Maxis Berhad has introduced Malaysia’s first Quantum Safe Networking (QSN) solution for government agencies and businesses, establishing itself as the first telecommunications provider in the country to offer this advanced security capability. Available through Maxis Business in partnership with Nokia, this managed service is a direct response to the escalating cybersecurity landscape, securing critical data against the existential threat posed by future quantum computing.
The core value of QSN is its ability to encrypt data directly at the optical layer. This low-level, hardware-based approach ensures that data is protected while in transit, mitigating the urgent threat known as “harvest now, decrypt later”. This is a scenario where data intercepted and stored by malicious actors today could be easily broken and deciphered by the processing power of a quantum computer in the near future.
Fortifying Critical Infrastructure with Future-Proof Security
Maxis is positioning QSN as an essential layer of defense for industries with strict data integrity and data sovereignty requirements. This includes critical sectors such as banking and financial services, healthcare, and the public sector.

The deployment of QSN adds a future-proof layer of security to Maxis’s existing fibre connectivity services, particularly those supporting data centre interconnects and high-capacity fibre links relied upon by enterprises and cloud providers. It complements Maxis’s existing Data Centre Connect solution, which delivers secure, private access to major cloud providers and data centres nationwide across various hybrid or multi-cloud environments.
The practical benefit is immediate peace of mind for digital transformation efforts. As Prateek Pashine, Chief Enterprise Business Officer of Maxis, noted, securing today’s data against tomorrow’s risks is a critical imperative, and enabling quantum-safe networking sets a new standard for protection. The partnership with Nokia combines their carrier-grade platforms with quantum-safe encryption across Maxis’s network, allowing businesses to future-proof their operations without compromising on the speed or reliability they depend on.
Leveraging Advanced Network Resilience
The QSN solution is built upon Maxis’s already robust network infrastructure, which is highly optimized for always-on operations and business continuity. Maxis has completed the fibreisation of all leading data centres in Malaysia, bringing them directly on-net to its national network.
To further protect mission-critical traffic, Maxis delivers up to three diverse fibre routes into these data centres, offering enterprises industry-leading resilience with service-level agreements of up to 99.999%. This robust infrastructure can now be enhanced with the quantum-safe encryption layer, ensuring that data in motion remains secure against both current threats and emerging quantum risks. Together, these capabilities provide a powerful platform that helps businesses minimise downtime, safeguard sensitive data, and operate with confidence.
The introduction of QSN was showcased to Minister of Digital, YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, at the Cyber Digital Services, Defence and Security Asia (CyberDSA) 2025 event, highlighting its importance to the national cybersecurity agenda. The new offering expands Maxis Business’s comprehensive suite of end-to-end solutions, ranging from core connectivity to digital solutions including IoT, cloud, and general cybersecurity.
