SpaceChain Receives Grant from EUREKA GlobalStars-Singapore Call to Jointly Develop Decentralised Satellite Infrastructure with Consortium Partners

Milestone brings together SpaceChain, Addvalue Innovation and Alba Orbital on a mission to democratise access to space innovations

HARWELL, England, Dec. 10, 2020 — EUREKA, in partnership with Enterprise Singapore and Innovate UK, has awarded GBP440,000 in funding together with access to research and development facilities and resources to SpaceChain UK Limited (SpaceChain) and consortium partners Addvalue Innovation Pte Ltd ("Addvalue ") and Alba Orbital. Awarded under the EUREKA Globalstars-Singapore Call, the companies will jointly develop a decentralised satellite infrastructure (DSI) that powers a blockchain payload at its core to enable direct tasking of a satellite in real-time.

The DSI innovation will be formed by a mesh-network of heterogeneous spacecrafts that is owned by multiple parties across jurisdictions operated in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The DSI is set to democratise access to the nascent space sector with lower barriers to entry by individual companies. The innovation also bridges the communication gap between technology and data.

Once the DSI architecture and the blockchain payload is developed, stringent testing will be carried out on the blockchain-based satellite tasking to ensure secure, reliable connectivity and performance between the DSI infrastructure and ground-based users in real-time. The DSI infrastructure will advance the development of commercial use cases linking space resource providers, satellite application and fintech companies with an ultra-secure and low-latency network.

"We are honoured to receive support from EUREKA, Enterprise Singapore and Innovate UK as we forge ahead on our mission to develop a New Space Economy and minimise the entry barriers to space with the DSI," said Nick Trudgen, chief commercial officer and UK director at SpaceChain. "Space exploration projects are tremendous in scale and require close collaboration and partnership, and this milestone unlocks new opportunities for building commercial solutions that leverage space and blockchain applications."

The innovation will be made possible collectively with the blockchain payload and software package developed by SpaceChain, the Unicorn-2 PocketQube platform built by Alba Orbital, and on-demand real-time communication provided by Addvalue through their Inter-Satellite Data Relay System (IDRS) that leverages LEO-Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO) links.

"With the global blockchain market size projected to grow at a CAGR of 67.3% per annum from USD3.0 billion in 2020 to USD39.7 billion by 2025*, it is undeniable that blockchain technologies will play a very significant role in space applications, especially in the name of cyber-security in protecting the different assets in the space information network. The Addvalue IDRS solution is a key enabler in ensuring the availability of low latency and reliable connectivity for the effective blockchain applications in a decentralized and distributed satellite infrastructure. The funding from EUREKA epitomizes our collective innovation in redefining the future of space applications. Addvalue, through the offering of its proven inter-satellite communication expertise and developmental capabilities for such embedded systems, is excited to be part of the consortium which put us in a pole position to target the fast growing blockchain market in a satellite environment," said Francis Low, Head of Advanced Development at Addvalue Innovation.

"We are very excited to collaborate with SpaceChain and Addvalue as we integrate our expertise for ground-to-satellite communications to create this pioneering DSI Innovation," said Tom Walkinshaw, founder and CEO of Alba Orbital. "Built upon our shared vision in advancing the frontiers of space technologies for businesses, the partnership will catalyse the use of space systems and services in the commercial market with unparalleled performance and security."

The EUREKA project is expected to commence in early 2021.

Entain Marks Its First Day With Measures To Deliver On Its New Strategy

– U.S. growth accelerates as BetMGM plans to double its footprint in three months

– Entain to seek licence in Canada and becomes the first global sports betting and gaming operator to gain a licence in Latin America

LONDON, Dec. 10, 2020 — The global sports betting and gaming group previously known as GVC Holdings plc, marked the first day of trading under its new name with a range of measures to deliver on the vision and direction recently outlined by its CEO Shay Segev. The new measures extend across all the countries in which it operates with brands including bwin, PartyPoker, Ladbrokes, Coral, FoxyBingo and BetMGM.

jwplayer.key=”3Fznr2BGJZtpwZmA+81lm048ks6+0NjLXyDdsO2YkfE=”

Last month Entain announced a new strategy to deliver significant growth, driven by expansion in the U.S., growth across its core business, entry into new markets, and to new audiences. Entain, which has a very strong track record of 19 consecutive quarters of double-digit growth in its online business, also committed to lead responsible gaming with a new Sustainability Charter. Under this charter, the business pledged to focus only on regulated markets and use its proprietary technology to raise levels of player protection.

As part of these plans to deliver growth and sustainability, Entain today confirmed strong momentum and market share gains in the U.S. for BetMGM, its joint venture with MGM Resorts. Between October and January BetMGM is adding five new states, doubling its population reach in three months to around 75 million across 12 states. Entain also disclosed that BetMGM’s most recent state launch in Tennessee has been its most successful go-live yet with revenues already ahead of those in more established states. Powered by Entain technology, BetMGM expects to be in over 20 states by the end of 2021.

"We are firmly on track to take further leadership in the U.S. as well as in many other newly regulated markets that are now opening around the world." said Segev. "At the heart of our growth strategy is a determination to bring the best player experiences and protections to our industry as technology moves sport and interactive entertainment into a new era. In the U.S., we invested in building the right building blocks for the BetMGM platform to grow and become a long-term leader in the U.S., with superior technology and capabilities, and this is now paying off."

Entain also fleshed out its new Sustainability Charter, allocating money to new projects which will be delivered through its international Foundation around the world. It also gave further detail on its new Advanced Responsibility and Care (ARC) initiative, seeking to revolutionise player experiences and protection through world-leading research, data science and technology. Other new measures include:

Focus on new regulated markets: In line with its stated intention to focus on fully regulated markets, Entain today announced it has become the first global sports betting and gaming operator to gain a licence in Latin America and expects to go live in Colombia over the next month. Colombia is one of the first countries to issue licences in Latin America with others, such as Brazil preparing to follow. Elsewhere in the Americas, Canada is also moving ahead with regulation and Entain confirmed it will be applying for licencing in Canada.

  • Investing in people and communities: Entain has pledged to invest £100 million over five years in the Entain Foundation to fund responsible gaming initiatives and to support people and communities around the world where it operates. Today, it announced a series of international commitments:

UK: Entain and the three Trident Leagues (The Isthmian, Northern Premier and Southern Leagues) are to launch the Trident Community Foundation to help fund community-based projects. Grants will be open for the 228 football clubs that participate in the leagues.
"Pitching In", Entain’s recently launched grassroots sport investment programme, is the founding partner of the Trident Community Foundation (TCF) and has donated £150,000 to establish the TCF fund, for distribution over the rest of the 2020/21 season.

US: The Entain Foundation is rolling out an extensive state-by-state program with EPIC, a charitable organisation which works with former athletes and people who have overcome gambling addiction to help educate people on how to play safely.

The U.S. project announced today with EPIC extends the program to a total of 15 Pro Sports teams and over 20 colleges across the country, including Harvard University, University of Oregon, and the Mid-American Conference. Entain and EPIC plan to work together to add additional professional sports leagues and colleges across the US during 2021.

Germany: The Entain Foundation will continue existing sports integrity projects in Germany and receive early funds to initiate further activities around responsible gaming.

Australia:  The Foundation has announced initial new projects to advance responsible gaming with Relationships Australia, a community-based not for profit organisation which provides a range of counselling and support services to problem gamblers and their families. The new funding will be used to support a social media campaign to reach vulnerable audiences and to raise awareness of the signs of gambling addiction.

  • Advanced Responsibility and Care (ARC): Under this recently announced programme, Entain will combine its technology with research and insight from leading psychologists and Harvard to develop innovative experiences and safeguards for a new era in interactive sport and entertainment. To this end, Entain today announced that:

    Dr. Michael Auer,
a leading academic and member of the scientific community at the University of Hohenheim in Germany, specialising in behavioural psychology and addiction, will join Entain alongside Professor Mark Griffiths, Distinguished Professor of Behavioral Addiction and Psychology at Nottingham Trent University. They will evaluate and advise on improvements to Entain’s guidelines and processes in relation to responsible gaming.

Acer Launches the Predator Orion 3000 – The Ultimate Compact LAN Party Companion

Gaming is in Acer’s blood. The Predator brand that stems out from the Taiwanese based firm is now one of the most recognisable names in the PC gaming community. Of course, building on a solid branding block and competitively valued gaming PC builds help cement their legacy in the gaming and eSports community.

Predator Orion 3000

Source: Acer

Before there was eSports though, there was something called a LAN Party. A LAN Party is basically a place for gamers to come together to game together in the same space; hence, LAN (Local Area Network). People used to come together to play multiplayer games like Counter Strike and such. In these LAN parties, you are expected to bring your own peripherals and even your own PC.

In such conditions, you need a gaming PC that is compact enough to take with you anywhere in the world. You still need powerful hardware as well though, for all the serious gaming you are going to get yourself into. You might want to go wireless as well, in this case.

That is why Predator built the Orion 3000, the baby Orion. The latest Orion series hardware features a compact mid-tower case that is ready to take on the latest AAA titles without breaking a sweat. You might break a sweat carrying the powerful package.

The Predator Orion 3000’s chassis is a custom-built chassis by Predator to look the part. The chassis even features a built-in headphone hook. But it is not form without function here. The chassis is designed with upgradability in mind. In that case, you can open the case and even upgrade the GPU or any other components yourself with little in your way.

You get to work with a 10th Generation Intel Core i7 (up to) paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (up to) SUPER for good measure. The combination of the CPU and GPU, on top of a healthy 8GB of RAM should be a recipe that works with most AAA titles today. If 8GB is not enough, you can fit up to 64GB of RAM into the baby Orion. All the peripherals get a healthy dose of air thanks to two in-house developed Acer FrostBlade fans with RGB ability.  Of course, ther is WiFi 6 so that you can set up from anywhere and still get a decent network connection even without wires.

Predator XB273U GX Gaming Monitor

Source: Acer

Of course, powerful hardware must be paired to a display worthy of all its power. You want a fast display, you want pretty colours, and you want 27-inch. We feel that 27-inch is the magic number for gaming monitors. It is big enough to fit a table and for you to see everything on your desk with enough details. It is not too big too for your desk so you can just sit at a comfortable distance and take advantage of the large display area.

The Predator XB273U GX gaming monitor fits that bill perfectly. 27-inch, check. Fast, it boasts 270Hz refresh rate and 0.5ms response time, overclocked; so, check. It boasts HDR 400 certification and Delta E<2; pretty colours, check. You can even power it with a USB Type-C 65W power delivery output.

On top of all of that you can swivel the monitor around, tilt it, and adjust its height for maximum comfort and most efficient layout on your desk. Thanks to 99% AdobeRGB colour gamut and Delta E<2 as well, the monitor can be used in creative cases such as photo and video editing when you need to. Did we forget to mention its WQHD (2560 x 1440) resolution?

Acer CB342CK C Monitor

Source: Acer

At home though, you might want something a little more immersive. You might want an ultra-wide display to view everything on one display. You might want an Acer CB342CK C UltraWide monitor.

The Acer CB342CK C monitor features a 34-inch display that is stretched out wide. It boasts 3,440 by 1,440 (UWQHD) in resolution. It is still an acceptably speedy monitor too with 75Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time. Like the XB2783U GX, you can power the Ultra-Wide monitor with 65W power delivery too.

The ultra-wide IPS display is still a good-looking display with 99% sRGB colour gamut still. You get up to 400nits in brightness too if you need it. With AMD Radeon FreeSync, the monitor should still be reasonably good with games. The extra display real estate should allow for a more immersive gaming experience, especially with racing games.

Price and Availability

The Predator Orion 3000 comes in either a 10th Generation Intel Core i7 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER pairing (MYR 6,799) or a 10th Generation Intel Core i5 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER pairing (MYR 4,099). Both comes in the same great looking chassis. The baby Predator is now available from Acer’s authorised resellers across the nation and from Acer’s official online stores (including Lazada and Shopee).

Evolv Technology Lauded by Frost & Sullivan for its AI-powered Touchless Threat Detection Technology, Evolv Express™

In addition to detecting weapons, Evolv Express™’ ability to detect body temperature makes it an ideal tool to optimize safety measures and ensure minimum person-to-person interaction

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 10, 2020 — Based on its recent analysis of the North American AI-based touchless security screening solution market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Evolv Technology with the 2020 North American Technology Innovation Leadership Award for Evolv Express™. As the only touchless security screening system in the world, it is a viable alternative to existing metal detector arches and handheld wands due to its ability to identify concealed weapons with high sensitivity and accuracy.

Photo – https://mma.prnewswire.com/media/1361834/Evolv_Technology_Award.jpg

"Evolv Express™ comprises a low-frequency electromagnetic sensor and AI feature that can detect, locate, and automatically categorize concealed explosives and firearms on visitors or employees in real-time while ignoring other harmless personal items such as smartphones, keys, coins, and belts. There is no need for visitors to stop, empty their pockets, and open their bags for physical/invasive security screening," said Varun Babu Industry Analyst. "Significantly, it is 10x faster than traditional metal detectors and can screen more than 3,600 individuals per hour, wherein individuals can walk at a normal pace one at a time, or in groups via multi-lane entrances. This reduces manpower costs and the need for additional security guards at multi-lane security screening checkpoints."

Evolv is primarily deployed at large workplaces, ticketed venues, and schools. To date, it has screened more than 50 million individuals and prevented visitors from carrying over 5,000 weapons into facilities and events. The solution is also highly adaptable to address COVID-19-related challenges. With workers now slowly returning to the workplace, the company has modified the solution to help assess health risks. The Evolv Express Thermal Imaging Package comprises a thermal sensor and the Evolv TempCheck™ software application that aids companies in screening their employees and visitors for elevated temperatures.

Meanwhile, STANLEY Security, the world’s second-largest electronic security company and global integrator of comprehensive security solutions, has strategically collaborated and invested in Evolv Technology. It also has global distribution agreements with Johnson Controls and many other regional distributors worldwide. This business model empowers the company to achieve a wide global presence with extended support from resellers and channel partners.

"Evolv’s recent addition of the thermal sensor and the Evolv TempCheck software application in Evolv Express is aiding its expansion efforts in Europe and Asia-Pacific," noted Babu. "With more than 100 patents filed related to its automatic threat detection technology with real-time analysis and modular imaging system, Evolv’s technology is unique and not easily duplicated anywhere in the world."

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated uniqueness in developing and leveraging new technologies that deliver significant customer value.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research to identify best practices in the industry.

Wiz Emerges from Stealth with $100 Million Series A Financing and a Mission to Reinvent Cloud Security

New financing from Index Ventures, Sequoia and Insight Partners comes just nine months after the first line of code; Wiz’s cloud security platform already in use at Fortune 100 customers at scale

PALO ALTO, Calif. and TEL AVIV, Israel, Dec. 10, 2020 — Wiz, a fast-growing cloud security innovator, today emerged from stealth with $100 million in Series A financing from Index Ventures, Sequoia, Insight Partners and Cyberstarts. The new financing, just nine months after the Wiz founding team wrote its first line of code, will help the company scale to meet customer demand for cloud security solutions that provide complete risk visibility and are simple to deploy at scale. Doug Leone, global managing partner at Sequoia Capital, Shardul Shah, partner at Index Ventures, Jeff Horing, managing director at Insight Partners, and Gili Raanan of Cyberstarts will be joining the Wiz team as board members.

"When our founding team was leading the Microsoft Cloud Security Group, we saw firsthand how security teams struggled with the complexity of existing approaches to securing the cloud," said Assaf Rappaport, CEO and co-founder of Wiz. "We knew that by embracing a cloud-native approach, we could make a product that is simple to deploy and scale, allowing security teams to focus on real risks. We’re excited to partner with such an experienced and well-respected team of investors again as we look to accelerate our growth in 2021, and meet the market demand for an elegant cloud security platform that works."

Cloud security is broken. Today’s cloud security suites are complex, fragmented and generate too many alerts for security teams. Having spoken with hundreds of CISOs to validate the need, Wiz designed its product from the ground up to provide unmatched visibility and risk insights to allow security professionals to focus on things that matter most. Wiz’s unique architecture allows for seamless scanning of the entire cloud environment across all compute types and cloud services for vulnerabilities, configuration, network, and identity issues without agents or sidecars.

"My team couldn’t believe how easy it was to get Wiz up and running," said Emily Heath, Chief Trust and Security Officer at Docusign. "The instant, out-of-the box visibility and value it provides make one of the best security tools I’ve seen in a long time."

"The Wiz founding team is among the most customer-obsessed groups of founders I’ve worked with and it shows in the product they’ve brought to market," said Shardul Shah, partner at Index Ventures. "2020 has accelerated cloud adoption, and security teams have to coordinate with the rest of the business in a new digitally transformed reality. Wiz is the solution that these organizations need to not only secure the investments they’ve made, but to get security teams out in front where they can enable engineering and lines of business to innovate even faster."

Wiz was founded in January 2020 by the former leads of Microsoft’s Cloud Security Group and the founding team of Adallom, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2015 for $320 million. The team of Assaf Rappaport, Ami Luttwak, Yinon Costica and Roy Reznik have worked together for more than 15 years, including at Adallom where they built a fast-growing leader in the cloud access broker security (CASB) space. The team’s experience working with customers as a cloud platform vendor at Microsoft, combined with their past experience as entrepreneurs, has helped them build a cloud-native security product already used by paying customers, including Fortune 100 companies.

"When we first met the Wiz founding team in 2012 during the early days of Adallom, it was clear they were a passionate group with a deep understanding of the security space ," said Doug Leone, global managing partner at Sequoia Capital. "Eight years later, the team has only gotten stronger with the founding of Wiz. Their past experiences executing at scale and their hunger to build an enduring company will help Wiz lead the market with a new generation of cloud security tools. We’re thrilled to partner again with this exceptional founding team."

"We’re excited to work with Wiz because the team not only understands how to build great products but they also know how to build a successful team and company," said Jeff Horing, managing partner, Insight Partners. "Customer feedback has unanimously highlighted the benefit Wiz’s powerful data mining and audit software brings the global business ecosystem, and after only nine months they’re already in a place to redefine the Cloud Security market."

About Wiz

Wiz is a fast-growing cloud security innovator that helps companies secure their cloud infrastructure at scale. Founded by the same team that founded Adallom and led Microsoft’s Cloud Security Group, Wiz provides security teams with the simplicity, visibility and risk insights they need to stay one step ahead of their business. Based in Palo Alto, Calif. And Tel Aviv, Israel, Wiz is backed by Sequoia Capital, Index Ventures, Insight Partners and Cyberstarts. For more information, visit www.wiz.io.

HokuApps – The Engine for Roofing Southwest’s Growth to U.S. National Prominence

Launched in 2018, HokuApps-Designed Mobile App Has Allowed Roofing Southwest Continue Contactless Work Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic

HOUSTON, Dec. 9, 2020 — Since its founding in 1971, Phoenix, AZ-based Roofing Southwest has grown into a national player in all 50 states, ranking it the #14 roofing companies in the country. As part of its corporate culture, the firm has always placed a high priority in adopting new technology, with one of the most significant advances occurring in 2018 when they partnered with HokuApps to develop a groundbreaking mobile roofing app.

Available for iOS on the App Store, the software allowed Roofing Southwest to dramatically reduce the number of staff and in-person visits required for routine inspections, on-site crew management, daily work updates and security alerts. Over the past three years, the relationship never waned as HokuApps continued to work with the company, responding to feedback with steady updates and refinements. Perhaps the most significant advantage of the app has been felt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to the app’s powerful tools, Roofing Southwest has been able to maintain "business as usual" while easily adhering to virus safety guidelines such as contactless interactions. The app even incorporated a "start day inspection" questionnaire to check whether any of the crew were in proximity to a COVID patient, a tool which was previously done on-site with paper forms.

It is HokuApps’ perspective that business relationships don’t end once the app is deployed. They value a long association with their clients and believe in a philosophy of steady evolution which benefits everyone involved. Before HokuApps began working with Roofing Southwest, the company had relied on a hodgepodge of paper forms, decentralized data storage and a disparate collection of software applications that were not necessarily even compatible. The app’s deployment instantly reduced wait-times and finally enabled real-time collaboration between engineers, field inspectors and foremen across the 50-state organization to exponentially boost Roofing Southwest’s efficiency, accuracy, and customer service experience. These great advantages proved to have perfect timing with the spread of COVID-19 and the mandated safety precautions.

"We are proud of our long association with Roofing Southwest and always give them the best possible support in terms of upgrades and updates," said Nand Kapoor, Director of HokuApps. "In the three years that they have used this app, it has become a critical driver in the company’s transition to a technology-driven, highly efficient business. Nothing exemplifies this more than the way they were able to smoothly ride through the COVID-19 crisis with minimal disruptions to their workflows and deliveries."

"I would say that this app built by HokuApps for us has been a savior in these difficult times of COVID-19," said R.J. Radobenko, President, Roofing Southwest. "Though it had already more than proved its worth in the past, in these difficult days of the pandemic, with all the social distancing requirements, that it has proved invaluable.  We would have been severely impacted if we still relied on the old paper-based reporting system that required extensive face-to-face interactions."

About HokuApps

HokuApps is the fast-growing technology platform that empowers organizations to develop innovative technology solutions incredibly fast. The rapid application development platform has enhanced mobile and data integration capabilities to enable companies to speedily deploy mobile and web applications. HokuApps empowers organizations to usher in their digital transformation journey to better engage with customers, partners, and employees.

You need something durable. For that, Acer has an answer. Welcome to the TravelMate P2, the perfect combination to power, portability, and durability.

Acer TravelMate P2

The TravelMate P2 packs a lot of puch with an 11th generation Intel Core processor paired to an integrated Intel Iris X Graphics. With the powerful processors you can kit the TravelMate P2 with up to 1TB of hard drive space or 512GB of SSD storage to ensure that you have your data with you, accessible at all times. You can even kit your TravelMate P2 with up to 32GB of RAM if you need the capabilities and speed.

With MIL-STD-810G build standards, you can work with it under light rain, spill tea and coffee on it, or even take it into the toilet (why would you do that though?). You can even drop it from the table, or the shelf, or maybe even stand on it. The TravelMate P2 can take it all, and still be your most reliable work mate. (We do not encourage any of the above behaviours, any damages to your newly purchased notebooks are your own doing and are not our responsibility)

For extra security, the TravelMate P2i s equipped with a hardware level Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 protection. This means that your hard drive is properly secured and will only work with the proper authorisation. Additionally there is Windows Hello with fingerprint sensor and facial recognition to lock and unlock the Acer TravelMate P2.

For a better wireless working experience, the TravelMate P2 packs WiFi 6 for better, and more stable internet connection. With the right router, you can make calls in the soaking rain without fear of internet stability, so your colleagues can see you working very hard in any situation and location, even your kitchen. If you do not want your colleagues to see you, simply cover the 720 webcam with the built-in lens cover.

Acer Enduro N3 Rugged Notebook

Source: Acer

Need something even more durable? Need more than just an MIL-STD-810G certification? Maybe some water resistance. That is the Acer Enduro N3.

On top of the MIL-STD-810G, this has IP53 certification. This also means that you can take in into the showers (again, why?), get into the rain, or even the bathtub. Whatever the condition, the Acer Enduro N3 will endure and work for you.

You are not sacrificing that much as well for that kind of ruggedness. It is the thinnest and lightest kind of notebook PC in its class at 24.85mm thick and 1.985kg. Understandably it packs Corning’s Gorilla Glass on top. The Aquafan installed on the PC is also built to ensure that no water can get through into the internals of the device.

Obviously, this is something you take off-site. In those cases, you might not even have any reliable power source to work with at any given time. In that case, the Acer Enduro N3’s battery pack can sustain your work time for 13 hours, more than enough for a full working day.

Of course, when you are out and about, security is always a concern. Not with the Acer Endure N3 though. The notebook PC features TPM 2.0 to keep all your sensitive data private and protected. Speaking of data, the Enduro N3 comes with up to a 256GB SSD storage for quick access to all your needed files.

Acer Enduro T1 Rugged Tablet

Source: Acer

Unless you feel that a notebook is still a little cumbersome. You do not really need a full-fledged PC to take your work with you. You need something even more portable and pocketable. You need the Acer Enduro T1 tablet.

The Acer Enduro T1 boasts the same MIL-STD-810G build standards as the Acer Enduro N3 notebook. It also boasts some water resistance with IP54 rating. All this, in a body that weighs 500g.

You do not get Full HD on the display, but the 1,280 by 800-pixel display measuring in at 8-inch or 10-.1-inch should be enough for you to work with. It has 4GB of RAM, which might not sound like much, but should be enough for most applications you need on a tablet form factor. You also get 64GB of storage with MicroSD expansion capabilities. It even comes with 10 hours of continuous battery life, for you to be off-site as long as you need to be.

Standard Commended by Frost & Sullivan for Ensuring a Frictionless Payment Process with its Checkout-Free Platform for Retailers

Standard seamlessly integrates AI and computer vision technology into the retailer’s existing infrastructure, providing an enhanced shopping experience for customers

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 9, 2020 — Based on its recent analysis of the North American autonomous retail checkout market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Standard with the 2020 North American Technology Innovation Leadership Award. Through a first-of-its-kind AI- and computer vision-powered checkout-free solution, the Standard platform enables a frictionless shopping experience for customers, enabling them to walk into a store, grab what they need, and walk out without having to stand in line or scan anything. The Standard platform also helps retailers autonomously capture product data and track customer movement in a store. It leverages deep-learning-based product segmentation and an identification technique to provide real-time intelligence to retailers for improved customer retention, smooth purchase experiences, and higher profits.

Standard

"Unlike competing solutions that require a gamut of custom hardware systems, shelving, sensors, and scanning software that drive up the cost and complexity of implementation at the store, Standard’s retail checkout infrastructure consists of nothing more than AI-based ceiling-mounted cameras. This setup enables simple integration of the company’s infrastructure into the store’s existing layout, thereby eliminating the need for reconfiguration," said Dhiraj Badgujar, industry analyst at Frost & Sullivan. "Standard has also created an alternative checkout-free model that can be utilized by all brick-and-mortar retailers, irrespective of store size."

Standard’s computer vision cameras track customers based on their shape and movement, eliminating the need for scanning, facial recognition, and other biometric identification processes while ensuring customer privacy and security. Customers within the store are connected through the Standard mobile app (which can be white labeled by retailers) that enables in-store cameras to map them to their payment methods. The data captured by the cameras is transferred to the AI platform installed at the checkout counter, where machine learning algorithms process it in real time to instantly recognize which items the person has, provide insights and enable a smooth payment experience, thereby eliminating the long wait time at the payment counter.

Standard’s technology is less expensive than competing solutions and can be easily retrofitted; it leverages cameras that are cost-effective and flexible enough for easy deployment within stores. Other solutions, in contrast, utilize sensors installed on multiple shelves, involve scanning, and require the store to adjust to the solution. Standard’s technology can recognize thousands of different products within a 20-foot range, even in a very crowded store.

"The company uses a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model to successfully demonstrate its platform for global retail customers. Initially focused on securing a strong foothold in the United States, Standard has expanded into Europe, Japan, and other markets around the world," noted Badgujar. "The combination of resources, proven expertise, and affordable technology development has enabled Standard to achieve commercial success and position itself as a trusted partner in the North American autonomous retail checkout industry."

"With the ability to now safely shop in seconds without waiting in line, our customers around the world tell us that the Standard platform has transformed the retail experience," said Jordan Fisher, Founder and CEO, Standard. "We are honored to receive this award, the result of the tireless and groundbreaking work of the entire Standard team."

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents the Technology Innovation Leadership Award to the company that has demonstrated uniqueness in developing and leveraging new technologies that deliver significant customer value.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Acer Launches the Swift 3 and Swift 5 – Next Generation Ultrabook for the Discerning Working-Class Malaysian

The working environment and requirements today is vastly different from before. Especially in the conditions that we know today, the workspace has really shifted from the office, to home, or to anywhere else you are comfortable. Work has shifted from an office only affair to a remote situation. The key phrase here is “anywhere, anytime”.

But it is not just the working class that has shifted, the classrooms have shifted too. The classroom is not a location anymore. The progress has started since Google introduced their suite of Classroom and learning focused tools, to be fair. But with the conditions now, a classroom can be your own bedroom, or your kitchen, or your dining room, or even the café next door.

Your learning space and workspace is technically wherever you are comfortable with. But that also means that you can change your work environment as you please. If you have a large enough balcony, you can relax and work at the same time. Even at the pool side if you have one. You need to be portable though. That is why you need the ultra-portable Swift series from Acer.

The Acer Swift 5

Source: Acer

The Acer Swift 5 is still the symbol of power and portability in Acer’s stable of devices. It is still the same size and weight of the previous Acer Swift 5 for 2019. There are some differences here though.

The Acer Swift 5 for 2020 packs a one-piece glass protected 14-inch Full HD display up front with integrated bezel instead of the plastic bezel casing of the 2019 version. It is still a touch display too. We think that it looks very cool too, in its 2020 skin. Oh yes, there are some new colours too.

Visually then, the differences are subtle enough that you might not notice. Technically as well, the rest of the Swift 5 is no different from the 2019 version, including its keyboard. Most of the differences are kept within the lightweight 1.05kg body though.

You get a new 11th generation Intel Core processor up to a Core i7-1165G7. The Core i7 is paired to Intel’s latest Iris X Graphics. Technically, the Swift 5 should be able to handle 4K video processing smoothly enough with the combination of the processor and GPU. Just do not expect the Acer Swift 5 to destroy your table with the processing speed.

The Intel Evo platform notebook PC with the new processor allows the Acer Swift 5’s battery to last up to 15 hours on a single charge. The battery is a fast-charging one too, just so that you do not have to be stuck near a wall socket and enjoy the weather at your pool area or balcony.

The Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass covered display ensures that your display stays bacteria free and your fingers clean too when you interact with the touch screen. As we all know, touch screens can be very gross under the microscope. Of course, you will appreciate the 100% sRGB colour gamut too if you need to work with videos and photos.

The Acer Swift 3

Source: Acer

If you need something a little more budget friendly you can get the Acer Swift 3. You do not get the touch screen of the Swift 5 mind you. It is also slightly heavier at 1.2kg, and at 15.95mm, thicker than the Swift 5.

You still get a beautiful IPS display with Full HD resolution though. Within the aluminium and magnesium body construction is still a powerful 11th generation Intel Core i7 (up to). With the powerful new CPU is an Intel Iris X Graphics integrated GPU that should be able to handle even light video editing. With 16GB of RAM (up to) and 512GB off SSD storage (up to), you should not be left wanting more in speed and power from a lightweight and ultra-portable package.

Like the Swift 5, it comes with WiFi 6 technology too for an extra stable and speedy wireless internet connection in your home (if you have a WiFi 6 router). On top of that, it packs 11 hours of battery life and it even fast charges. No, that is not as long as the Acer Swift 5, but 11 hours is still more than a full workday, technically.

Price and Availability

The Acer Swift 3 and Swift 5 is now available at Acer authorised resellers nationwide and Acer official online stores (including Lazada and Shopee). The Acer Swift 5 will be available in Mist Green colour option for now. The Acer Swift 5 will set you back from MYR 3,999.

Source: Acer

The Acer Swift 3 will be available in three colour options to really fit your personality. It is available in Pure Silver, Aqua Blue, and Melon Pink. The Core i7 variant is only available in Pure Silver colour option. The new Acer Swift 3 will set you back MYR 3,299 onward.

Customers who purchase the Acer Swift 5, Swift 3 equipped with 11th Gen Intel® Coreprocessors before 31 December 2020 will be entitled to redeem free gifts, including up to RM100 worth of Touch ‘n Go eWallet credit and personalized premium laptop sleeves.
