Apple Patents a Way to Create Full Glass Devices
According to the AppleInsider, Apple has patented a way to build gadgets with an all glass outer casings. This method is achieved by fusing pieces together for a flawless, smooth finishing look. What exactly are these glass devices for? The main aim according to patent documents is to hold the internals of an iOS device, tv or monitor.
The patent will essentially enable Apple to construct completely glass encased devices. This would really make any device Apple releases much more unique and of a higher standard compared to other corporations. The all glass structure is designed for maximum durability. By fusing pieces together, using a heavy single piece of block is avoided. Along with that, internal structures such as reinforcement points can be placed where the weaker points of the structure are. Basically, by doing an all glass casing, attention can be given to the finer details and minute engineering of a device.
Obviously, the glass device is not indestructible. It is susceptible to impact damage and may have other disadvantages. Apple likely may have just experimented with the technological part of this experiment. Just because the company has applied for patent rights, it doesn’t mean the device has to be made. It most probably will serve some useful purpose in future projects especially since Jony Ives was stated in documents to be one of the main investors in this project.
