Meet the 20TB 2.5-Inch ‘SCALAR-20T’

Novachips Launches Largest-capacity MLC SSD to Date

SEOUL, South Korea, April 14, 2021 — Novachips Co., Ltd., an innovator in flash storage solutions, today announced that it has started shipping a newcomer in its SCALAR Series of high-capacity SSDs. The new entrant, SCALAR-20T, is a 2.5-inch SATA MLC (Multi-Level Cell) 20TB SSD that is entirely based on in-house hardware and firmware.

SCALAR-20T utilizes Novachips’ NVS3800 controller, and no third-party components — including JBOD and RAID component chips — are built into the device.

Since launching the world’s first 2.5-inch SATA and NVMe MLC 8TB in 2015, Novachips has consistently broken new ground in the massive capacity flash storage arena.

The standard bus topology interface between SSD controllers and NAND flash memory has proven a limiting factor in flash storage capacity innovation. Novachips has resolved this structural problem by using a unique point-to-point ring topology. This technology has helped Novachips build its most recent, 20TB capacity SSD, without compromising on performance or reliability from channel noise over its guaranteed lifetime.

SCALAR-20T is available in two options.

  • C-grade is recommended for commercial applications such as professional video editing and recording, mobile workstations, external portable USB storage or enterprise server storage.
  • I-grade is designed for industrial applications such as rugged recording systems, unmanned vehicles, avionics, forensic and defense applications. I-grade products are tested for operation in harsh environments, including extreme temperatures from -40°C to +85°C, ensuring optimal performance whatever situations the device faces in real world use. I-grade SSD supports Cryptoerase which will zeroize 20TB full-range capacity data within several seconds via a hardware trigger signal input or host command. It can also be converted to an SLC 10TB to extend NAND flash programs and erase cycle endurance up to 10 times by initializing NAND flash. This full SLC mode can be programmed pre-purchase at an additional charge.

"We are proud to announce the launch of Novachips’ newest, massive capacity SSD," said Daniel Kim, Novachips CEO. "This new 20TB addition to our SCALAR product range is an optimal choice for anyone who wants to upgrade their data storage capacity and legacy system performance. It is particularly useful in situations where scale-up of existing storage architecture is problematic – simply plug and play SCALAR-20T for additional massive storage capacity."

Most large-capacity SSDs on the market utilize TLC (Triple-Level Cell) memory chips to achieve high capacity. That is because TLC memory chips are available in higher data capacity at a lower cost point than MLC (Multi-Level Cell). Novachips opted to utilize MLC (Multi-Level Cell) memory chips in the SCALAR range, to ensure that their SSDs met the exacting demands of military, avionics and other mission-critical applications – MLC-based chips maintain higher level of data retention and deliver more reliable data integrity, even in extreme situations.

Standard features supported by the SCALAR-20TB I-grade SSD include:

  • 256-bit AES hardware encryption
  • Hardware write protection
  • SRAM/DRAM ECC protection
  • Sudden power-off protection
  • IPC-compliant conformal coating
  • CMVP FIPS-140-2 validation is completed with 4TB and 8TB versions at this time. We expect validation of our recent model in the near future.

Poverty eradication in China: Concrete protection of human rights

BEIJING, April 14, 2021 — A news report by China.org.cn on China’s recently released white paper on poverty alleviation:

Poverty eradication in China: Concrete protection of human rights
https://youtu.be/xiZGYTo5n-U

Recently, China has issued a white paper titled "Poverty Alleviation: China’s Experience and Contribution." The document reviews the great fight in eliminating extreme poverty in China, home to nearly one fifth of the world’s population.

Apart from astounding numbers, the white paper also provides impressive descriptions of changes to the lives of impoverished people. The battle against poverty has not only brought about significant improvements to the living standards of the poor, but also a thorough transformation of their mindset, inside and out. Here, a story epitomized how such transformation was made possible.

Li Wenwen and her two sisters live in Yanchuan county of Yan’an city, once a national-level poverty-stricken county. Their mother is missing, and their father has a mental illness brought on by the pressures of life. When village officials visited the family several years ago, they saw the three girls raggedly dressed, their eyes full of fear, and traces of fire still on the walls of their cave house caused by aging circuits.

Gao Yuan, first Party secretary said, "Poverty once deprived the farmers here of any sense of happiness. And the pressures of life made them feel a lack of dignity."

Under the guidance of targeted poverty alleviation policies, residents in Yanchuan who are able to work began developing industries that leverage local strengths, such as growing apples and red dates. As for Li Wenwen’s family, the local government helped them build a new house and organized for her father to receive hospital treatment. The three girls also realized their dream of going to school.

There wasn’t any nervousness on their faces in front of the camera. Instead, they were beaming with joy. After getting out of poverty, residents in Yanchuan showed their enthusiasm for pursuing a better life.

There is an old saying in China: "When the granaries are full, the people follow rules of etiquette." Only when people have sufficient food and clothing, as well as access to education, housing and health care, can they live with more dignity. This also lays a solid foundation for people’s other rights and their future development. China, with a vast population, had a weak economic foundation and uneven development. In 1978, more than 770 million people in China’s rural areas lived below the current poverty line. By the end of 2012, there were still 98.99 million rural residents living in poverty, like Li Wenwen and her family. Therefore, China has been upholding the rights to subsistence and development as the primary human rights.

Based on such concepts of human rights, China has long focused on growing the economy and improving people’s lives as its top priorities; eradicating poverty through targeted policies to reach those truly in need is a typical practice to that end.

Today, 10% of the world’s population live in extreme poverty, and the long-term impact of COVID-19 means that this number is still increasing. China’s experience and philosophies outlined in the white paper, as well as its concrete practices, will contribute to building a global community with a shared future that is free from poverty and pursues common development.

How Co-Engineering Partnerships with LEICA, Hasselblad and ZEISS are Upping the Ante in Smartphone Photography

Mobile photography seems to be gaining steam with industry leading companies like ZEISS partnering with mobile manufacturers like vivo to push the boundaries of photography – particularly when it comes to mobile. Over the past few years, it seems like more and more people are turning to their smartphones as their go to phones and with companies like Sony pushing the boundaries with camera sensors, more attention has been paid to complementing them with better software and hardware.

The partnerships between brands like vivo and ZEISS can take many forms. In fact, we’ve seen the different ways these can play out in just the past two months. Of course, one of the partnerships we’ve seen is in the recent announcement of Hasselblad’s collaboration to improve mobile photography. In their collaboration, Hasselblad’s know-how is applied in the algorithm that is used to process the information from the sensor into the final photo. We also see partnerships where the imaging companies provide only the hardware, in the form of lenses or augmented sensors, for mobile brands to use similar to the partnership LEICA is involved in.

However, in the case of vivo and ZEISS, the companies are looking break new ground. They have first laid the groundwork for a partnership and collaboration that doesn’t just come in smartphone technology. They have setup the “vivo ZEISS Imaging Lab” which is focusing on developing and improving optical performance when it comes to mobile imaging. Of course, these developments will naturally trickle down to vivo’s premium flagship smartphones where, in recent years, vivo has been working to push the boundaries of creative expression.

The vivo X60 Series – A True Camera First Premium Flagship

vivo’s X60 series is the first smartphone to be on the receiving end of the partnership between vivo and ZEISS. Over the past few years, vivo has used the X series of smartphones to zoom in on creators and imaging enthusiasts. They have infused the smartphones with revolutionary technologies that up the ante in a way we’ve not seen in the industry just yet.

vivo’s quarter of a decade of experience in creating mobile devices is further honed by their X50 series. The first debut of their gimbal technology brought a fresh breath of air into a still space when it came to technological innovations. That’s further enhanced in their collaboration with ZEISS. The collaboration is a pervasive marriage of both companies’ prowess ranging from the software to hardware of the cameras featured on the X60 series of smartphones.

ZEISS Biotar Portrait Style

The new vivo X60 series comes with a whole slew of features that put the collaboration front and centre but, perhaps, the most visible inclusion of ZEISS in the ability of the X60 series to reproduce pictures taken with ZEISS’s signature Biotar lenses. The pictures taken in this mode on the X60 series come with the central resolution and rotational bokeh that are the hallmark of ZEISS’s Biotar lenses. This is achieved with the progressive bokeh simulation and distributed blurred spot rotation of the algorithm on vivo’s X60 series smartphones.

Of course, the ZEISS Biotar Portrait style isn’t the only filter or style available on the X60 series. In fact, it actually joins a formidable arsenal that includes multiple night filters such as Black and Golden which highlights the shadows and turns the photo a golden sepia for a deep, emotional flare.

Gimbal Stabilization 2.0

The hallmark of vivo’s X series since its introduction last year is Gimbal Stabilization. This year, the vivo X60 series brings along Gimbal stabilization 2.0. The new updates to the feature include a new, customised Sony IMX598 with a larger aperture for better low light performance and sharper images. The feature also comes with vivo’s own VIS 5-axis video stabilization which allows the sensor to compensate for sudden jerks and movements that can occur when shooting videos, particularly action shots. The sum of these features is a cinema grade, stabilised video which is ready to upload and show off to the world.

Powered by A Flagship Grade processor

The vivo X60 series doesn’t just bring features some might consider gimmicks. It comes packing the Snapdragon 870 SoC which packs quite the punch when it comes to performance. The performance oriented SoC comes with 8-cores which allows it to take on more demanding tasks with more gusto. In fact, the built-in AI features power some of the vivo X60 series’ hallmark features and is responsible for the optimisations that result in better battery life. The SoC also enables the many algorithms that help create the filters and features that complement the camera hardware on the vivo X60. This includes the ZEISS powered filters.

All in all, the ground-up approach vivo is using in its partnership with ZEISS has only just begun. ZEISS has the prowess and know-how to help vivo level up its camera game in the long run and it’s very clear that the vivo X60 series is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the fruits of this partnership.

Geek+ and AMH Material Handling deliver robotic sortation project with Asda Logistics Services

– Pioneering use of ‘smart sorting robots’ enabling Asda Logistics Services to increase operational efficiencies

LONDON, April 14, 2021 — Geek+, a global leader in robotic automation solutions, is excited to announce the successful collaboration with Asda Logistics Services (ALS) and AMH Material Handling to launch an intelligent sorting system in Asda’s distribution center. The system will provide Asda with the capacity to support continued growth across its parcel collection and returns business.

Sixty robots have been placed into the supermarket’s South Elmsall, West Yorkshire distribution center, allowing 2,000 parcels to be sorted each hour with 99.99% accuracy through its Asda toyou service.

The installation marks the first time the technology has been used in this way in the UK, supporting an increase in capacity for Asda toyou’s services as demand for parcel collection and returns services has grown at pace in the last 12 months. With the pandemic causing a change in customer behavior and an uplift in the number of purchases made online, Asda toyou experienced significant growth through the provision of a reliable, convenient returns solution that allowed shoppers to combine activities in a single trip to an Asda store.

At the same time, Asda toyou has expanded the number of retailers it supports. Over 100 are now available via the service, which has seen it process 65% more returns than at the start of 2020.

The project was implemented by AMH Material Handling, a top provider of material handling solutions, and Geek+. By integrating S20C robots into the existing ALS sorting system, it has provided Asda toyou the ability to respond to rapid changes in order volume and continue to provide excellent services during periods of peak demand.

Lit Fung, VP and Managing Director of Geek+ APAC, UK and Americas, says: "We’re proud to see AMH leverage our sorting system to support a leading retailer like Asda with the flexibility and efficiency needed to expand its Asda toyou business. The process for intelligent sorting is pretty straightforward. By letting a network of AMRs transfer incoming parcels from workstations to cages of corresponding destinations, we can improve accuracy and efficiency while also making the process more ergonomic for warehouse employees. With no need for fixed platform development, it makes it easy for Asda to scale operations in line with business growth. All they have to do is adjust the number of robots and destination chutes."

Adrian Carter, Sales Director at AMH Material Handling, says: "We had a lot of fun delivering the solution as Geek+ sorting robots are a highly flexible technology that can be integrated and customized to work with existing equipment on customer sites, such as conveyor belts or other robots. It provides us a powerful tool for optimizing sorting operations according to the specific needs of each customer. And, as an integrator, AI-enabled robotics solutions add a new dimension to our services as it allows us to continuously support our customers according to changes in business needs."

Jon Parry, Vice President of Asda Logistics Services (ALS) at Asda, says: "We’re pleased to be one of the first retailers in the UK to pioneer the Geek+ S20C robots in our National Sortation Centre working in collaboration with partners at Geek+ and AMH. The robots work alongside our colleagues, enabling us to drive greater efficiencies at times of peak demand, which have helped to boost the number of parcels we’re now able to sort through our Asda toyou service."

Geek+ and AMH started to cooperate in 2019 when AMH recognized Geek+ robotics solutions provided industry-leading technology. Today, the two work closely together to provide clients all over the UK with great automation solutions.

Acer Launches the Nitro 5 with AMD Ryzen 9 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080

PC gaming is not cheap. That is pretty much know though. Consider this, the latest gaming console like the Sony PlayStation 5 and the Microsoft Xbox Series X will set you back between MYR 2,500 to MYR 3,000. The latest entry level gaming PC with the latest hardware will set you back about the same amount of money to be fair if you get a desktop. The caveat is that you will not get the same 4K 120fps experience on the desktop compared to the console. If you want to talk about portable gaming, the prices are even higher.

Of course, there is more to a PC than just gaming though. When you get a gaming PC, your PC doubles as your productivity machine. It will be something that accompanies you into your work and your life. It browses the internet, it edits word documents, and it checks your emails. In the case of notebook PCs, there is more than productivity. Notebook PCs are about productivity on-the-go. Of course, gaming notebooks are about gaming and productivity on-the-go.

While gaming is not cheap, it does not have to be bank breaking though. You can get an entry level gaming notebook now from as low as MYR 3,699. Yes, we are talking about the AMD powered Acer Nitro 5 gaming notebook. Well, it is in the title.

The Nitro 5 for 2021 was technically announced in CES 2021 and is just making its way to Malaysia. The new gaming notebook comes with its own sets of cosmetic updates, as usual, and a few internal upgrades too from its previous iteration, as expected. Most of the upgrades are not really what we expected from an “entry-level” perspective though.

The base model is still pretty “entry-level” at MYR 3,699 (AN515-4S-R9RJ). You get an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H 7nm processor with Zen 3 architecture which should unlock a lot more performance from its previous generation. You also get a respectable NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU for all kinds of gaming needs. If you have a 4K display, this could work too. Just do not expect Ultra graphic settings with super high refresh rates at that kind of resolution.

Still, if you just work with the 15.6-inch display on the notebook, you still get a nice Full HD resolution with 144Hz of refresh rate. With the kind of internals you get, you should hit 144fps easily. You also get 8GB of dual channel RAM too. If you want, you can up that to up to 32GB (16GB x 2). You are not trading off too much storage space either with 512GB of SSD storage. Of course, that is expandable as well.

Thing is, the Acer Nitro 5 is not just an “entry-level” gaming notebook anymore. While you do get the entry-level spec with entry-level pricing, you can spec it up to turn it into a beast too.

You can spec your Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-4S-R49W) with an all-powerful AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processor. With that processor, you can also get a high-end NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 GPU with 8GB of DDR6 memory on board to run games at QHD (2K) resolution at a native 165Hz in refresh rate on the 15.6-inch display. With 16GB of DDR 4 RAM included, the Acer Nitro 5 turns into a beast of a gaming PC. You also get 1TB of storage to ensure that you can keep all your favourite games and still have space to spare for other things as well. All of that for MYR 8,999.

Alongside the Acer Nitro 5 gaming notebook, Acer also launches the Nitro QG1241Y P gaming monitor. The Nitro QG1 is a 24-inch display boasting Full HD resolution at 165Hz refresh rate. The VA panel support up to 1ms of response time as well alongside HDR10 support. Of course, like any modern display, there is a BlueLightShield blue light filter and flicker reduction technology to ensure the display does not strain your eyes.

The Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-4S-R9RJ) is now available for pre-order to 16th April 2021 at Acer’s Official Store on Shopee at MYR 3,699. The other variants of the Acer Nitro 5 will be available for pre-order on a later date from 27th to the 29th April 2021 (AN515-4S-R7QR) and 10th-12th May 2021 (AN515-4S-R4KB, AN515-4S-R5C7, AN515-4SR8XM, AN515-4S-R49W). The Acer Nitro QG1 (QG141Y P) 24-inch Full HD display is now available on pre-order until 16th of April 2021 on Acer’s official store on Shopee and Lazada for MYR 699. It will retail at MYR 749 after the pre-order date. For more information on the Acer Nitro 5 and Nitro QG1 gaming notebook and peripheral, do visit Acer’s website.

Algorand Enhances TEAL Smart Contract Language in Latest Upgrade

Improved developer experiences empower the Algorand community as DeFi and application building expands

BOSTON, April 14, 2021 — Algorand, a leading blockchain technology company accelerating the convergence of decentralized and traditional finance, continues to deliver on its commitment to technical innovation with the availability of its latest upgrade to its Layer-1 Smart Contracts language (TEAL), the first in a series of such enhancements. Smart Contracts on Algorand are built into Layer-1 and thus benefit from the network’s speed, security, and scalability with reduced settlement risk through trustless execution, low transaction fees, and flexible implementations needed to power complex applications.

The latest upgrade is based on direct feedback from the Algorand developer community to address and remove obstacles for viable mainstream adoption, mainly by ensuring application development is faster and more efficient.  Algorand’s smart contract language, TEAL (Transaction Execution Approval Language), has been upgraded  for a more optimized developer experience, while maintaining a Layer-1 language and increasing access and convenience, without compromising performance or economic efficiencies.

New features are comprised of the following distinct functionality:

  1. Complete access to transactions in the Atomic Transfer capability
  2. Better application permissions in addressing user demand using CreatorAddress
  3. New opcodes addressing demands from TEAL users and TEAL compilers

º     A concise way to express requirements
º     The ability to manipulate the stack and data values in a more concise way
º     The ability to combine Atomic Transfers together

With these new features, the following are now available for developers:

  • Convenience functions for examining other assets and stateful smart contracts
  • Functions to support better stack manipulation
  • Support for manipulating data with bit and byte functions
  • Improved conditional logic capabilities

In expanding the possibilities to write more efficient smart contracts, compilers and high-level languages are empowered with this TEAL upgrade as new gateways for development. Reach, a development platform, is one such example of tooling available to Algorand developers that lowers the barrier to entry, while enabling blockchain developers to build more sophisticated applications.

"Algorand continues to deliver on innovation, and it is exciting to see TEAL opening new opportunities for the growing developer community.  As a partner of Algorand empowering developers to leverage their high performing blockchain, it is a major milestone that anything written on Reach can now work on Algorand," says Chris Swenor, Founder & CEO, Reach.

Examples of applications that are now easier and more efficient to write on Algorand include:

This consensus protocol upgrade is the 5th for Algorand since inception, with no downtime or performance degradation— proving yet again that Algorand is built with the reliability, security, and evolving capabilities to continuously serve its developer community and pave the way for the future of finance (FutureFi).

Algorand always welcomes and values developers’ feedback as it directly impacts continued innovations. For more technical details, visit TEAL and the developer post here. Network model and risk-based prioritization provide greater visibility, insights, and speed to help enterprises prevent breaches

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 13, 2021Skybox Security today announced major enhancements to its Security Posture Management Platform. Skybox is the only platform that offers IT and security teams the ability to collectively visualize and analyze hybrid and multi-cloud networks, providing full context and understanding of their attack surfaces. Our latest release includes advanced analytics, optimized attack simulation, and increased dashboard customization – all of which increase the speed and accuracy of exposure analysis to improve overall security efficacy.

The Skybox Security Posture Management Platform is the only solution that analyzes and validates network, cloud, and security configurations together to proactively gain full context, understand the attack surface, and remediate threats faster.
The Skybox Security Posture Management Platform is the only solution that analyzes and validates network, cloud, and security configurations together to proactively gain full context, understand the attack surface, and remediate threats faster.

Skybox evolved its platform to support customers contending with expediated digital transformation initiatives such as cloud migration and IT/OT convergence. Customers will benefit from:

  • Increased agility with more granular insights delivered at a faster speed. To support bespoke organizational and operational workflow requirements, the Skybox platform includes new reporting capabilities with advanced dashboards, sophisticated data visualization features, and the ability to ingest and process more diverse datasets at higher rates.
  • Greater visibility across hybrid networks. Skybox continues to grow its comprehensive list of 150+ technology partnerships with new connectors that combine rich data from leading SD-WAN and SASE vendors such as Versa Networks and Zscaler. This release also extends support for Check Point, Cisco, and Forcepoint.
  • Optimized attack simulation. Deeper insights into exposure and risk in near real-time allow customers to develop the ideal remediation strategy and reduce mean time to remediation (MTTR). Customers with highly complex network models will significantly benefit from these performance enhancements.

"Digital transformation demands a new approach to security posture management," said Haggai Polak, chief product officer, Skybox Security. "Through automating data collection, correlation and analysis, security and IT teams can together leverage a multidimensional dynamic network model to understand risk levels, simulate attacks, and remediate vulnerabilities where it’s needed most."

The industry’s most comprehensive exposure analysis
Enterprises must optimize remediation strategies to focus quickly on the highest exposure risk to address the rise in vulnerabilities, expanding attack surface, sophisticated threat actors, and talent shortages. To calculate exposure, Skybox identifies exploitable vulnerabilities and uniquely correlates this data with network configurations and security controls to determine possible exposure.

Exposure analysis is only possible when disparate data repositories are normalized and brought together into a network model, including patch and asset management systems, vulnerability data, threat intelligence feeds, cloud and network device configurations. The network model provides a dynamic representation of hybrid environments across corporate networks, private cloud, public cloud, and OT.

Skybox uniquely enables multi-factor risk prioritization to conduct the most comprehensive exposure analysis available today through a combination of:

  • CVSS scoring: calculated by importing and merging data from multiple active scanners, web and application scans, EDR integrations, and Skybox’s own passive detection capabilities
  • Asset importance: identifies if assets are mission-critical or would expose sensitive data
  • Exploitability: determines if a vulnerability has been exploited in the wild, with Skybox Research Lab tracking tens of thousands of new vulnerabilities yearly on more than 8,000 products
  • Exposure analysis: determines which attack vectors can be exploited given the security controls and their configurations

"I look at data from scanners and say, so what? I need to understand what the true risk is that I’m carrying. I need to know what other controls I have in place and whether I should put in time and effort to apply a patch," said Dr. Rebecca Wynn, chief information security officer. "Failing to ask, ‘so what?’ is a critical failure. To make the data useful, I need to know what needs to be patched first and what the order of patches needs to be."

Accelerated platform adoption
A diverse list of new customers implemented Skybox in 2020, including Fortune 1000 companies, major financial institutions, energy and utility leaders, large retailers, healthcare organizations, numerous federal agencies, and local governments. Skybox also saw continued expansion of its Vulnerability and Threat Management Solution, particularly in highly regulated, complex industries, including financial services and critical infrastructure. Nearly 60% of sales came from existing satisfied customers expanding their deployments.

The latest release is available now. Schedule a demo.

NVIDIA Grace CPU for Datacentres for Next Generation Super Computers

NVIDIA’s GTC 2021 just happened last night. If you remembered 2020, you would remember that GTC 2020 was also the time where NVIDIA introduced their new A100 GPU chips for super computers. 2020 was also the yea NVIDIA launched their highly anticipated, and highly capable RTX 3000 series consumer grade GPUs.

GTC’s keynote is always a highly anticipated event. Not because the conference always brings a new GPU. Recent years of GTC has always been exciting because somehow GPU is able to push the limits of what is possible with computing and cloud. NVIDIA has made itself relevant not just in the graphics world, but also in the super computing world, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and even cybersecurity. NVIDIA’s own AI even composed its own song, and it is a good song mind you.

With GTC 2021, NVIDIA shows that they are not done innovating just yet. Now, they also want to give the likes of Intel a new sort of headache. NVIDIA has introduced Project Grace.

Source: NVIDIA

NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen Huang mentions that the name Grace refers to a particular pioneer in the computer science field, Grace Hopper. The project is NVIDIA’s first dip into the datacentre CPU industry. Fitting to the Grace Hopper namesake, project Grace is supposed to be 10x more powerful than the current NVIDIA GDX x86 supercomputer platform.

Why is this a problem for Intel? The world’s fastest supercomputer today is all powered by Intel’s x86 CPU platform. The x86 platform has also existed for about a decade now and the platform has approached its technological limits in 2021. Of course, NVIDIA took matters into their own hands and the Grace CPU is an ARM based chip for the fastest ever datacentre and servers in the world.

Just saying that the CPU will be the fastest ever server-based CPU though means nothing. What you want to know is numbers, and these are big numbers. The new Grace architecture allows the CPU and GPU to communicate at up to 900GB/s speed thanks to NVLink technology. According to NVIDIA, that is 30x faster than most servers today. Of course, paired to LPDDR5x memory modules, you get up to 10x the speed of today’s machines.

Before anyone can say that NVIDIA’s Grace dreams is just that; dreams, NVIDIA also announced that they will be installing their Grace based datacentre in the United States Department of Energy’s Los Alamos National Labrotory and the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS). The two clients will feature their very own NVIDIA powered supercomputer soon.

In those two places though, the servers and supercomputers are not built just to push cloud storage to corporations. They are purpose built for AI training and implementations. They are built for neural and language programming and training. They are built to progress humanity and probably cure cancer one day.

Of course, because Grace is a giant processor made for datacentres and supercomputers, we will not be expecting to see NVIDIA dive into consumer level ARM-based processors for PCs anytime soon. NVIDIA is working with MediaTek to bring their GPU technology into the mobile space and even ARM based PCs though. In that case, us regular consumers can expect a Qualcomm Snapdragon notebook PC with NVIDIA GeForce graphics power soon, probably. Catch NVIDIA’s GTC 2021 keynote on their website.
