In conjunction with World AIDS Day 2014, Apple has collaborated with Product (RED) to offer special apps for the (RED) section in the App Store. The section will contain about 25 apps which has exclusive content aimed to benefit the Global Fund to fight AIDS.
The tech giant is also donating a portion of its online sales and retail sales tomorrow, the 28th of November and on Monday, the 1st of December. The Apps for (RED) campaign began on November 24th and will end on the 7th of December. Tomorrow, Apple customers in America will get a special (RED) iTunes gift card if they purchase selected Apple products. A percentage of the each gift card will be donated to the Global Fund to fight AIDS.
“Apple is a proud supporter of (RED) because we believe the gift of life is the most important gift anyone can give,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “For eight years, our customers have been helping fight AIDS in Africa by funding life-saving treatments which are having a profoundly positive impact. This year we are launching our biggest fundraising push yet with the participation of Apple’s retail and online stores, and some of the brightest minds in the App Store are lending their talents to the effort as well.”
This is not the first time Apple and (Product) have teamed up. The parties have done so over the years. The Cupertino tech giant has released a number of (RED) devices and with every (RED) product bought, Apple donates a portion of the purchase price to the charity.
