AMD goes soft(ware) with Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition
AMD has been on a roll these days with their brand new Ryzen line up of chipsets. Even their graphics arm, Radeon has started to make headlines again after a long hiatus from the market which is refreshing. Great hardware is not complete without a great user experience these days though. That is why AMD developed their software in-house to create a more holistic experience. Welcome to the Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition (that is a mouthful).
Created specifically for the Radeon series of GPU the Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition is a suite of software that either tunes your gaming experience, monitor their GPU performance, and link up with friends. All these without actually leaving your game. What is even better is that you can actually make full use of the software via AMD Link on your smartphone.
Apart from the AMD Link app you also get Radeon Overlay, and Radeon Software Core Technologies included with the Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition. Within the Radeon Software Core Technologies is also a suite of software like Radeon Chill, WattMan, Enhanced sync and ReLive. In this iteration though the Core Technologies are updated and much improved.
Games these days are made to be as immersive as ever. They draw you in and keep you there for hours on end without you even realising that it is taking up so much of your time. They do get annoying though when things like your screen brightness, contrasts, and colours are not right. Adjusting your PC performance on-the-fly could also be annoying when you are in-game. Most of the time you have to exit the game and enter the game again just to see if there are any differences in performance.
With Radeon Overlay these are things of the past. With Overlay you can access all the Radeon suite of software to adjust your gameplay on the fly without even leaving your game screen. You can access Radeon Chill even to ensure that you are not burning your CPU and GPU. Adjusting colours and performance through Frame Rate Target Control (FRTC), and FreeSync also does not require you to leave your game anymore. Even going live on streaming sites is made easy with access to ReLive.
AMD Link Mobile App
You cannot keep having performance numbers on top of your game screen at all times; that is just distracting. AMD Link Mobile App prevents you from just doing that. Available for free on Android or iOS the app is designed to complement the PC experience. The Link dashboard allows you to monitor what is going on with your Radeon ReLive, monitor your CPU and GPU performance, AMD news feed, and of course notify you when there is a new driver. All that in the name of optimising your gaming performance.
Radeon Software Core Technologies
The Radeon Software Core Technologies is probably the considered the heart of Radeon suite of software services. It is also technically a software suite on its own. In this Adrenalin Edition though you get an expanded performance out of the software with its suite of optimisation options too.
Making up the Radeon Software Core Technologies are Radeon ReLive, Radeon Chill, and Radeon Wattman.
Of course community engagement is important when you live on it. Radeon ReLive is the essential tool for game streamers. This tool allows chat integration that allows game streamers to engage their communities in any social media platform they can think of.
So you do not stream; fine. You are still a serious gamer though right? Of course you are. With any gaming rig, one of the biggest, if not the biggest issue is heat management. Running a fast and power rig also means more heat management issues. Radeon Chill keeps your life easy when it coes to heat monitoring on-the-fly. It also now supports Vulkan API based games alongside Direct X9, 10, 11, and 12 support. Monitoring your heat has never been easier.
Another thing you have to monitor when you play games is power management. Why is that important, you ask? Well, different games run on different power management profile and managing power for each game can be a bit of a problem when you rely solely on the game itself to adjust itself. To optimise the gameplay then you can use Wattman (even in-game) to change your power management profiles and fine tune them to suit each game. You can even share the power management profiles with your friends via social media or other avenues.
On top of all of these Software Core Tehnologies apps, AMD also includes their Enhanced Sync technology into the fray. This embedded software ensures that you get tear-free and stutter free gaming experience on virtually any games. It technically allows for a low latency gaming experience for full immersion. With Vulkan API support, it is even more versatile.
AMD’s Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition is readily available for download here. It is a free software suite, but you would have to be an AMD Radeon user obviously to harness the full potential of the technology (we have not tried it with NVidia hardware though). Press release after the break.
