Facebook is finally taking to News Feed updates to solve the problem of hoaxes and fake news rampant on the social media site. The brand new news feed is designed to expose these fake news websites by crowd sourcing the power to the people who use Facebook.
Users are now able to report scams and fake news reports as false and once enough people have done the same, the news post will have a warning notice tagged to it telling anyone that it might be a hoax. This should make the amount of fake news post reduce.
However, we wished that the Social Media tycoon took more of a direct stand in the matter instead of fully passing the work on to us. Now, any post even if it’s real, can be tagged as a hoax which could be detrimental to real news sources. Only time will tell however, how the efforts pay off. Websites that are known to be comedic or satire in nature will not face any issues with the flagging as long as it is clearly not to be taken seriously.
