The Black Shark name should not be a foreign name to plenty of mobile gamers. When the first Black Shark mobile gaming smartphone was fist launched last year, it became one of the first gaming smartphones to grace the market. It was a powerful super smartphone that packs, at the time, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. Of course, then there were more powerful gaming devices like the ASUS ROG Phone later on. Earlier this year, Black Shark hits back with their next generation mobile gaming powerhouse powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. They call it the Black Shark 2, and it was one of the most powerful smartphones to launch in the first half of 2019.
With the amount of power from the Black Shark 2, it is not like you would be left in need of more power. The Black Shark 2 was also built specifically for gaming, so all that its packed in the body was to cope with the heat generated by the SoC in intense gaming sessions. Then there is display response rate, and the refresh rate that is built specifically to ensure that you hold the advantage at any games.
What if the Black Shark 2 is not enough for you, what if you need more power? We have received letters asking us specifically that (we have not). While there was no solution before, there is one now with the latest Black Shark 2 Pro. Fundamentally, both devices look nearly identical except for a few design cues here and there. The most obvious difference would be the RGB light panels on the Black Shark 2 Pro, and a new colour option that is the Gulf Blue, like of like a homage to the Gulf racing colours of those classic le mans racers. Well, except that the blue on the Black Shark is a little deeper than the cars’.
The Black Shark 2 Pro packs a 6.39-inch AMOLED display that is a full time HDR display too. With a partnership with Pixelworks, the videos and images displayed on the Black Shark to always matches the display’s refresh rate and upscaled to HDR. That also means whatever you put on the Black Shark 2 Pro will look buttery smooth and good that your regular TV will not cut it anymore. Thanks to TrueView Adaptive Display too, you get to see your device’s display even under bright sunlight. Of course, the display adapts to your use case.
The display responds just as fast as the Black Shark 2. It has about the same body shape to, inspired by race cars their say, also save for a few different indentations, and more RGB LED panels. It still packs the same camera module as well, a 48-Megapixel main camera supported by a 13-Megapixel lens. It packs about the same capacity battery too.
The biggest difference is what lies in the heart of the device though. The similarities, as they say; is only skin deep. The Black Shark 2 Pro packs a mighty Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC. The new SoC is practically a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 on steroids, the pumped up version of the original. Of course, that also means that there is more heat to deal with. The back redesign is partly thanks to the enlarged heat sink plates underneath the device and larger liquid channels for better and more efficient cooling of the super powerful SoC.
The Black Shark 2 Pro will be available in three colours – Shadow Black, Iceberg Grey, and Gulf Blue. Of course, the accessories compatible with the Black Shark 2 will be compatible with the Black Shark 2 Pro.The new mobile gaming device will be available in Malaysia on Shopee, Maxis and other Black Shark partnering retailers today, on the 3rd September 2019 onward and will retail from MYR 2,499 (8GB + 128GB) and 2,999 (12GB + 256GB).
