Last Friday, it was reported that prominent Apple journalist, John Gruber suggested that the Apple iWatch will be seeing a September launch. In a post highlighting the charging functionality of the Moto 360, the journalist said:
“It looks like Motorola’s designers tried to draw as much attention as they could to the 360’s stupid flat-tire display shape.
The only way this could get funnier would be if it doesn’t even ship until after Apple announces their wrist wearable thing next month. “
Many believed the comment made by Gruber as he has history of inside knowledge of Apple and with sources within the company, he has always been a reliable source of information. And if the iWatch was making its debut next month, we would have likely saw it be side by side the Apple iPhone 6.
However, Gruber’s claims contradicted the previous reports from sources such as Re/Code which was aiming for an October launch date for the gadget. With that said, we’re sad and a little annoyed to update you that Gruber was joking.
John Gruber has clarified that he made the statement as a joke and that he does not have any information on Apple’s release plans: “By the way, I have no idea whether Apple is planning wrist thing for September or October, just making a joke.”
Well Gruber, that joke was not funny. At all.
