The ASUS ZenFone 5 Lite has finally hit Malaysian stores. It is a watered down variant of the current flagship the ZenFone 5 and retails for a lower price. This device caters to ASUS fans who are looking for the Zenfone 5 experience with a pocket-friendly price tag.
For a price tag of RM419 (from DirectD), RM100 lower than the original, the ASUS Zenfone 5 Lite is closer to an entry level device. It packs a 1.2 GHz dual-core Intel Atom processor with 1GB of RAM to boot, lower than the 2GHz dual core processor and 2GB of RAM of the ZenFone 5. Although it sports similar exterior features including the 5-inch display, the ZenFone 5 Lite has a lower, qHD resolution of 960×540 pixels as opposed to the 720p display of the original. It also has 8GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 64GB via microSD.
As for cameras, the 8 MP rear camera with Pixel Master technology is retained but the front camera is toned down to a VGA unit. Surprisingly enough, there is an advantage for the Zenfone 5 Lite which is a larger, 2500 mAh battery to give it a decent battery life. It will also run on Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box with their custom ZenUI skin.
