Apple’s recently Worldwide Developers Conference which took place a few weeks back, had little to no love for Apple Maps, Apple’s Google Maps replacement. In fact, there were only small updates touting updated and better coverage in China. Later, we uncovered news of some problems behind the scenes at Apple being the main cause of this.
Developers on iOS 8, have uncovered some code in Apple’s iOS 8 which have an Apple Maps feature called “City Tours”. The feature allows users to flyover cities and have a quick tour of it. The Flyover feature shows 3D perspectives of buildings and physical features with incredible detail. It seems that only a few cities are currently available: Rome, Stockholm, Barcelona, New York, Paris, Glasgow, Cape Town, Bordeaux and the San Francisco bay.
It’s an amazing feature, one we’re sure the team behind Apple Maps has spent a lot of time behind. It’s unclear if this feature will make it to iOS 8 slated for release later this year in Fall.
