch is able to receive cellular data without the need to be tethered to a smartphone, hence the ‘Solo’ name. No other specifications have been listed for the device as of yet.
The name of the device is still not official though a big hint was dropped by Samsung as they moved to patent the “Samsung Gear Solo” in the US. The appearance of this device on a foreign market for testing is a good sign that the device will be released in the very near future. The device is expected to be priced on the premium, with ranges between $200-$360 as per Pocketnow.
