Smartphone users have their way in customizing their smartphones with elegant and accessible 3rd-party launchers. One of the 3rd-party launchers we are going to review is the remarkable Action Launcher. Action Launcher is a very trendy 3rd-party launcher by Chris Lacy who managed to have at least more than 1,000,000 downloads. Almost over 15,000 reviews for this great home-screen launcher and a 4.3 star rating in Google Play Store. Not only that, the Pro version was purchased almost 100,ooo times.
Over a week ago, Chris Lacy announced a new and improved version of Action Launcher that will be out in in Play Store – designated name “Action Launcher 3”. Although this wonderful launcher is a complete re-write and not just an update, it’s also a support addition for the Material Design.
Looking back at its popularity of the current version, Action Launcher 3 is going to be as prominent as its predecessor. However, this could be a complication for some users. The Action Launcher 3 will be in a paid version. This is how it works; the Pro version for Action Launcher 2 only works for its current version and it doesn’t apply to Action Launcher 3. So for those who want to use the Action Launcher 3, they will have to pay for the app via IAP.
The logic to this is because the developer Chris Lacy has poured a lot of sweat into re-writing the launcher. And the fund he received from the sales of Action Launcher 2 Pro version is not enough for him to continue making a living thus improving his masterpiece. By charging for the Action Launcher 3, Chris Lacy means to ensure that his product will continue to grow. And by the looks of it, users who use Action Launcher do not seem upset about it but they are keen on waiting for the latest version.
The Action Launcher 2 will be as functional as before as its Pro version. And users will still get what they paid for. Since Action Launcher 3 is a complete re-write, Chris Lacy have the option to release the new launcher under a new name. But from the marketing view, it’s clearly better to build the Action Launcher branding.
Users who have purchased the Pro version for Action Launcher 2 might be a little upset to hear about the new version that is coming out. However, Chris Lacy is now letting users to refund what ever they have purchased within the last 30 days. In order to get the refund, users will have to wait for the released of the app and then buy Action Launcher 3 Plus in-app-purchase. After doing so, users can send Chris Lacy an email as mentioned in the announcement post.
App developers have put their heart into creating apps for users needs and all we can do is support the independent app developers for what they have given us. By looking at it, Action Launcher users seems happy with their purchases and keen for the arrival of the latest version. Let us know what do you think about the latest version of Action Launcher.
