Smartwatches have been a craze these days and we are expecting to see plenty of it this year. Naturally the manufacturers of mobile devices would be joining in the craze and release their own versions of what they think is the best implementation of a smartwatch to match their smartphones. The timepiece industry though is not their playground and with that they have limited experience when it comes to trying to reach the market as a whole.
Not to fret though as there are already rumours going around that plenty of luxury timepiece manufacturers are going into the game of smartwatches as well. In fact Tag Heuer was rumoured not too long ago to be working on a smartwatch that is to be released this year. Despite all the rumours though their competitor Montblanc has released something to get an edge in the smartwatch game.
It is called an e-strap and was announced in the CES 2015 just very recently. It is not a smartwatch per se. It is just an extension to their current line of luxury wrist watches, specifically for the Mont Blanc Timewalker Urban Speed line of collection. In actual form it is just an extra module at the end of the strap line. Although not a smartwatch it does all that a smartwatch does; from tracking the user’s activities, control music, notifications, and more. The e-strap is compatible with iOS and Android and must be paired via Bluetooth to work though. Coming from a high end watch manufacturer like Montblanc you can of course expect the materials used to make this extra module to be of the highest standards too. In fact the actual strap is made using Extreme Montblanc Leather, a high-end leather material formulated by Montblanc and the module itself is made with Diamond like Carbon material to be as durable as possible (and expensive too maybe).
This accessory will of course be optional. The cost? They say that it will cost about US$418 (MYR1,491.42). The watch? The automatic with e-strap will go for about US$3,750 (MYR13,380.00) while the chronograph with e-strap goes for US$6,000 (MYR21,408.00). If you like one and want to get one head over to Montblanc later in June when it is released.
