Synology recently held its 2025 press event in Malaysia, outlining a strategy focused on “Fostering Cyber Resilience” in an increasingly complex IT landscape. Against the backdrop of a 130% growth in enterprise data needs over the last five years and a 400% surge in its own enterprise segment (led by the government sector), the company unveiled a major expansion of its hardware and software solutions.

While modern IT has shifted to complex hybrid-cloud environments with zero-trust policies and immutable backups, Synology is moving to meet these demands with new enterprise-grade offerings in high-performance storage, data protection, business productivity, and surveillance.
New Storage Tiers: PAS and GS Series for Mission-Critical Workloads
For years, Synology’s high-end rack models have been the go-to for Tier 2, Tier 3, and archive workloads—think main file servers, secondary VM storage, and long-term data retention. However, the company is now making an aggressive push into the high-performance Tier 0 and Tier 1 space, targeting mission-critical databases, VDI, AI/ML, and real-time analytics .
To do this, Synology is introducing two new, distinct storage families:
- GS Series: A new line of scale-out file and object storage designed to handle large-scale analytics, rich media, and data lakes. The GS Series is slated for release in 2026.
- PAS Series: This is the new flagship for “Primary Storage for mission-critical workloads”. Leading this family is the PAS7700, Synology’s first-ever all-NVMe solution.
The PAS7700 is built on an end-to-end NVMe architecture, utilising U.3 NVMe SSDs and supporting NVMe over Fabrics (NVMe-oF) protocols like NVMe-TCP and RDMA. This architecture eliminates traditional storage bottlenecks by allowing data to move directly from the network to the SSDs.
What this means in practice is blistering performance. Synology is touting figures of 2 million 4K random read IOPS, 30 GB/s in sequential reads, and sub-1-millisecond latency, all fed by 4x100GbE or 12x25GbE connectivity. This is the kind of performance enterprises need for heavy transactional databases and VDI environments.
ActiveProtect: A Purpose-Built Appliance for Cyber Recovery
Moving from performance to protection, Synology addressed the modern challenge of cyber recovery. The old “regular backup” model is no longer enough. The new standard requires backups that are isolated, visible, and auditable .
Synology’s answer is the new ActiveProtect series. This is not just software on a NAS; it’s a “Purposed-Built Backup Appliance” from a single vendor, designed to lower the total cost of ownership (TCO). The platform is built on three pillars:
- Isolated: It employs air-gap mechanisms to prevent unauthorized access and protect backups from active ransomware attacks.
- Visible: It provides a single, unified interface to monitor all backup operations, simplifying the management of backup policies.
- Auditable: The system records and tracks all execution statuses and, crucially, monitors for anomalies in real-time, helping to identify a breach and ensure regulatory compliance.

The ActiveProtect line will launch with pre-configured hardware, including the DP320 (8TB), DP340 (24TB), and the high-capacity DP7000 series (up to 140TB).
Expanding Productivity with Private Unified Comms
Synology is also doubling down on its private cloud ecosystem. Building on the existing Synology Office (Docs, Spreadsheets, Slides) and MailPlus , the company is launching a “New Private Unified Communication Platform”.
The new suite includes Synology ChatPlus and Synology Meet. This move allows businesses to host their own secure, on-premise chat, video meetings, and collaboration in a single, unified interface . This is an enterprise-grade solution, with Synology claiming support for over 10,000 maximum users for ChatPlus and 7,000 maximum attendees for Meet.
This platform will also get smarter, with upcoming private AI integrations for Synology Office and MailPlus, including text generation, translation, and summarization, as well as AI-powered semantic search, OCR, and speech-to-text capabilities.
An End-to-End Smart Surveillance Solution
Finally, Synology is rounding out its four pillars by expanding its surveillance offerings. The goal is to create a complete, end-to-end solution, moving users from “traditional” (labor-intensive) surveillance to “smart” (AI-driven) systems
Joining the existing Synology cameras and Surveillance Station software are new Synology PoE Switches. The PS2600+ and PS1000+ are versatile switches designed specifically for efficient surveillance management, simplifying deployment.
The company also announced Synology C2 Surveillance, a new cloud platform. This creates a “One Goal, Two Platforms” hybrid strategy, allowing businesses to use their on-premise NVRs for primary recording while leveraging the cloud for “centralized surveillance management from anytime, anywhere”.
Pricing and Availability
Synology detailed the release windows for its new high-performance storage lines:
- PAS Series: Coming in the first half of 2026
- GS Series: Coming in 2026
The new Synology ChatPlus and Meet nd Synology C2 Surveillance 51 platforms are listed as “Coming Soon.”
Synology did not provide specific release dates for the ActiveProtect DP series appliances or the new PoE switches during the event. No official Malaysian pricing for any of the new hardware or services has been announced.
