[CES2018] Samsung Announces First QLED Monitor with Thunderbolt
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) hasn’t yet started for 2018, but we’ve already got news coming in for the show. The first up: Samsung. The South Korean company isn’t just known for sleek, fashionable and powerful handsets; they’re also known for their prowess in making and supplying LED panels in the industry. Ever since their return into the monitor space last year, Samsung has been on a roll with multiple releases of their new QLED equipped monitors.
Over in Las Vegas, on the CES 2018 show floor, the company is adding yet another offering to their QLED monitor line up: the CJ791. This new addition to the impressive line up of curved QLED monitors is also equipped with Intel’s Thunderbolt technology. The addition of the Thunderbolt 3 port provides connectivity and processing speeds of up to 40 Gigabits per second (Gbps). This is more than four times the connectivity on its USB counterpart. The inclusion of the Thunderbolt 3 port allows users to take advantage of a whole ecosystem of connectivity with Mac devices, Thunderbolt-equipped Windows 10 systems and laptops as well as peripherals such as an external graphics processor and storage drive.
In addition to this, the 21:9 aspect ratio of the CJ791 allows users to see more on their screen. This means that business users need not zoom in and out when dealing with large spreadsheets while gamers get more field of view in their games (if the game supports it). The larger aspect ratio would be wasted without proper resolution. The Samsung CJ791 Ultra-wide QLED monitor comes with a QuadHD (QHD) resolution of 3440×1440 pixels. This gives it a higher pixel density than its FullHD competitors.
The Samsung CJ791 QLED panel is one of best on the market capable of reflecting colours across 125% of the sRGB gamut. Simply put, the increased gamut reflection promises that the images on the CJ791 will be more realistic and vibrant. Samsung touts that the QLED panel will be able to replicate deeper blacks, brighter whites and more pristine shades. With a 4-millisecond refresh rate, the CJ791 promises smooth transitions between scenes. The 1,500R curve of the panel and the 178-degree viewing angle allows users to be fully immersed in their content.
There is no indication of the price of the Samsung CJ791 QLED monitor just yet. But do stay tuned and we’ll update as soon as we get information.
