Adyen powers the future of financial services by launching embedded financial products

The product suite enables a potential revenue uplift of up to 70% for platforms and marketplaces

AMSTERDAM, Oct. 24, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Adyen (AMS: ADYEN), the global financial technology platform of choice for leading businesses, has broadened its offering by taking live two new embedded financial products – Capital and Accounts – which are now available to platform and marketplace businesses in the US and Europe via Adyen’s single integration. Research conducted in partnership with Boston Consulting Group finds that 64% of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are interested in financial services embedded within a platform. To capitalize on this banking-as-a-service opportunity, Adyen has developed an innovative suite of financial products comprising cash advances, business bank accounts, and card issuing. Together with embedded payments, these power the future of financial services by enabling platforms to deliver superior financial experiences to their SMB users.

“Platforms are at the center of a transforming financial services industry – and Adyen is primed to further drive this revolution,” said Adyen’s co-founder and CEO, Pieter van der Does. “Embedded finance is a logical next step following our embedded payments offering. From this vantage, we are excited to seize the opportunity that banking-as-a-service brings.”

Traditional financial services are stifled by legacy systems, reactive approaches, slow approvals, and lack of vertical knowledge. With Adyen’s single integration, platforms can meet this growing user demand by embedding financial services to consolidate SMBs business and financial operations under one roof.

Adyen’s embedded financial product suite offers a modular solution that brings unparalleled control and customization options for platform business. Bilibili Manhua’s most popular Chinese comic characters come to life on famous landmark digital screens

Chinese comics exhibit potential for establishing an important presence in world markets

SHANGHAI, Oct. 23, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — In September, a lineup of videos presenting Chinese comic characters appeared on the screens of NASDAQ and Tokyo Shibuya, drawing sizable attention. The winning lineup was selected from the just-concluded summer vacation event, the Chinese Comic Star Project, launched by Bilibili Manhua. The lineup included Heaven Official’s Blessing, Breaking Through the Clouds, The Saintess has a Showdown, Global Examination, BLISS ~ End of Gods, Please Bully Me, Miss Villainess!, Fatal Flower and Song of the Sky Pacers.

The Chinese Comic Star Project is a campaign, launched by Bilibili Manhua in 2021, to determine and highlight what fans of the platform consider the best among its content. The event is now in its second year. The one-month campaign debuted with the submission of more than 4,000 Chinese comic works and concluded with eight winners based on the results of voting by hundreds of thousands of the platform’s fans. The vast participation in the voting process demonstrates the love that fans have for the platform and its content.

In recent years, many popular Chinese comics have earned recognition on the international stage and started exerting influence on the broader worldwide market. The driver of this increase in popularity has been the launch of overseas marketing campaigns by Chinese comics platforms seeking to raise the visibility of their assets outside of the home market.

To cite an example, Heaven Official’s Blessing from Bilibili Manhua won a place among the top eight performers for two consecutive years as a result of the success of the Chinese Comic Star Project. Derivative products and authorized co-branding platforms vastly added to the influence and commercial value of the intellectual property (IP). In the 18 months since the launch of the English version, 8,288 visitors have rated the comic on Anime-Planet, garnering an impressive 4.4 out of 5. As of October 17, 2022, Heaven Official’s Blessing was ranking 102nd among all comics on the platform. On Facebook and other social media platforms, seven interest groups were spontaneously formed by comic fans, collectively adding up to some 100,000 followers. Readers from around the world recommended this comic, drawing attention to and spurring the purchase of its merchandise. Whether in terms of the quality of the content, or the influence of readers, the comic serves as just one example of the huge potential, artistically creative Chinese comics in overseas markets.

Bilibili Manhua is the largest legitimate comics distribution platform in China and holds the leading position both in terms of scale and of activity among ACG (Anime, Comics, Games) fans. The platform was launched in November 2018, and currently hosts nearly 100,000 comics. Bilibili Manhua operates and manages the whole industry chain, including original comic creation and the subsequent animation, film, games, vomics, peripheral derivatives, publications, and IP licensing. A spokesperson for the platform said, in the future, “on the basis of ensuring the management of superior comic content in our home market, we also look forward to their outstanding performance overseas.”

The Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, also known as Beijing E-Town, has been ramping up efforts to foster strategically important industrial clusters that represent the latest in the science and technology world. The goal is to build itself into a hub of high-tech industries with international influence.

Beijing E-Town saw its gross industrial output value reach close to 600 billion yuan ($86 billion) in 2021, ranking first in the city.

High-tech industries, represented by new-generation information technology, high-end automobiles and intelligent manufacturing, contributed more than 90 percent of the gross industrial output value.

At the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, an 8K ultrahigh-definition ground display system, the largest of its kind in the world, demonstrated the abilities of Chinese technology to viewers across the globe.

“The core technologies of the world’s largest display are in our hands,” said a representative of BOE Technology Group, China’s leading liquid crystal display panel maker based in Beijing E-Town.

In 2021, BOE’s LCD shipments for five major application scenarios, which were smartphones, tablets, laptops, monitors and televisions, all ranked first in the world.

“In the last 10 years, Beijing E-Town focused on critical strategic needs, accelerated research into key technologies and achieved major breakthroughs in cutting-edge technologies and industries of strategic importance,” said a Beijing E-Town official.

Beijing E-Town had been a cradle of innovative products and technologies for the past 10 years. As of the end of 2021, high-tech companies in Beijing E-Town delivered 96.7 percent of the area’s total industrial output value.

In 2021, the number of national-level “little giants” based in Beijing E-Town ranked first among more than 200 national economic development zones in the country. Beijing E-Town is turning into a magnet for high-end resources from across the globe, with local industries moving toward the higher end of the global value chain.

Four new production lines of German pharmaceutical company Bayer in Beijing E-Town are under construction. When put into operation, the fully automatic high-speed production lines, coupled with fully automatic logistics systems, are set to increase production capacity by 40 percent and help build a world-class manufacturing factory.

During the past decade, an increasing number of multinationals have chosen to set up their latest and most advanced production lines in Beijing E-Town. To date, Beijing E-Town was home to some 140 projects backed by more than 90 Fortune Global 500 companies.

Beijing E-Town is the first in the city to carry out the administrative reform that involves the entire administrative management chain ranging from approval to supervision and enforcement. The move has realized “one seal for examination and approval, and one team for law enforcement” and enabled further improvement in administration efficiency.

CGTN: How does China set tone for future of “One Country, Two Systems”?

BEIJING, Oct. 22, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The report delivered by Xi Jinping on Sunday at the opening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Beijing came at a pivotal point with China embarking on a new journey to build a modern socialist country in all respects.

Unveiling the blueprint for building a modern socialist China in all respects, Xi devoted an entire division of his report to highlighting the importance of “One Country, Two Systems.”

“This policy must be adhered to over the long term,” he vowed, eliminating doubts and misunderstandings about the future of “One Country, Two Systems.”

‘Best institutional arrangement’

The past decade has witnessed historic progress and changes in China’s drive to materialize the vision of “One Country, Two Systems” in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Macao Special Administrative Region.

The SARs’ legal systems and enforcement mechanisms for safeguarding national security have been established. The law on safeguarding national security in the HKSAR was enacted, while the region’s electoral system was also refined. Macao also started proceedings to amend its law on safeguarding national security.

In his report, Xi applauded “One Country, Two Systems” as great innovation of socialism with Chinese characteristics. “It has proven to be the best institutional arrangement for ensuring sustained prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macao after their return to the motherland.”

He affirmed the principle of “the people of Hong Kong administering Hong Kong and the people of Macao administering Macao” and a high level of autonomy for the two SARs.

Stressing Xi’s report served as a guideline for future actions of the SARs, John Lee, chief executive of the HKSAR, said he was encouraged by the report’s rich content on “One Country, Two Systems,” Hong Kong and Macao affairs as it reveals the great importance that the central government attaches to work related to the SARs and “One Country, Two Systems.”

Lee said the country has always been the strongest backing for the HKSAR in the past five years when the city has gone through the most severe test since its return to the motherland.

Chief Executive of the Macao SAR Ho Iat Seng also hailed that Xi’s report has given a clear direction to Macao for the successful practice of “One Country, Two Systems.”

He noted the report “illustrated that the central government places great importance in, and is cordial regarding its care for ‘One Country, Two Systems,'” and greatly bolstered Macao residents’ confidence in the city’s development.

Integrating into national development

In his report, Xi pledged to help the two regions resolve the deep-rooted and conflictual problems encountered in the course of their development, stressing efforts will be made to support Hong Kong and Macao in better integrating themselves into national overall development.

A key step for advancing “One Country, Two Systems” as well as a vital entry point for the two SARs to integrate themselves into the country’s overall development has been the development plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), which was planned and advanced by Xi himself.

The GBA is comprised of the two SARs, and nine cities in neighboring Guangdong Province. The total area is around 56,000 square kilometers, and covers around 6 percent of the Chinese population.

Over the past years, the GBA has swiftly turned plans into actions. A one-hour living circle has been basically formed within the GBA with the construction and operation of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link, and other cross-river channels connecting the Pearl (Zhujiang) River estuary’s eastern and western banks. The total mileage of rail lines in service in the GBA has reached nearly 2,500 kilometers.

In 2021, the number of GBA companies on the Fortune Global 500 list amounted to 25, compared with 17 in 2017, which also surpassed the New York Bay Area for the first time.

The GBA’s GDP hit 12.6 trillion yuan ($1.97 trillion) last year, 2.4 trillion yuan more than in 2017. With less than 1 percent of the country’s land mass, the GBA created 12 percent of the national GDP.

Zhao Chenxin, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission, on Monday told a news conference on the sidelines of the ongoing 20th CPC National Congress that China will ramp up efforts to make the GBA an exemplary model for high-quality development, focusing on promoting technological innovation, boosting coordinated industrial development, and improving people’s livelihoods.

CGTN: China to continue green transition toward carbon peak and neutrality

BEIJING, Oct. 22, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — China will actively implement its policies to work toward the goals of reaching peak carbon emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060, Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment Zhai Qing said Friday.

China made the pledges at the United Nations General Assembly in 2020.

“Climate change is a prominent global challenge and a matter of common interest for the international community. General Secretary Xi Jinping has repeatedly emphasized that addressing climate change is not something others ask us to do, but something we want to do,” Zhai said at a press conference on the sidelines of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

“As the world’s largest developing country, China will make the world’s biggest cut in carbon emission intensity, and move from carbon peak to carbon neutrality in the shortest time in history, which fully demonstrates the country’s sense of responsibility as a big country,” he noted.

To achieve the goals, China will accelerate the low-carbon transition in key areas and vigorously push the synergy of pollution reduction and carbon cut, Zhai said.

The country will also advance the national carbon market in a steady and orderly manner, speed up the research, promotion and application of low-carbon technologies, and promote low-carbon production and green lifestyle, he added.

Significant progress in green transition

China has made significant progress in low-carbon transition.

In the past decade, the country has maintained an average economic growth rate of 6.6 percent with an average annual energy consumption growth rate of only three percent, according to Zhai.

In 2020, China’s carbon emission intensity decreased by 48.4 percent compared with that in 2005, exceeding the target it had pledged to the international community, he pointed out.

In 2021, the carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP decreased by 34.4 percent compared with that in 2012.

In the same year, the share of coal use in its primary energy mix dropped to 56 percent from 68.5 percent in 2012 and 72.4 percent in 2005. Meanwhile, the proportion of non-fossil energy in its total energy consumption reached 16.6 percent.

In 2021, China’s installed capacity of renewable energy exceeded 1 billion kilowatts, with that of wind, solar, hydra and biomass energy all ranking the first in the world.

The country also witnessed the largest increase in forest resources and the largest area of afforestation in the world, leading the global greening effort, Zhai said.

China alone accounted for 25 percent of the global net increase in leaf area with only 6.6 percent of global vegetated area, according to a Boston University study tracking NASA satellites from 2000 to 2017, which was published in Nature Sustainability in 2019.

In addition, the country launched the world’s largest carbon market in terms of the amount of greenhouse gas emissions it covered, effectively giving play to the role of the market mechanism in controlling greenhouse gas emissions and promoting low-carbon transition.

Actively contributing to global climate governance

China has also been actively contributing to global climate governance, Zhai noted.

China upholds multilateralism and the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities, he said, adding that the country has promoted the signature, entry into force, as well as the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

The country has taken an active part in South-South cooperation on climate change. It has done its best to help other developing countries, especially small island countries, African countries, and the least-developed countries, to improve their climate response capacity to reduce the adverse impacts of climate change, said Zhai.

Besides, positive progress has been made in promoting the green development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Zhai said. Proposed by China in 2013, the BRI envisions trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient Silk Road routes.

China established an international coalition for the green development of the Belt and Road in 2019, which has worked to strengthen policy dialogues and joint research, and support the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, he said.

The coalition currently has more than 150 partners from over 40 countries.

Efforts have been made to improve the innovation and exchanges of green technologies and cultivate talent in environmental management.

“We have trained about 3,000 environmental management personnel, experts and scholars from more than 120 countries, building consensus and synergy for green development,” Zhai said.

Heading forward, China will work with all parties to actively participate in the global governance of climate change. It will promote a fair and rational global climate governance system for win-win results, continue to deepen South-South cooperation on climate change, and contribute China’s strength, wisdom and solutions to global climate change response, he said.

China.org.cn: What is the “Chinese path to modernization”?

BEIJING, Oct. 21, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — A news report by China.org.cn on the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China:

Lately, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (the Congress) has opened. This meeting is being convened at a critical time as China embarks on a new journey to build itself into a modern socialist country in all respects. One of the key takeaways is the proposal of advancing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization.

This is a key takeaway because it represents more than just a goal for China’s development in the new era; it clearly points out the path that China, the world’s most populous country, chooses to take towards modernization and national rejuvenation.

Firstly, Chinese modernization pursues not only “prosperity”, but also “common prosperity for all”. China’s rapid economic growth in the over 40 years of reform and opening-up has enabled the basic needs of the Chinese people to be largely met. After persistent hard work in the recent decade, close to 100 million poor rural residents have been lifted out of poverty; the issue of absolute poverty in China has been once and for all resolved, and the dream of building a moderately prosperous society has been achieved. The report to the Congress has once again highlighted the importance of advancing rural revitalization across the board; improving the system of income distribution, implementing the employment-first strategy, and improving the social security system including elderly care, medical care and housing, so as to substantially grow the middle-income group as a share of the total population, guarantee equitable access to basic public services, and ensure modern living standards of living in rural areas by 2035. China has included the pursuit of common prosperity for all in its journey of modernization.

Secondly, Chinese modernization is one of material and cultural-ethical advancement, of harmony between humanity and nature. China pursues significant increase in economic strength, scientific and technological strength, and comprehensive national strength, while stressing the importance of advancing the “Beautiful China” initiative, accelerating the transition to a model of green development, and working actively and prudently toward the goals of reaching peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality. China also underscores the improvement and development of whole-process people’s democracy, enrichment of the people’s cultural lives and so on. The path China chooses is one of more comprehensive, sustainable and high-quality development.

What’s more, China does not achieve modernization through colonization or invasion, nor will it seek hegemony or expansion in the future. Chinese modernization is one of peaceful development. In my opinion, the core lies in “openness”, “cooperation” and “sharing”. China keeps its door open, builds the “Belt and Road” with other countries, and strives to promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation; it is committed to supporting and assisting other developing countries in accelerating development, and to building a human community with a shared future. The modernization process of China is also part of the journey of humanity’s common progress and development.

For centuries, countries all around the world have been exploring and striving for modernization. Building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects and realizing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is a wish of the Chinese people. China’s path to modernization featuring common prosperity and all-round, coordinated and peaceful development creates a new form of human advancement, which will contribute to building an even better world.

TCLE (01070.HK) Sells 16.62 Million Smart Screens Globally in the First Three Quarters of 2022

With Remarkable Results in the Third Quarter Showing 46.6% YoY Growth in the PRC Market

HONG KONG, Oct. 21, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — TCL Electronics Holdings Limited (“TCL Electronics” or the “Company“, 01070.HK) announced today its global sales volume for the first three quarters of 2022. Global sales volume of TCL smart screens reached 16.62 million sets, of which 6.47 million sets were sold in the third quarter, a significant increase of 11.8% year-on-year. With the “TCL and FFalcon” dual brand strategy carried out, a series of newly launched high-end and large-screen TCL smart screens were popular among consumers. Driven by the optimisation of distribution channel structure and the upgrade of product mix, sales volume in the domestic market increased rapidly. In 2022 Q3, sales volume of TCL smart screens in the PRC market rose by 46.6% year-on-year.

By adhering to the strategy of “Value Led by Brand with Relative Cost Advantage”, TCL Electronics has achieved remarkable results in its product mix upgrades. In the first three quarters of 2022, sales volume of the Company’s large-sized smart screens grew significantly. The sales volume of smart screens of 65 inches and above increased by 63.6% year-on-year, with its proportion of the overall sales volume increasing by 6.9 percentage points year-on-year to 17.1%. The overall average size of TCL smart screens sold in the market increased by 2.6 inches year-on-year to 47.4 inches. TCL Electronics has entered a “Golden Age of Development” for its large-sized smart screens.

At the same time, TCL Electronics took the lead in the field of Mini LED technology. With this first-mover advantage, the Company has built a moat around itself in the TV industry. In the first three quarters of 2022, the sales volume of TCL Mini LED smart screens achieved a growth of 12.4% year-on-year, and significantly up by 20.1% year-on-year in the third quarter. TCL Mini LED smart screens are not only well received by consumers but also widely recognized for its industry leadership by industry associations. In August this year, TCL was awarded by the Expert Imaging and Sound Association (“EISA”) in the “PREMIUM MINI LED TV 2022-2023” category for its high quality Mini LED 4K TV 65C835. TCL Electronics continued to break new ground and successfully launch the 98-inch TCL Q10G Mini LED TV in September with leading backlight, brightness and light control technologies, allowing consumers to have immersive audio and visual experiences.

In the PRC market, TCL smart screens recorded a 15.9% year-on-year increase in sales volume in the first three quarters. Large-sized products have become a firm favorite with customers, and the trend towards larger screens is particularly obvious in the PRC market. In the first three quarters of 2022, the sales volume of TCL 65 inches and above smart screens accounted for 39.3% in the PRC market, up by 14.3 percentage points year-on-year, while the sales volume of TCL 75 inches and above smart screens accounted for 18.1%, up by 11.9 percentage points year-on-year. The average size of TCL smart screens sold in the PRC market increased from 52.0 inches to 55.7 inches, a significant increase of 3.7 inches year-on-year.

In the international markets, terminal demand of some consumer markets was affected by the factors such as the pandemic, inflation and geopolitical conflicts. In the first three quarters of 2022, the overall sales volume of TCL smart screens in the international markets went down slightly due to the industry-wide impact. However, its sales volume has rebounded in the third quarter, recording a year-over-year increase of 3.4% and a quarter-on-quarter increase of 22.9%. In terms of regional sales performance of TCL smart screens in the first three quarters, emerging markets[1] registered a growth of 14.5% year-on-year, of which sales volume in Australia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia increased by 29.3%, 48.8%, 60.7% and 71.0%, respectively, and the market share of TCL smart screens continued to rank first in Australia and Pakistan[2]. On the whole, the sales volume of TCL smart screens in the European markets was flat year-on-year, but the momentum remained strong in Poland and in the UK, with a year-on-year growth of 13.9% and 108.4%, respectively. North American markets recorded decline due to the previously excessive demand caused by the pandemic, however, the market share of TCL smart screens by sales volume in the United States remained firmly in its third place[3].

In addition to smart screens, TCL Electronics sold 13.62 million sets in total of small and medium-sized displays in the first three quarters of 2022. The TCL NXTPAPER 10s smart tablet also won the “TABLET INNOVATION 2022-2023” award from EISA. This was also the first time for TCL to received such EISA Award for its tablet innovation.

With continued efforts to leverage its brand influence and channel advantages and to implement its all-category strategy, the distribution sales volume of the Company’s all-category products reached 7.24 million sets in the first three quarters this year, up by 15.8% year-on-year, with the sales volume of air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines increasing by 17.9%, 14.7% and 10.7% year-on-year, respectively. TCL Electronics has always viewed technology as its driving force for development. TCL Home Appliances and Jiangnan University reached a strategic cooperation in scientific research and jointly built a laboratory in August this year with a focus on innovative technologies for food preservation. By developing magnetic refrigeration technology and establishing a database for experimental results, TCL Electronics aims to use smart preservation technologies to produce world-class refrigerators for customers who crave for a full range of absolutely fresh and nutritious food.

In the future, the Company will continue to forge ahead with the strategy of “Value Led by Brand with Relative Cost Advantage”. It will further pursue globalization and technological transformation in the mid to high-end market, actively explore innovative reforms and vigorously expand its new track of all-category layout of “intelligent IoT ecosystem” to provide global users with all-scenario smart and healthy living services. TCL Electronics is striving to develop itself into a world-leading enterprise of smart devices.

Customize Your Ad Experience with Google’s My Ads Center

Google is taking steps to enhance privacy protections and personalisation when it comes to the ad experience on their platforms. Yes – it’s not everyday that you see these two things in the same sentence but Google is trying to make them go hand in hand with their new My Ads Center.

The new My Ads Center will be rolling out to users around the world today. With Google’s new My Ads Center, users will be given more control of their ads experience on Google platforms than ever before. In fact, Google is providing the option to remove ad personalisations all together. However, they note that this option will not turn off ads, it will just serve less relevant ads.

  • MyAdCenter Hub Home 02
  • MyAdCenter Hub Customization Sensitive 01
  • MyAdCenter Hub Customization Sensitive 02
  • MyAdCenter Hub Privacy Areas
  • MyAdCenter Hub Privacy Web App

So, how does My Ads Center affect user experience moving forward? It’s pretty simple, you will see ads that are relevant to you on your terms. At least that’s what Google is working towards. You will be able to remove ad categories that are irrelevant to you or that can potentially be emotional triggers. This includes categories like child bearing, weight loss and more. This also applies to brands. You’ll be able to remove brands that you don’t want to engage with.

My Ads Center also allows you to decouple your experience on Search, YouTube and more. This allows you essentially remove a dimension of information that Google’s algorithm uses to personalise your ads. Let’s say you don’t want YouTube to feed into your ad personalisations, you will be able to simply remove your YouTube History from your personalisation. This also applies to categories like relationship status and more.

Users will be able to access My Ads Center in the Ads Settings menu in their Google account. Inside, you will have multiple options to customise your experience including ad categories, brands and your recent ads. Using these, you will be able to start customising your ads across all of Google’s platforms.

Guaranteeing Privacy with Personalisation

Google is reiterating its commitment to protecting user privacy. The company is reiterating that they “follow a set of core privacy principles that guide what information we do and don’t collect. We never sell your personal information to anyone, and we never use the content you store in apps like Gmail, Photos and Drive for ads purposes. And we never use sensitive information to personalize ads — like health, race, religion or sexual orientation.

The new My Ads Center is, according to Google, a step further in fulfilling its commitments to protecting user privacy. It is – to date – one of the most transparent experiences when it comes to showing users what data are being collected and how it is being used; at least when it comes to ads.
