Mirrorless is the way to go these days when it comes to cameras. The mirrorless craze started when Sony stepped up their game with their highly acclaimed Sony A7. Their full-frame mirrorless camera is, right now, one of the most sought after high-end camera there is in the market. With the progress at the is the A7 series of mirrorless cameras and the A6000 series crop-sensor mirrorless cameras there comes a begging question; why hasn’t Canon, the leading imaging solution manufacturer in the world has not pushed into the mirrorless fray just yet?
Canon, today has answered with the EOS M50. The EOS M50 is Canon’s answer to the compact inter-changeable lens camera market. It is also the world’s first camera to be powered with Canon’s latest DIGIC 8 image processor. That new processor is also Canon’s first image processor that is built with 4K capability in mind. Alongside the EOS M50 mirrorless camera Canon also launched their highly anticipated Speedlite 470EX-AI flash and two entry-level EOS 3000D and 1500D DSLRs.
The Canon EOS M50 Mirrorless Camera
Welcome to the Canon revolution, lead by the Canon EOS M50. It packs a 24.1-Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor that sits right behind the lens. That sensor is backed by Canon’s very efficient and very famous Dual Pixel technology for near instant autofocus every time, anytime; even when you are shooting at burst speeds. It even has the super intuitive eye detection autofocus feature to ensure your live subjects are always in focus. With a maximum ISO speed of 51200 the EOS M50 is a performer even in low-light conditions.
As mentioned earlier the EOS M50 is the first Canon in the world to have the latest DIGIC 8 processor. Other than highly detailed, pretty photos the sensor also allows the user to capture videos at Ultra HD 4K resolution at 25fps (finally). If 4K is not your thing it still shoots at Full HD as well; it does that at either 120fps or 100fps for that super dramatic slow-motion videos.
When shooting at 4K as well the DIGIC 8 processor allows you to grab any single frame of the video and convert it to a high-resolution photo. If video is not your thing you still can shoot at burst speeds up to 10fps. It still boasts a horseshoe mount as well to mount your external flash or a wireless remote receiver. Keep in mind that this camera does not have a built-in flash though.
Because this is a mirrorless camera, it gets an Electronics Viewfinder with 2.36 million dots OLED that is super detailed and fast. You also get a 3.0-inch display that boast 1.04 million dot LCD touchscreen that you can swivel around like there is no tomorrow (I mean, just swivel around so that you can monitor yourself for selfies and what not). The display is also a touch panel to make navigation and touch focus much easier.
Of course, this new camera is equipped with WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC to make connecting to your phones, or tablets, or laptops easier. Gone are the days where you have to carry your camera with a separate cable to transfer images to a laptop or an OTG for you to transfer photos to your smartphone or tablet.

Welcome to the beginning of the future of photography. Welcome to the Canon Speedlite 470EX-AI. The A and I here does not stand for Artificial Intelligence if you must know. It stands for Auto-Intelligent as Canon puts it. It is the world’s first auto flash of its type, and it is clever.

Of course, you can get them from Canon Image Square or Lazada too when it becomes available. There is currently no word yet on the pricing of the intelligent flash though so watch this space.
