Facebook is looking a class action lawsuit. The Social Media tycoon allegedly has been snooping through private user messages. Why exactly have they been doing so? Well, the company has been invading users’ privacy to improve targeted ads. US District Judge Phyllis Hamilton refused to dismiss the case a week ago.
The lawsuit started last year where it was claimed Facebook were screening private chats for links to websites and basically used them to target ads at users based on chat topics.
According Facebook, it stopped doing such screening since 2012. Now, it only scans chats for spams or viruses. Another argument is that legislation, the Federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act to be exact protects Facebook’s actions. Yeah, well we’ll see about that when the trial starts in court.
