Frost & Sullivan Reveals Four Key Areas Driving Growth of the Global Gigabit Ethernet Testing Market

The global Ethernet testing market is expected to reach $2 billion by 2025, with North America leading the way

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 25, 2020 — Frost & Sullivan’s recent analysis, High-Speed 200GbE and 400GbE Powering the Global Gigabit Ethernet Testing Market, finds that the growth of connected devices, incorporation of network virtualization functions, and shift to a multi-tenant cloud infrastructure are key factors driving the global Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) testing market. Compared to other markets, the impact of COVID-19 on the Gigabit Ethernet testing market was mild due to the shift to working from home, which increased the need for Ethernet technologies to ensure adequate bandwidth and security. The market is estimated to reach $2 billion by 2025 from $1.5 billion in 2020, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6%.

For further information on this analysis, please visit: http://frost.ly/4tv

"Courtesy of the mass adoption among hyperscale data centers, the 40/100GbE testing solutions, which are the leading revenue contributors by equipment type, are expected to make up 43.6% of all types of Gigabit Ethernet solutions, generating revenue of $875.8 million by 2025, up from $595.6 million in 2020," said Rohan Joy Thomas, Industry Analyst, Industrial Practice at Frost & Sullivan. "However, the fastest-growing segment by equipment type will be the 200/400GbE testing solutions, which are expected to account for 9.5% of the entire GbE testing revenue by 2025, up from 2.7% in 2020."

Thomas added: "While network equipment manufacturers and service providers will continue to be dominant end-users, enterprises will experience higher growth over the forecast period. North America leads the world in terms of Gigabit Ethernet testing, contributing 49.8% of the revenue generated in 2020, and is expected to continue in 2025. Asia-Pacific is expected to be the fastest-growing region, with countries such as China and South Korea making significant headway in deploying 5G services."

From home use to the enterprise, telecom, and data center industries, the use of Ethernet is spread far and wide. Market participants must consider the following key areas driving Gigabit Ethernet technology:

  • Industrial Internet of Things: Given the proliferation of IIoT on the factory floor, industrial Ethernet technologies should experience a high degree of adoption in applications like additive manufacturing, digital twinning, and robotics.
  • Data Centers: With the increase in data from a large number of networked devices and wireless mobile communications, hyperscale data centers, which are the bleeding edge of technology for the data center industry, would eventually require faster Gigabit Ethernet specifications.
  • 5G: Telecom operators deploying 5G require solutions that allow the incorporation of flexible Ethernet (FlexE) and adoption of enhanced Common Public Radio Interface (eCPRI), and offer visibility at the network edge.
  • Automotive Ethernet: Automotive OEMs require a substantial amount of Ethernet technology in their vehicles as they revamp their electrical and electronic (E/E) architecture to meet the demands of sensor positioning, fusion centers, in-vehicle communications, and network security.

High-Speed 200GbE and 400GbE Powering the Global Gigabit Ethernet Testing Market is the latest addition to Frost & Sullivan’s Measurement & Instrumentation research and analyses available through the Frost & Sullivan Leadership Council, which helps organizations identify a continuous flow of growth opportunities to succeed in an unpredictable future.

techENT Builds: Affordable AMD with a few Curveballs

AMD has recently announced their new Ryzen 5000 series processors and their new Radeon RX 6000 series graphics processors. However, with the components being slightly more expensive and possibly limited during the launch window, we looked to the previous generation to see if it was still viable to build a gaming setup which was a little bit “outdated”.

AMD’s Zen architecture has proven over and over again that they are capable of outdoing their competition in benchmarks. Benchmarks aside, we wanted to do some tests, regular people, like us, would look at to determine whether the setup is worth the investment. We looked at simple things like how the build performed in some of the more popular games and also some of the more recent ones. We also looked at everyday workflow items like video editing and even processing complex excel spreadsheets.

The only thing that remains is to answer the question: Is it still worth investing in a Ryzen 3000 and Radeon 5000 series build. Our frank answer: You could do worse; But we’re not going to leave with such a vague answer. We’ve broken down our experience with the rig with all the details we thought you’d need to make the decision.

The Build

ProcessorAMD Ryzen 5 (3600X)
Graphics ProcessorMSI Mech Radeon RX5600XT
RAMT-Force Delta 8GB 3200MHz x2
MemoryT-Force Delta 2.5-inch SSD 256GB

Power SupplySuper Flower 650W Modular
CasingMSI MPG Gungnir 110R
AccessoriesMSI Immerse GH70 Gaming Headset
MSI Vigor GK70 Gaming Keyboard
Razer Basilisk Gaming Mouse

When it came to this build, we tried to build a full MSI build while keeping the price as competitive as possible with one caveat – we had to keep to the latest parts available in the Malaysian market. That said, we had another thing on our minds when it came to the build: it needed to be able to do some video processing and play some of the latest games at the highest settings. Of course, we wanted to build a gaming PC, so the our main concern, aside from price, was its gaming performance.

We decided to go with the newer Ryzen 5 3600X for the processor cause the newer 3000 series processor is clocked slightly higher at 3.8 GHz which meant it has marginally better performance. That said, the sub MYR300 (USD$73.32) price difference between the Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 5 3600X is what decided it for us. With that little bit more performance from the hexacore (6-core) processor, we could, in theory, get better performance from intensive programs which meant more gaming prowess. We also decided to invest in an AiO liquid cooling solution to squeeze even more performance from the CPU.

For the GPU, it was a hard decision between an NVIDIA RTX GPU and the RADEON. However, in the interest of being thrifty and also building a full-on AMD rig, we decided to go with the RADEON RX 5600XT which was a little more recent and didn’t have a gigantic price difference. That said, we were also taking into consideration the performance gains over the RX 5500XT and the significant price difference between the RX 5700 and the RX 5600XT.

The motherboard was a tough dilemma. We were tossed between a better full ATX motherboard and a mini-ITX. However, after much deliberation, MSI and AMD challenged us to use their mini-ITX board with built-in WiFi. Little did we know that the board would be on the higher end of the spectrum when it came to price. That said, if it was solely up to us, we would have gone with a more full-featured full ATX motherboard with more expandability.

With our key components decided on, we let pricing decide the rest of the build. Accessories and the monitor were provided courtesy of MSI and we had our Razer Basilisk lying around to complete the build.

Performance

With all the parts put together, we’re finally at the most important part – how did the build perform? To be very honest – it actually did really well. The build was powerful enough to handle pretty much everything we threw at it and running it overnight didn’t seem to affect our electricity bill by much. However, the biggest downside to the Radeon GPUs was the lack of proper ray tracing support which led to slightly less detailed graphics in games such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Monster Hunter.

While the overview is pretty broad, we’re here for the itty-bitty details. We’re breaking down the build’s performance over three main categories – video and graphic work, gaming and high load processing. That said, we won’t be going into detail on 3D rendering work as it’s a niche area which we think doesn’t really reflect what a majority of us will be using the setup for gaming and day to day work.

AMD’s big play when it comes to their processors and graphics is a being made for gaming. We decided that since gaming and work are the mainstays of any computer system, we’d jump into the nitty-gritty when it came to gaming and some of the finer points of our work as well. During our review of the rig, we tested games such as Overwatch, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, Monster Hunter Worlds and Horizon Zero Dawn. We also tested it with Adobe Premiere Pro and some large excel files.

Gaming

Gaming is essential when it comes to us gamers. So we took a gander at how the build performed on some of the more recent titles as a test. Overall, it didn’t do too bad when it came to graphics and it was pretty consistent across the board in hitting around 60fps during gaming – which is sufficient for most games.

The first game we tested on the rig was Blizzard’s Overwatch – not the most graphically challenging game out there. But, when it comes to games like this, chaos can ensue when there’s a throwdown which can affect the game’s frame rate. That said, testing the game on a 55-inch 4K display was pretty amazing. There was little to no tearing or frame rate drops. However, the TV we tested it on didn’t have support for high refresh or frame rate so it maxed out at about 50 to 60 fps. On a monitor with support for 240Hz, the experience was similar with aiming and quick response becoming even easier.

In story-driven games such as Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order and Horizon Zero Dawn, the graphics quality was pretty commendable. In both the textures were crisp and detailed and the colours were deep and realistic. Battles were smooth with minimal frame drops and response time from the input was pretty good when it came to tense situations; there was hardly any lag between input and response. The same rang true when we tested it with Monster Hunter World.

For all the games we tested, the graphics settings were maxed out. The only thing that was missing compared to the competition was support for Ray Tracing which would have allowed for a more realistic experience when it came to the behaviour of light in the games. That said, the lack of ray tracing didn’t take too much away from the overall experience.

Video Editing

For content creators, video processing and editing would be one of the more important aspects of any build. We tested the setup rendering and editing videos on Adobe’s Premiere Pro. In a nutshell, the setup was able to handle pretty complex rendering with 4K footage – which is a good thing. However, it may be a little more challenging dealing with 8K footage.

Anyone that uses Adobe Premiere Pro will readily attest that, while the program is one of the best on the market, it can be a pain on both the processor and GPU. The program is notorious for sending fans into overdrive as it processes the many frames and effects you utilise to get the perfect video.

In our tests, we used 4K UHD video with multiple tracks for both audio and video as well as multiple overlays. Scrubbing the timeline with the preview set to full resolution was pretty smooth with little lag. Rendering complex effects and overlays in the footage for preview and export didn’t take too much time too. The 10-minute clip took about 25 minutes to render in full.

High Load Processing

To test this one out, we use a complex excel sheet – something a person dealing with large amounts of data would be using on a daily basis. The excel sheet was pretty huge – coming in at about 1GB with tables and charts that contained large, complex formulae. We manipulated the values in the sheet to test how long it would take the system to run the computation.

We were pretty impressed. The updates were done near instantaneously in tables while charts took slightly longer to update. This was one of the tests that actually impressed us when we performed it.

Final Verdict

AMD’s future proofing of their motherboard chipsets weighed pretty heavily in the consideration of whether the build is worth the time. The fact that they’ve promised support until 2020 for their current 400 and 500 series motherboards allows end users to bump up the power when they need it.

That said, you’d expect that system running “outdated” or older hardware had a lot lacking in terms of performance. However, as Dr Lisa Su mentions over and over again, it looks like, unless you’re in dire need of a top of the line system, AMD’s Ryzen and Radeon hardware does stand the test of time or in her words, “..ages like fine wine”. Performance in gaming, video editing and even high load processing was consistent and while it may be slower than newer ones, it didn’t have much to make up.

All in all, the build is a very capable one with at least another two to three years left in the higher levels of performance. Best part, you can create a similar one for about the same budget or you could go cheaper too.

ZTE and GSMA Intelligence Release White Paper on Green 5G – 5G Energy Efficiencies, Green is the New Black

SHENZHEN, China, Nov. 25, 2020 — ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, has released a white paper on its 5G Summit & User Congress on Green 5G, "5G Energy Efficiencies, Green is the New Black", authored by GSMA Intelligence, a leader in global telecoms, media and technology (TMT) research and part of the broader GSMA.

The white paper analyzes the background and principles of building and improving energy efficiency of communications networks in the 5G era from aspects of cost reduction, network performance optimization, energy security, and contribution to global carbon emission reduction. It also summarizes the feasibility of energy saving and consumption reduction through innovation from aspects of radio access network and wider network planning.

According to the white paper, to fundamentally reduce the energy consumption of radio access base stations, each part of the 5G network must be treated individually. Effective tools include applying more efficient battery solutions, lowering energy consumption of equipment, implementing more intelligent AI-driven sleep states, and more targeted network deployment planning. These measures can achieve end-to-end energy saving and consumption reduction of radio access base stations, and build a green communication network for the benefit of people.

To help the fight on global climate change goals and reduce mobile network operational costs, energy saving has become a major priority and mission of the telecommunications industry. While mobile networks bring near ubiquitous access, convenience and entertainment to the public, as more people use their smartphones for video and other bandwidth hungry services over LTE and 5G, power and energy consumption will rise in the absence of interventions. Wireless access network consumes the largest proportion of energy among the mobile network, and it is regarded as the main factor of energy consumption. As per the white paper data traffic is expected to grow three folds on a per user basis between now and 2025. The deployment and expansion of LTE and 5G networks will inevitably bring greater pressure to network energy consumption.

"Energy is a very large portion of the cost base for the operators, ranging from 20% to 40% of Opex across the industry," said Tim Hatt, Head of Research at GSMA Intelligence. "Things are moving quickly with energy efficient network technologies and a rebalancing of fuel sources towards renewables as more telcos set ambitious glidepaths towards carbon neutral and, eventually, net zero emissions. Energy and climate efforts are now very much front and centre objectives as part of doing business and not mere CSR."

In recent years, ZTE has submitted over 500 green 5G innovation patent applications. By means of the high-performance chipsets developed by ZTE, leading structural design and intelligent network operation tools, ZTE has been continuously lowering the power consumption of wireless base station equipment.

Based on energy saving functions and AI-based traffic load prediction, ZTE’s 4G and 5G network energy saving solution, PowerPilot, is the industry’s first to introduce AI-powered service-awareness energy saving. By identifying service types and their energy efficiency differences, PowerPilot can evaluate service requirements in real time and support the service with networks of higher energy efficiency to maximize energy efficiency in the entire network.

According to typical network configuration calculations, the energy saved by the PowerPilot solution is twice as much as that of the conventional AI-based energy saving solutions, and it can save up to 20% of energy in a multi-mode network, thereby effectively reducing the operational expenditure. To date, ZTE’s PowerPilot energy-saving solution has been deployed on more than 600,000 sites with over 20 networks worldwide, saving operators more than $1 billion in electricity expenses.

"ZTE has always taken energy saving and consumption reduction as its responsibility, and has been committed to developing innovative technologies," said Jason Tu, ZTE’s technical spokesperson and principle scientist of NFV/SDN products at ZTE. "By increasing technological efficiency and consumption, ZTE has worked with operators to build 5G green networks, to jointly fulfill its promise of ‘Climate Action’ to UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)."

Global Telco Cloud Revenue Will Grow to US$29.3 Billion by 2025

ABI Research’s latest whitepaper highlights 36 transformative technology stats you need to know for 2021

OYSTER BAY, N.Y., Nov. 25, 2020 — Global telco cloud revenue will grow to US$29.3 billion by 2025, up from US$8.7 billion in 2020, at a 5-year Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 27%. The telco cloud growth will be driven primarily by cloud infrastructure-related investments, such as Virtual Network Functions (VNFs), Management and Network Orchestration (MANO), and Cloud Native Functions (CNFs). By 2025, the telco cloud market will be worth US$10 billion in North America, US$9 billion in Asia-Pacific (APAC), and US$8.2 billion in Europe, forecasts global tech market advisory firm, ABI Research in its new whitepaper, The 36 Transformative Technology Stats You Need to Know for 2021.

This introduction of cloudified environments in the telco business landscape also presents some shifts in the value chain. For example, telcos are now being presented a second option of telco cloud deployment—the multi-vendor approach, in which different network equipment vendors are responsible for different components of the telco. "While this approach seems to provide some benefits, such as avoiding single-vendor lock in, it also requires substantial coordination of effort, not only through robust MANO, but also between stakeholders during certain key phases of the telco cloud deployment, such as the design and planning phase," explains Kangrui Ling, 5G Core and Edge Networks Research Analyst at ABI Research.

Another 5G Core and Edge Networks trend highlighted in the whitepaper: 5G network slicing stands to create approximately US$8.9 billion by 2026 at a CAGR of 76%. "Arguably that is a drop in the bucket for Communication Service Provider (CSP) service revenue. CSPs continue to possess strong network assets, namely low-latency, last-mile access and core network capabilities," Don Alusha, Senior Analyst at ABI Research points out. But for the broader industry, capturing significant new growth opportunity will vary in line with their corresponding digitization initiatives and readiness to adopt new technologies like 5G core networks and cloud-native principles. Conversely, hyperscalers like Microsoft and Amazon are cognizant of these dynamics and are positioning themselves accordingly with telco-specific solutions like Amazon Web Services (AWS) Wavelength and Microsoft Azure Edge Zones, particularly on edge computing deployments. "Though moderate in the next 5 years, new value creation abounds, but the jury is still out who captures what parts of the bigger emerging 5G edge and network slicing ecosystem," Alusha says.

About the whitepaper, Stuart Carlaw, ABI Research’s Chief Research Officer says, "We have selected, from among the many millions of data points ABI Research creates each year, to focus on some enlightening data points that matter in the year ahead. Aspects like Tiny Machine Learning (TinyML), private cellular networks, Open Radio Access Network (RAN), blockchain, smart manufacturing platforms, and even connected cows point to how technology advancements are allowing our physical world to be better connected, managed, and efficient. The forecasts presented in this paper may be easy to dismiss but are very important directional indicators of the technology-enabled world of the future."

Impartner Announces Live 3D Virtual Summit Featuring Top Channel Analysts Jay McBain and Maria Chien

Exclusive, invite-only event for Impartner customers and prospects tackles top channel lessons learned in 2020, what else to look out for, and what to do about them in 2021 and beyond

The summit, "How to Universe-Proof Your Channel, No Matter What It Throws at You," will be held in a fully immersive 3D environment with participants attending as avatars

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 25, 2020 — Impartner, a global leading provider of channel management and Partner Relationship Management (PRM) technology, today announced a live, 3D virtual summit featuring Forrester’s Principal Analyst, Channels Partnerships and Ecosystems Jay McBain, and VP, Research Director Maria Chien. The summit, "How to Universe-Proof Your Channel, No Matter What it Throws at You," will be held in a fully immersive, 3D environment with participants attending as avatars, and focus on top channel lessons learned in 2020, what else to look out for and what to do about them in 2021 and beyond to ensure next year is the best year ever for their channel operations. To request an invite, visit https://www.impartner.com/virtual-summit/.

"The events of 2020 have caused every one of us to examine every aspect of our personal and professional lives to redefine success and how we get there," said Impartner CMO Kerry Desberg. "Clearly the universe has more challenges in store for 2021 and this deeply insightful two-hour virtual channel power session with arguably the channel’s most prestigious analysts is 100 percent focused on helping attendees not only survive, but thrive and prosper in what is certain to be another turbulent year of transition and change."

On the 3D venue, Desberg says the goal is to break attendees out of the 3 by 3 squares most everyone has spent the last 10 months in on one communications platform or another. "Every dimension of our lives has been challenged, so why not explore what we’ve learned and get recommendations on what we do next in a fun, immersive experience?" Desberg said.

Once registered, attendees will be able to design their avatars, order schwag, and learn about and schedule a demo of Impartner technology – all in Impartner’s 3D virtual environment. Attendees will attend the summit and interact with others in avatar form – including during the break, where they can choose to visit a variety of breakout rooms and spend time with Impartner’s executive team, members of its Channel Chief Advisory Board, top customers and engineers and product managers in a virtual BrainLab.

"No one would choose the seemingly uncontrollable series of events of 2020, but what we can control is our reaction to it," said Desberg. "Our customers look to Impartner to help them propel their channels forward regardless of market conditions with innovation in our technology and adaptability in our approach to how we do business together – including respectful humor and creativity to bring energy and possibility into a challenging period of history.  We love that Jay and Maria embrace that spirit, and we could not be more excited to bring this informative, ‘can’t miss’ channel event to life."

POCO Launches the M3 – Paying for More than You Expectry Level Smartphone

What can US$ 149 (MYR 599**) get you today? In Malaysia, MYR 600 is what you can expect to pay if you buy about three PlayStation games. Smartphones? You are talking about an entry-level smartphone; something basic maybe.

If you are spending that amount of money on a smartphone, we can tell you a few things. Firstly, you do not expect it to perform like a Samsung Galaxy S device. We will also tell you that it might be a good secondary device for you, if you already have a smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy S device. Beyond not expecting to have a device with the quality of a Samsung Galaxy S device, we would also say that you do not expect much. Sure, you can work with all the basic functions of a smartphone like Whatsapp messaging, making calls, play simple games, go to the web, play music, watch videos on YouTube and Netflix, but do not expect a stellar experience with it.

All of the above may be true, until now. You see, smartphone manufacturers like Samsung and HUAWEI have been focusing mainly on pushing their branding into their own class. They want their brand to be premium in perception. In that case, a smartphone worth MYR 599 might not be great if you reach out to these brands. This is not the case for POCO though.

Source: POCO

POCO is a brand that was born to beat the bigger name brands at their own game. They are value players in the field and seems to offer you something more than what you are paying for. That is always true for their higher end devices. Thing is, POCO has never made entry-level smartphones before until they launched the M3 just now.

Before you pass off judgment and give the device a pass though, you should know that POCO has brought their value-for-money philosophy and approach to the device they just launched today. The only difference between this and the high-end device is the low pricing starting at US$ 149 (MYR599**). What the device packs sounds like you are paying for more than it is worth.

First off, the processor, as usual. The POCO M3 comes with a brand-new Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 System on a Chip (SoC) that is supposed to be more powerful than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 platform. Which also means that you are getting something that is more comparable to a mid-range smartphone in power than a lowly entry-level. The 11nm Octa-core chip also packs a Qualcomm Adreno 610 GPU to boot and has a dedicated AI engine built-into the chip. While it does not mean that the device will top out any benchmark charts, the SoC is powerful enough to run Android 10 smoothly and work with most games nicely.

With the SoC also comes a 4GB RAM. 4GB RAM does not sound like a lot in today’s standards for smartphones. To be fair, it is not that much. 4GB RAM though is enough for a modern Android device and some multitasking. You can still get away with multiple apps open in the background and browse the web with a few tabs on.

While 4GB of RAM might not help that much with speeds, the UFS 2.2 (up to) storage that measures at 128GB (up to) should help you with data read and write speeds. That also means that you can instantly access most of the apps within the device with no speed issues at all. Sure, it may not be as snappy as the flagship devices, but it should still be quick enough that you might not notice the difference.

The triple camera module still features 48-Megapixel in resolution. The main shooter has a 2-Megapixel macro camera and a 2-Megapixel depth sensor for support and more photography options. Of course, there is a front-facing camera that sits pretty in a Dot Drop notch above the display with 8-Megapixel power.

Source: POCO

While there is nothing to shout about in the camera department, the display should be commended. It is a large 6.53-inch Full HD+ display that is only disturbed by the notch for the front-facing camera. You can get it up to 400nits in brightness and it is TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light certified. Best of all though it sits under a Corning Gorilla Glass to protect it from clumsiness and stratches.

All this goodness is powered by a larger-than-ever 6,000mAh battery. A Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra only has a 4,500 mAh battery. The 6,000mAh battery should keep you running for days from a single charge. When the power runs out, quickly get it up and running again with 18W fast charging and the included 22W charger. If you really need to, the 6,000mAh battery can share its charge with other devices, so you are now your friends’ hero too.

Additionally, the POCO M3 comes with Dual Speakers and 3.5mm jack. Your old earphones can get some loving from the device. With Hi-Res Audio certification, your older high-end earphones can get some love. That Also means you can load up Hi-Res audio files into the device too if you want. Maybe you might want to consider getting a 512GB MicroSD card for your Hi-Res audio files though.

The POCO M3 will be available on the 27th November 2020 onward globally and in Malaysia in two storage configurations: 4GB + 64GB and 4GB + 128GB. For now, in Malaysia, the POCO M3 will only be available in Cull Blue, and Power Black colour options. The POCO Yellow variant will be available at a later date (pending announcement). You can get your hands on one exclusively via Xiaomi Official Store on Lazada for MYR 599 (US$ 149*) and MYR 699 (US$169*) respectively. On sales launch date though, customers can get the devices for MYR 499 (US$129***) and MYR 599 (US$149***) respectively while stocks last. In addition to the MYR 100 discount on the device, buyers will also get a Mi In-ear Basic Piston Earphone, while stocks last. For more information on the POCO M3 you can head out to their website.
