Beats and Bose have finally decided to settle a patent dispute that has been going between them for quite awhile. Beats has just been acquired by Apple but both Bose and Beats have been in quite the mess. Apple is rumoured to be ready to get rid of Bose products in its store to only promote Beats products. NFL on the other hand just banned Beats to take sides with Bose. This competition led to their day in court but according to Bloomberg, the legal issues are settled for the time being.
The two companies decided to settle the matter in a Delaware court after Bose in July, filed a lawsuit against Beats. It claimed that Beats infringed patent rights by using active noise reduction (ANR) technology that belonged to Bose. The company made it clear that to be successful it needs to “establish, maintain, and protect its proprietary technology through enforcement of its patent rights.”
We’re not quite sure what the terms of the settlement were or if damages were even paid. The details are not for the public ear it seems but somehow Bose might have convinced Beats to stop producing parts that infringe the patent. Or maybe it was Beats who told Bose, “No way in hell are we going to stop using ANR! So let’s just settle!” Either way the dispute… is over. For now.
