As is the smartphone market as well. Accodring to trends reports, the ranking will not change any time soon. As according to DigiTimes report, shipments of smartphone devices grew by 10.8% in Q4 of 2014 as compared to the Q3 in 2014. Overall, the market sees 13.2% growth as compared to 2013.
In actual numbers, about 103.9 million units of smartphones were shipped in the Chinese industry during 2014 alone! Accodring to reports, the growth and the huge number is caused by the release of iPhone 6. The cheaper 4G phones manufactured by local smarpthone makers such as Xiaomi and HuaWei also helped.
International brands account for about 30% of the Chinese smartphone market, apparently. And guess who owns half of the market share? No doubt, Apple. They own about 15% of the market share. It is then followed by Xiaomi, and Samsung is seen trailing behind. All orders from the three manufacturers combined accountw for the 40% of the smartphone market in Quarter 4 of 2014.
As for this year, it is expected that 87.8 million smartphone units will be shipped within the first quarter. Indeed, it is 15.5% lower than Q4 2014, but if you compare it to Q1 in 2014, it’s up by about 0.9%. I guess we will be able to find out in a couple of months when the reports are out!
