Razer is Not Only a Gamer’s Tool, but also A Productivity Champion; Now it is with Razer Pro

When you think of the brand Razer, a few things might pop into your head. The first of many is the colour green, the signature green of the brand. You also might think of the three-headed snake logo that is associated with the peripherals manufacturer. Most of all, you think of gaming, since that is the brand’s entire portfolio. Not anymore though.

Razer realised something over the period of the pandemic, it seems. They developed some responsibility and somehow matured into a weird peripherals brand. Today, they announce their productivity line-up of peripherals.

Razer realised something while expanding their gaming peripherals empire and product offering. Over the pandemic, people who are stuck at home had to play at home, but they also had to work from home. That also means that the productivity peripherals market boomed. It also seems like workplaces are starting to realise that having a remote work structure could be more beneficial to them than having employees appear physically. That also means the work from home culture might be staying after all and demand for productivity peripherals will continue to rise.

Razer also realised that their position in the gaming peripherals industry gives them an edge in the general computing peripherals market. They know how to make great peripherals for the PC, in short. That is probably the reason why they introduced three brand new peripherals specifically for productivity.

They call them the Razer Pro peripherals. First up is the humble mouse. They call it the Razer Pro Click Mini. While the naming is a little odd, or a little bit of a no-brainer to some, the device is not. In its white clad, it is a wireless mouse that is built to accompany you on your work trips. It is rated for up to 15 million clicks.

It is also one of the most versatile mice that you can find from Razer. It can connect to up to four devices. Three on Bluetooth, and one via 2.4Ghz dongle that also comes with the mouse. Razer’s HyperSpeed technology that comes with the 2.4Ghz dongle is derived from Razer’s gaming peripherals, which also means that you might even be able to game with the Razer Pro Click Mini. Then again it does look an awful lot like the Razer Atheris wireless mouse clad in white.

Like the Click Mini, Razer’s new Razer Pro keyboard is a wireless keyboard. It also connects to up to four devices, three on Bluetooth and one via a provided 2.4Ghz dongle. Like the Click Mini, the 2.4Ghz technology opens up the keyboard to Razer HyperSpeed technology for lag-free, near instant input, seamless experience. They also claimed that the keyboard has up to 200 hours in battery life and that you can use a single dongle for both the Click Mini and Type Ultra keyboard.

Like many other keyboards, you can obviously plug it into your PC and use it as a regular wired keyboard. Like many of Razer’s keyboards, it is a mechanical keyboard. It features a soft-touch coat on the keycaps though for more comfortable typing experiences. There is also a plush wrist rest that comes with it to ensure you have the best and most comfortable typing posture possible. It packs silent mechanical switches for you to work with. In that case you get the bets mechanical keyboard typing experience without making your whole office sound like it is full of angry keyboard warriors.

No desk set up is complete without a desk mat. Razer thought of that obviously and made the Razer Pro Glide XXL for the Razer Pro line-up. Its colour scheme not only matches both newly launched product, but also exudes class and elegance.

A desk mat is more than just aesthetics and protecting your desk and your peripherals. It also helps you in your productivity or even in intense gaming sessions. The Pro Glide XXL is designed to minimise fatigue typing on regular desk surfaces. The Pro Glide XXL absorbs most of the impacts you get on your fingers while typing. Who said gaming peripherals cannot be used for productivity?

Razer Unveils the Kiyo X Webcam and Ripsaw X Capture Card – Streaming Does Not Have to be Expensive

The gaming industry is huge today. A part of that industry is also contents that you can watch and enjoy. That is the game streaming industry that is made popular by people like PewDiePie, and even Markiplier. As the eSports scene sees a huge surge in recent years, the game streaming industry also blew up. This leads to the creation of specialised hardware and accessories just for game streaming.

Webcams, for example, used to be telecommunication devices that you can use for video conferencing. Full HD webcams technically has existed forever, but never meant to be used for game streaming, although that is still possible. Capture cards was also a thing that was used by studios for both live production and regular production usage. With game streaming though, these once premium items were more in demand and more purpose built than ever. That does not mean that they become more accessible in price.

Introducing the Razer Kiyo X and Ripsaw X peripherals made for streaming. These are made specifically for streaming, but they are also made with budget in mind. These products are really designed for newer streamers who just got started in the streaming industry and looking to upgrade their gear without breaking their banks.

Razer Kiyo X

  • Kiyo X 2021 Render 04
  • Kiyo X 2021 Render 03
  • Kiyo X 2021 Render 02

The Razer Kiyo X is really a littler, more budget version of the Razer Kiyo. The ‘X’ moniker really gave it away as the more budget friendly companion in the line-up. It is capable of shooting videos at Full HD at 30fps to boot. If you want your videos to be extra smooth, you can get it to shoot at 60fps with a resolution penalty at 720p.

The USB plug and play webcam can be controlled via Razer’s Synapse software. While it does not come with its own right light, it still has something called The Razer Virtual Right Light software that goes along with it. In that case, the display becomes a light panel for the Razer Kiyo X for both video calls and streams.

Another very important item for live streaming is the capture card. A capture card functions either as a platform to record and project your games into the streaming software. From there, the software broadcasts the image that is captured from the capture card. It is commonly used in a two PC configuration, or when you want to use a regular camera as the webcam.

The Razer Ripsaw X is also technically a smaller version of the Ripsaw. It is quite a little bit more powerful than the old Ripsaw though. Where the Ripsaw could only capture streams at Full HD at up to 60fps, the new Ripsaw X can capture videos at 4K resolution at up to 30fps with HDMI 2.0 and a USB 3.0 interface. The Ripsaw X is also supposed to offer near-zero latency, which also means you do not have to be doing a lot of guess and calculation work done for streams.

Price and availability

The Razer Kiyo X and Ripsaw X will be is now available from Razer.com in the United States, Europe, and Singapore. There is no word on its availability in Malaysia, but we are expecting them to hit shelves in Malaysia soon. The Razer Kiyo X will set you back US$ 79.99 (MYR 334*) when it is available. The Ripsaw X will be available oat US$ 139.99 (MYR 585*).

[UPDATE] Sony Expands Audio Line-up with ANC WH-XB910N and WF-C500 True Wireless Earbuds

UPDATE: The Sony WF-C500 will be available in Malaysia 18 October 2021 onward at MYR 449. It will be available in black, white, green, and orange. The WH-XB910N will be available in black and blue. It will arrive in the Malaysian shores in November 2021 and sets you back MYR 799.

Sony is probably best known for their high-end audio solutions catered to the home and personal audio market. They are world renown for their legendary sound bars, speakers, and even built-in speakers for their TV line-ups. They also make arguably the world’s most recognisable noise cancelling headphones for the audiophile market, the WH-1000X series. Their latest high-end noise cancelling personal audio device is the WF-1000XM4 true-wireless earbuds.

They do not just make high-end products that is mostly out of reach to more budget conscious consumers though. They make audio products for all kinds of market. Technically, Sony is also one of the largest audio solutions providers in the world, so them service all sorts of market should not come as a surprise. That said, Sony just launched the new WH-XB910N and the new WF-C500 headphones for the masses.

Sony WH-XB910N

  • Sony WH XB910N product image 1200w 674h.jpg
  • Sony WH XB910N accessories product image 1200w 674h.jpg

The Sony WH-XB910N replaces the older WH-XB900N. It also features Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) technology. It is not the same ANC technology that you will find on Sony’s higher end WH-1000XM4 though. That also means that it will not work as well as the higher end headphone. Still, it should be an improvement over the older headphone it is replacing.

The WH-XB910N also comes with Adaptive Sound Control. The clever software defined noise cancelling program adapts your ANC program to your environment. Your ANC intensity is determined by not just your environment though, but also buy your movements in a designated area, or even where you are.

Of course, new products have to come with new technologies. The WH-XB910N packs Bluetooth 5.2 with SBC, AAC, and LDAC support for even more stable high-speed wireless connection with your smartphones or PC devices. You get up to 30 hours of playback in just a single charge.

Sony WF-C500

  • Sony WF C500 Black insitu Mid 770w 433h.jpg
  • Sony WF C500 earbuds product image 1200w 674h.jpg
  • Sony WF C500 accessories product image 1200w 674h.jpg

When it comes to truly wireless earbuds, Sony tends to stick to a single design language that cascades down from its highest end earbuds. This season is the season of the WF-1000XM4 and it shows on the WF-C500.

The Sony WF-C500 shares very similar design cues and language with its more premium brother. Other than the similar design cues though, the WF-C500 does not share a lot with its more premium WF-1000XM4 counterpart. Even its charging shell is a little different comparatively.

You get Bluetooth 5.0 still for reliable high-speed wireless networking between your smartphone and the earphones. Unlike the older generation Sony earbuds, the WF-C500 supports mono mode with either side of the earbuds. It also does not have touch sensitive buttons. They come with physical buttons instead, to control playback and digital assistant access.

The earbuds itself can last for 10 hours, that is a little longer than the WF-1000XM4. Of course, the Sony WF-1000XM4 features noise cancelling and the WF-C500 does not. The translucent charging case carries another 10 hours of battery life for the earbuds should you deplete its battery.

The IPX4 earbuds uses a Bluetooth chip that transmits audio to both sides of the earbuds at the same time for better latency between two ears. It also supports Sony’s 360 Reality Audio. You have to have services like Tidal or Deezer to experience Sony’s 360 Reality audio though.

Price and Availability

The products have not been announced or launched in Malaysia yet. That does not mean that they are not coming to Malaysia though. The mid-range audio market is a hot one in the region.

In the United States though, the Sony WH-XB910N is now available for pre-order alongside the Sony WF-C500. The Sony WH-XB910N will start at US$ 249.99 (MYR 1,046*) and comes in black, blue, and grey. The WF-C500 will start at US$ 99.99 (MYR 418*) and comes in black, white, green, and orange colour options.

IKEA and Sonos are Back at it with New SYMFONISK Table Lamp Speaker

IKEA and Sonos’ partnership started with their bookshelf speakers. In 2019, they came up with another Sonos speaker product that is supposed to blend into the home environment better. They came up with a SYMFONISK table lamp.

As soon as it launched though, opinions around the table lamp started to divide. Some liked how it looked while others do not. We kind of think that the earlier table lamp SYMFONISK looked quite funky.

2021 is a different year though and IKEA and Sonos decided its time to give their table lamp a revision. But because it is a different breed of product too, the IKEA x Sonos SYMFONISK table lamp speaker offers a slightly different level of customisation. Now you must buy the table lamp and its shade separately.

Aside from the additional options of lamp shades that are available to you from IKEA, they have also added some light customisation options. You can now use E26/E27 socket light bulbs also available from IKEA for lighting up the table lamp. With the extra customisation option, the IKEA x Sonos SYMFONISK can be customised really to fit your living spaces.

Of course, a new speaker is not really a new speaker if they do no change or improve the speaker module itself. They have done that with the new SYMFONISK table lamp though. Sonos say that the new table lamp features a new acoustic architecture. You can see the slightly different build of the new SYMFONISK table lamp compared to the old one of course. The new speaker features a new custom waveguide that is supposed to create better sounds to fill up an entire room. Of course, because it is a Sonos speaker, it is connected via WiFI and can be used either as the only speaker or even as part of a network of speakers throughout the home.

  • IKEASYMFONISK2021 1
  • IKEASYMFONISK2021 4

  • IKEASYMFONISK2021 2

The IKEA x Sonos SYMFONISK table lamp is scheduled to be available in IKEA stores and on IKEA.com in North America and selected European markets starting from October 2021. IKEA says that the SYMNFONISK table lamp will reach other IKEA markets around the globe in the coming year. The thing is, their track record with Sonos speakers in Malaysia has not been great, so we cannot tell you if it will ever make it to Malaysia. There are also no confirmed prices for the products at this time.

Razer Launches the Kaira X Gaming Headphones for Console Gaming

Console gaming is undoubtedly the most popular form of gaming in the video games industry. To be fair, console gaming has made AAA video games experience a lot more accessible to the masses. At prices below MYR 3,000, you are getting a highly advanced hardware that could play you the most graphically demanding titles at up to 4K and at up to 120fps at that. For a PC to do that, you might want to spend way north MYR 5,000 at this point.

Razer, being the one most recognized gaming peripherals brand in the world cannot call themselves a gaming brand if they do not cover or cater to a large majority of the gaming industry that is the console gaming crowd. Of course, the three-headed snake company makes peripherals specific to the PlayStation and Xbox. You have specific tournament and high-end controllers from Razer. Now, Razer also makes gaming headphones specifically for the latest next-generation gaming consoles.

Welcome to the Razer Kaira X, the essential gaming headphone for both the Xbox and PlayStation platform. As per the naming scheme of the peripherals, the Razer Kaira X is a budget version of the Razer Kaira. That does not mean that it is less featured and less powerful than the Kaira though.

The Razer Kaira X is still a powerful headphone with 50mm TriForce drivers delivering high-power audio directly into your ears. The new TriForce drivers are supposed to deliver improved frequency separation delivering crisp highs, clear mids, and deep bass. For in-game chats, there is the boom-mounted Razer HyperClear Cardioid Microphone that has a specific pick-up pattern to exclude unwanted background noise.

Logitech G435 Brings Immersion without the Carbon Footprint

Logitech has become pretty well known for their computer peripherals be it on a Mac or PC. The company has also been making waves with its Logitech G lineup; a lineup of devices made specifically for gamers. The lineup has always featured hard edges and an edgy gamer aesthetic. However, in recent years, the company has begun introducing more colour and vibrance into its lineup.

Colour and vibrance continue to permeate Logitech G with the release of their new Logitech G435. It’s not just one of the most vibrant offerings from Logitech, it’s also the first in their lineup to be certified carbon neutral. 22% of the plastics used in the headphones are post-consumer recycled content. Even the paper in the packaging is sourced from FSC-certified forests.

That aside, the Logitech G435 also continues the company’s legacy of having immersive headphones. It has 40mm drivers which provide an immersive experience with full sound. It also has beamforming mics which make sure that your teammates are able to hear you and not the noise around you.

The G435 doesn’t tether you to your PC either. It comes with gaming-grade LIGHTSPEED 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth connectivity. The connectivity options allow you to connect to your PC, Playstation, XBOX and even your Nintendo Switch seamlessly. Google One Introduces 5TB Storage Plan

If you have not known yet, Google Drive is not completely free anymore. If you check your gmail accounts and Google tells you that your storage is running out, that is because Google has brought down the capacity for free users to 15GB of storage. 15GB of storage is really not a lot and runs out pretty quickly.

Google Photos used to also offer unlimited photo storage, as long as you are not demanding for a full-resolution photo backup. Google ended that service in June and users would have to start paying for storage services under the Google One storage subscription package. Users can start with 100GB plan for MYR 8.49 a month onward. Users can opt for up to 30TB in cloud storage too for up US$ 150 (MYR 624*) onward.

The subscription plans are quite robust for users though. You can opt for 200GB, 2TB, 10TB, and 20TB storage options, if 100GB is too little, or 30TB too much for you. There was nothing between the jump between 2TB and 10TB options before this though, and that puts users in a bit of a pickle.

Google has an answer now with a 5TB Google One package. They also have priced it exactly in between the 2TB and 10TB options at US$ 25 (MYR 104*). There is a small caveat here though.

Screenshot 2021 09 14 010647
Source: Google

Eagle eyed viewers might find that most of the prices quoted are in US$. That is not on purpose though, Malaysia only gets the Google One storage at up to 2TB. You can subscribe to the 2TB Google One plan for MYR 42.99/month, or MYR 429.99 for an entire year’s worth of 2TB storage. There are no mentions on when Malaysia will get a higher tier Google One plan, if it ever happens at all.

As mentioned, the Google One storage plan is built to be Google’s answer to Google Photos backup and Google Drive. You still get to use Google Drive for free, but you are limited to 15GB in storage. The Google Drive app is also available for free on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

DJI Launches the DJI OM5 – Mobile Film Making Just Got A whole Lot Better for MYR 689

When DJI launched the OM4, we thought that it was the best DJI could make a gimbal for smartphones. At the same time, they made a smartphone gimbal that was more affordable than ever, in terms of a fully featured gimbal for smartphones for that matter. Those were the few criteria that influenced our purchase of our very own DJI OM4 gimbals. Then the DJI OM5 launched.

The DJI OM5 and the DJI OM4 shares a lot of similarities, to begin with. They are both foldable, and ultra-portable, the DJI Om5’s design allowing it to be a lot more so. Both have a large battery that you can charge via USB Type-C. Both also feature the same magnetic modular design that allows a larger convenience and versatility with any number of smartphones. In some sense, the OM5 is really the OM4 in a different body.

Except there are some differences that make the OM5 a better smartphone gimbal for content creators and even floggers. For one the DJI OM5, while being more compact than ever, packs an extension rod that extends up to 215mm to create new angles and opens new shooting options, especially when your main contents are vlogs.

The DJI OM5 also comes with a slew of improvements on the software end to make film making on smartphones easier and better. With new ShotGuides, DJI automatically understands your environment and cleverly recommends templates and even guides for getting the best out of your smartphone and gimbal set up. The end goal is to achieve a video that looks professionally filmed on your smartphone. There is also ActiveTrack 4.0 that is supposed to be a lot more responsive and cleverer than before to ensure that your tracked subject is never out of frame even when the subject turns around.

Screenshot 2021 09 09 132024
Source: DJI

The more compact design and clever folding mechanism makes the DJI OM5 even more portable than before. At just about 300g, it is even lighter than the OM4 that it replaces. If you already have a DJI OM4, the magnetic attachments are also compatible with the OM5. It still features all the software capabilities that made the DJI OM4 such a friendly tool for content creators. You still get Gesture Controls to remotely activate your DJI OM5 and smartphone to either take group photos or a group footage even. You still get TimeLapse, MotionLapse, HyperLapse, and even Panoramas function on the OM5 as well. For more creative flexibility and inspiration, Story Mode templates are there for you.

On top of all of that, the DJI OM5 also comes with a fresh new magnetic accessory that would really help in a lot of content creation situations, especially in low-light condition. The new Fill Light Phone Clamp is a friendly clamp for your smartphone just like the regular magnetic phone clamp you are familiar with if you come from the DJI OM4. Except, the new clamp comes with LED fill lights on the clamps itself. The built-in battery powered LEDs ads a fill light of sorts in three colour temperature options. It is also perfect for vloggers that needs the perfect sort of lighting anywhere.
