Cyanogen has made a few deals in the recent past to push itself forward into the smartphone market that is growing wild and growing fast. And it seems it just said yes to another partnership. Cyanogen, the company responsible for CyanogenMod Android distribution, will be providing its customized Android software to Micromax for the new “YU” family of Android smartphones.
Cyanogen adds Micromax to an impressive list of clients that includes the OnePlus One. Micromax stands as the second largest smartphone manufacturer in India and according to Cyanogen CEO Kirk McMaster, Micromax decided to call on Cyanogen instead of Google’s Android One platform because Cyanogen “can really make an inexpensive device seem like a much more premium-level device We are the masters at that.” He further explained that Cyanogen “The OEM may have last stopped supporting a device with Gingerbread, and we have Kit Kat running on those same devices.”
McMaster did not sadly, reveal any other news on the project. And according to The Verge, the “YU” line will not be shipped to Europe or North America.
