I know we’re busy with IFA 2014 this week but let’s back track a little to Google I/O a few months ago. One of the most important announcements made was the Android One platform. It has been revealed that Micromax, Karbonn and Spice will be one of the first to launch products based on the platform in India this month.
The headsets from the three manufacturers are expected to be priced around Rs 700o Rs 10,000 (USD116 to USA166) with an extra Rs 6000 (USD100) for Android One original devices. Sources are saying that the increased price is due to the spec sheet of the gadgets that will go way above what we expect from Android One gadgets.
We’re looking for mid range devices this time around and reports are stating that the headsets will feature dual SIM slots, SDcard support, a 5 megapixel camera, quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, and a 1700-mAh battery. Look out for 4.3 to 4.5 inch screens and Android KitKat 4.4.4 when it comes to these three gadgets.
One of the best things about being part of the Android One platform is that the headsets are definitely receiving an Android L update! The platform basically enables OEMs to provide niche content to local markets while ensuring set standards are there for excellent customer experience and timely updates. The main purpose of Android One for Google is to break into the market of consumers who are looking for sub-$100 smartphones and of course, the tech typhoon wants to increase profit and market share in many emerging markets.
With the announcement made, Google has already released invites telling everyone “block your date for an exciting new announcement from Google.” The event is set to take place in India on the 15th of September 2014. We’re hoping the tech giant unveils the three headsets at this event!
