It seems Android L might just get its tasty name! We were all kind of disappointed when Google introduced the next version of Android as Android L. Our initial reaction? Where’s all the deliciousness?!
Not to worry, it seems that the upcoming Android release is pointing to Android LMP! The initials definitely stand for Lemon Meringue Pie unless there’s some other tasty dessert with those initials that we don’t know about.
The final build of Android is not available just yet so it’s no surprise that Google has yet to comment on the name. However, one of the documents that can serve as evidence to support the name is the WiFi certification for HTC’s upcoming tablet called Volantis. In the specs sheet, the firmware is listed as LMP as well.
Another proof in favour of the name Lemon Meringue Pie is the fact that when you search for the initials “lmp” on the Android Open Source Project repository, there are nine hits. One of them even has LMP on its subject heading. Nevertheless, keep in mind that this isn’t anything concrete since the previous build was referred to as Key Lime Pie in internal documents, but ended up being called KitKat.
We’re hoping this catchy name sticks!
