Official financial results for last year have been going around plenty and are not to new of a news anymore. What is not new also is Samsung is still the largest manufacturer with the highest amount of shipments also in the fourth quarter of 2014. What is interesting of the fourth quarter of last year though is that Apple’s shipment shot up thanks to the new iPhone 6.
The interesting bit for Apple though is that in the fourth quarter of 2014 they were also the top smartphone vendor of the year almost tying up with Samsung. Of course we cannot be sure whether or not the numbers are official since Apple stopped reporting their smartphone sales for a while now. But the estimates suggest that Apple has shipped around 74.5 million smartphone last year in the fourth quarter alone. Samsung’s initial reports were around the same numbers as well but later on confirmed to be about 75.1 million units instead. That boost in sales at the end of the year also meant that Apple is above Microsoft in terms of smartphone sales this time around as well.
In total reports suggests that smartphone shipments in the 2014 actually grew 31% compared to the previous year and there could be a host of factors that are affecting the increase. It is interesting to note though that Apple and a few other players in the industry increased their shipment in the fourth quarter while bigger players like Samsung actually decreased their shipments when compared based on a year-on-year analysis.
