The AutoSens Awards have become one of the industry’s leading events for the ADAS and autonomous vehicle technology community, recognizing the most innovative companies and products leading the global autonomous driving industry. StradVision’s Gold Award selection was made during this year’s award ceremony held on September 13. The company’s SVNet was recognized for the second year in a row regarding its deep learning-based camera perception software that continues to mature within the automotive space and accelerate the ADAS and autonomous driving sector forward. StradVision’s Dean Kim (Vice President of Business Development) and Andreas vom Felde (General Manager & Head of Sales Region Europe) were in event attendance to accept the award.

“This high recognition by AutoSens for the second year is a tremendous honor for our company,” said Junhwan Kim, CEO of StradVision. “Our goals have been very ambitious for business growth and innovation, and this year has brought many milestone moments for us. AutoSens’ Gold Award for our SVNet perception software will continue our motivation as we pursue more ways to advance autonomous driving and ADAS solutions for the global community.”

“We’ve experienced exponential business growth and recognition from the global community over the past year,” said Dean Kim, StradVision’s Vice President of Business Development. “Seeing our SVNet software selected once again by AutoSens this year is incredible and we believe further spotlights the potential our perception solutions can bring for OEMs and Tier-1s in the automotive industry worldwide.”

StradVision’s SVNet is state-of-the-art software that powers the perception technology behind ADAS and autonomous vehicles, enabling external vehicle perception via 14+ platforms across Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Renesas, NVIDIA and other chipset makers to accurately and safely detect and recognize objects (even in poor lighting or harsh weather conditions), such as other vehicles, lanes, pedestrians, animals, free space, traffic signs, and lights.  SVNet was the first network to run deep learning-based object detection software on TDA2x, R-car V3H, V3M, and H3, and now also provides deep neural network across Snapdragon Ride, Orin, Jacinto, R-car series and Ambarella CV series. Other StradVision products include SVNet Tools, which removes the need to have a large team spending hundreds of hours correcting objects with the risk of human error.

The company is accelerating the advent of fully autonomous vehicles by making ADAS features available at a fraction of the market cost compared with competitors. Where Should You Get Your Apple iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro From?

We know that the Apple iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro starts at MYR 4,199 and MYR 5,299 respectively. While Apple maintained the same US$ pricing for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models, prices in Malaysia has gone up a little thanks to some shifts in currency exchange rates. The price tag, for Malaysia at least, is still a little hefty if you want to get the device directly from Apple.

U Mobile iP14
Source: U Mobile

Pre-orders for Malaysia have started during the weekends (16th of September 2022 to be exact). Thankfully, you do not have to place your pre-orders specifically with Apple directly. You can do it with all the major carriers in Malaysia at this point, including U Mobile. With these network providers too, you can get your iPhone with their existing postpaid plan, so rather than paying for your iPhone in a single hefty payment, you can space out your payment together with your phone plan over a year to two years.

Maxis iP14
Source: Maxis

Maxis, Celcom, Digi, and even U Mobile has revealed their most anticipated phone plans, their postpaid plans for the upcoming Apple iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models. The most affordable way to own an Apple iPhone 14 at this point, at least at the time of writing, is via engaging on Maxis’ Postpaid Share 48 plan. There is a small caveat here though, the Share 48 plan is technically dependent on another full Postpaid plan like the Postpaid 128. While it only gives you 30GB in monthly data quota, sharing the line with another principal line owner also allows you to share data with the principal line. On the device end, you are getting your basic Apple iPhone 14 with 128GB of storage for only MYR 116 every month. That totals to MYR 167 on a monthly basis. Once you go for the Maxis Postpaid 128 plan though, you are paying MYR 221 every month.

Digi iP14
Source: Digi

While the Maxis Postpaid 128 plan with the iPhone 14 seems a little pricey compared to the Postpaid Share 48 plan, it is still more affordable than anything else you can find in the market at this time. The next best thing for the most basic iPhone 14 is from Digi and it totals up to MYR 240 a month. The only other network providers that allows you to own an Apple iPhone 14 for below MYR 300 is U Mobile and Celcom with their MYR 98/month plan with iPhone that will set you back a total of MYR 247 a month. These prices are exclusive of SST though, so you want to keep that in mind.

Celcom iP14
Source: Celcom

Maxis’ Postpaid Share 48 and Postpaid 128 plans still gives you access to the highest end Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max with 1TB storage. Of course, the price of the iPhone itself will shoot up to MYR 230 every month, that is on top of the MYR 48/month you pay for your data plan. That will only total up to MYR 278 every month though, still more affordable than most of the iPhone plans you can find anywhere. Of course, the price goes up to MYR 324 the moment you go for the Maxis Postpaid 128 plan. For Celcom and Digi, you are required to have their more premium Celcom MEGA 158 (worth MYR 158/month) and Digi Postpaid 120 (worth MYR 120/month) to get your hands on Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro models.

You can refer to all the installment and phone plans from Maxis, Celcom, Digi, and U Mobile on their respective websites.

Fujifilm Releases the new X-H2 with 40.2MP on Tap and up to 8K 30fps Internal Recording

When you think high-end cameras, you usually think full-frame sensors. In the case of a Fujifilm, full frame is not an option. You either go for the compact APS-C format, or medium format form factor.

To be fair, Fujifilm has been championing the APS-C form factor for a few reasons. While you get a smaller sensor, you are not losing that much from full-frame sensors in terms of image quality and detail. Of course, image quality and clarity are also affected by the lenses, so Fujifilm’s FUJINON lenses are made to the highest standards. The smaller sensor also allows Fujifilm to make their cameras more compact than regular full-frame sensor cameras. At the same time, APS-C sensors can naturally capture videos at super 35 format without odd crops.

In the modern era of photography as well, they make some of the world’s most advanced APS-C mirrorless cameras. With the Fujifilm X-H2, they have just redefined what a mirrorless APS-C can do. Yes, it is technically a more advanced camera even compared to the X-H2S.

The headline figure is impressive. There is 40.2-Megapixel on tap from a sensor smaller than anything you can get from Sony’s α7 series. While there are cameras out there with higher Megapixel count, you also want to keep in mind that APS-C sensors hardly fit more than 24-Megapixel. Having any more pixel on the sensors also means shrinking the pixels to sizes never seen. Then again, Sony crammed more than 50-Megapixel into their full frame sensor, something that was thought to be impossible.

Source: Fujifilm

The larger sensor comes with Fujifilm’s proven X-Processor 5, the same one found in their X-H2S flagship shooter. The X-Processor 5 is a potent processor not just for still imaging though. It is also a powerful processor for video recordings. It allows the X-H2 to fully take advantage of the higher pixel count in the form of 8K video recording at up to 30 fps. It is capable of recording at up to 4:2:2 10-bit colours at 8K resolution too for up to 160 minutes, making it an even more impressive piece of kit. All of this is done internally too, so there is no need to get an external capture device.

On top of ProRes 422 format at 10-bit colour, you can push the Fujifilm X-H2 to shoot videos at 12-bit RAW with compatible HDMI recording devices. With an Atomos and Blackmagic Design’s recorders, you can even record at Apple ProRes RAW and Blackmagic RAW formats at up to 8K and 30fps. For more dynamic range, the X-H2 can record videos at F-Log2 that offers up to 13+ stops for even more details in your videos.

In terms of shooting stills, you can get the camera to shoot from as low as ISO125 and at a maximum shutter speed of 1/180000 seconds with electronic shutters for great photos in ultra-bright conditions. With up to 20 frame per second in high-speed shutter mode, shooting action and sports under bright lights becomes a breeze with the Fujifilm X-H2.

If you think that this is just a regular camera for enthusiasts with no place in the studio, you might want ot think again. The X-H2 can function and capture high-resolution stills like a medium format camera with up to 160-Megapixel in its resulting image. They call is the Pixel Shift Multi-Shot function that works with the 5-axis built in stabilisation mechanism (IBIS) shifts the image sensor with high precision and shoots multiple images automatically to create a high-resolution image that can be used in a commercial context.

Fujifilm did not disclose the number of autofocus points featured on the X-H2. They claim that the new camera packs more autofocus points than before for more precise and faster autofocusing speeds in AF-S mode. In AF-C mode, the camera is supposed to ensure a more stable and accurate autofocus on the subject. At the same time, with Deep Learning technology that allows the camera to detect a wide range of subjects for photography, the camera accurately tracks different subjects to ensure that users have one less thing to worry about in their photographs.

A fast camera needs a fast storage system, especially when you are talking about taking 20 40.2-Megapixel in a single second. For that you have the option to go for a regular SDXC card with support for up to UHS-II or Video Speed Class V90 storage. You can also work with the current more widely accepted CFexpress Type B cards that allows a more seamless video workflow too at 8K resolutions.

The Fujifilm X-H2 is expected to be available late into September 2022. You might see it in Malaysia early in October 2022 instead though. There are no colour options here, just the regular black, as with any other high-end camera available in the market today. The camera body will set you back US$ 1,999 (MYR 9,086*) when it is available. For more information on the Fujifilm X-H2, you can refer to their website.

Global Times: SCO expands membership and intl appeal as President Xi outlines priorities of solidarity, shared benefits

BEIJING, Sept. 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Chinese President Xi Jinping and other leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states on Friday made fruitful achievements by signing the Samarkand Declaration and a raft of documents and statements for not only regional countries but also the international community, showing the world the organization’s and regional countries’ joint pursuit of stability and development amid a complicated global geopolitical situation.

The prospering organization is becoming a stronger force in upholding international order by appealing to more countries to join in, and playing a more important role on the global economic stage, such as serving as a stabilizing force of international energy and food markets. The region is working closely in doubling down on efforts in fighting terrorism in this region. The SCO represents an ideal international relationship that countries have long desired, said experts.

President Xi on Friday attended the restricted session of the 22nd meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO. While delivering a keynote speech, he pointed out that since its founding more than 20 years ago, the SCO has upheld the Shanghai Spirit and succeeded in exploring a new path for the development of international organizations.

Xi also outlined several priorities going forward for the SCO state members, including staying committed to the Shanghai Spirit and enhancing solidarity and cooperation, maintaining strategic independence and safeguarding regional stability, pursuing inclusiveness and shared benefits in promoting development cooperation, and advancing the SCO expansion process and strengthening SCO institutions.

Zhu Yongbiao, executive director of the Research Center for the Belt and Road and director of the Center for Afghanistan Studies at Lanzhou University, told the Global Times on Friday that the fruitful contents of the Samarkand Declaration showed that the SCO is marching toward becoming a more international organization from a regional organization, while its membership expands along with the member states’ issues of interest.

The Shanghai Spirit upheld by the SCO members could also be applied in dealing with international issues, Zhu said.

On Friday, SCO member states signed the Samarkand Declaration and issued statements on safeguarding global food security and energy security, addressing climate change, and maintaining a secure, stable and diversified supply chain.

Besides traditional regional security and development cooperation, the Samarkand Declaration also contained various international issues such as concern over unilateral protectionist actions that undermine the multilateral trading system. It also demonstrated that the SCO has become more mature and contributed more to the international governance system and improvement of the global order, Zhu said.

Calling for joint efforts to counter terrorism is an important part of the declaration. It noted that based on each country’s laws and coordination, state members are working to form common principles and stances on creating a unified list of banning terrorist, separatist and extremist activities.

The upgrading of various anti-terrorist institutions to a comprehensive security threat center as well as joint statements on issues including food security and climate change are a natural expansion after 20 years of the organization’s development, and is also a necessary move amid new security challenges facing the region, Zhu said.

In addition to stressing joint efforts on countering terrorism, the Samarkand Declaration has also expressed member states’ concerns over the security of outer space and other controversial fields.

“Member states stand for keeping outer space free from weapons of any kind and state the major importance of the unfailing implementation of the existing legal framework envisaging only the peaceful use of outer space,” the document says.

The SCO’s proposals on international issues have greatly boosted the UN’s significance and inclusiveness, as many international mechanisms represent the will of developed countries but do not give full consideration to developing countries, according to Zhu.

Growing bigger with a better future

One of the most important achievements reached in Samarkand is the expansion of member states. The SCO was founded with six members in 2001 and has since expanded to eight, in addition to having four observer states and six dialogue partners. On Friday, a memorandum of obligations on Iran’s SCO membership was signed, and the SCO members began a process to admit Belarus to the SCO.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt will formally become SCO dialogue partners with the signing of relevant documents, and negotiations will be held on granting Bahrain, the Maldives and other states’ the status of dialogue partner.

Chinese analysts said that more countries are expected to apply to become full members of the SCO due to its growing attraction.

The attraction of SCO is that it helps member states safeguard their independence and sovereignty, provides them with broader space for cooperation, and enhances their international voice and influence. It also helps members effectively cope with changes in the international and regional situations, hedge external pressure and respond to security threats, and resolve differences through dialogue and consultation, Zhao Huirong, an Eastern European studies expert from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times on Friday.

Zhao said China and Russia, as founding members and permanent members of the UN Security Council, have an important leading role in the development of the SCO, and the two countries have common interests in promoting peace and development in the region, and putting forward many initiatives. The two countries have established a high level of strategic partnership of coordination, which to a large extent guarantees the stable development of the SCO, Zhao said.

SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming told media recently that many other countries have also expressed the hope that they can become members, observer states or dialogue partners.

The Shanghai Spirit, which features mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for diverse civilizations, and pursuit of common development, is increasingly important in the current international environment amid hegemony and small cliques, and more countries that prefer multilateralism and peaceful development are attracted by the SCO as the organization can maintain unity and solve stability and development issues in the region, Yang Jin, an associate research fellow at the Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times.

Zhou Rong, a senior researcher at the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies of the Renmin University of China, said that the SCO has evolved from an organization mainly focusing on border safety cooperation to incorporating nations from a wider geographical context.

“It will become an organization that represents the emerging nations, which will play a pivotal role in safeguarding world stability and peace,” Zhou said.

At the summit, leaders of the SCO member states signed the Samarkand Declaration, expressing their unanimous attitude of ruling out bloc, ideologically charged, and confrontational approaches to current international and regional development issues, and reaffirming the importance of promoting cooperation in the development of international relations of a new kind in the spirit of mutual respect, equality and mutually beneficial cooperation, as well as in building a community with a shared future for mankind. In this process, China’s role is evident to all. The Global Development Initiative (GDI) and Global Security Initiative (GSI) put forward by the Chinese leader were a response to the concerns of regional countries and have become an increasingly broad and firm consensus in the international community.

In just three days from Wednesday to Friday, in addition to attending the SCO summit, President Xi also paid state visits to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, met with leaders of a number of countries including Russia, and participated in the sixth meeting of heads of state of China, Russia and Mongolia. He also facilitated several major cooperation projects and signed a series of agreements on several projects and bilateral cooperation documents. This most significant diplomatic event for the Chinese head of state on the eve of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was a complete success.

The latest head-of-state diplomacy brought the destinies of China and Central Asia closer together. In 2013, during his visit to Central Asia, President Xi for the first time proposed the initiative to jointly build the Silk Road Economic Belt. Nine years later, as he revisited the region, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has already yielded fruitful results in Central Asia: The “SCO Express Line” of the “Qilu” Eurasian freight train was launched; the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was accelerated, and the longest tunnel in Central Asia on the Angren-Pap railway line in Uzbekistan opened. These are visible and tangible achievements.

The initiative put forward by China, with the joint efforts of many participating countries, has been effectively transformed into the improvement of infrastructure along the BRI and the expansion and deepening of bilateral and multilateral mutually beneficial cooperation, bringing benefits to a large number of ordinary people. This is a real case of building a community with a shared future for mankind. The warm welcome the Central Asian countries gave to President Xi reflects the high recognition of China’s diplomacy and the sincere expectation for the further development of relations with China.

Central Asia, with its unbalanced development, weak foundation, and complex ethnic and religious relations, is a region at high risk of “color revolutions” and social and political unrest. In the last few years, China has brought hopeful changes to this region, and the SCO has also, to a certain extent, prevented the contradictions and differences from evolving into division and confrontation. Under the framework of the SCO, all countries have worked together to embark on a new path of “pursuing dialogue instead of confrontation, and building partnerships instead of alliances.” They have firmly supported each other on issues concerning each other’s core interests and major concerns, injecting positivity and creating vitality in maintaining peace and development in the Eurasian continent.

Needless to say, peace and development are still the themes of the times, but it also encounters severe challenges. The world is neither peaceful nor tranquil. No matter where the Chinese leader goes, the emphasis is on a community with a shared future for mankind, the GDI, the GSI, and the BRI. He focuses on development and cooperation, underlining common values, interests, development and security. This represents a new direction, concept, and form of civilization in a world of change and disorder. This is not only something China talks about, but it also has been taking action in this regard, and it is one of the staunchest practitioners of multilateralism. It is hard to imagine what the world would be like without the perseverance of a responsible major country like China for peace and development.

The more turbulent the world is, the more it needs the strength to stabilize people’s hearts. Amid major changes unseen in a century in which “gray rhinos” and “black swans” are emerging in an endless stream, China itself represents a kind of stability. Under the guidance of the head-of-state diplomacy, it continues to weather storms. President Xi’s trip to Central Asia has global significance. It brings confidence and hope to the region amid crises and changes, and will continue to pool forces to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
