Samsung’s KitKat Update Plans Leaked: Galaxy S3 and S3 mini Left in the Dark
Owner’s of older Samsung devices rejoice! Samsung’s plans for update to their existing devices has leaked. It seems a majority of their devices are getting this update and soon! Note II and Note 2 LTE owners can expect to receive this update in the near future whilst those who have an S4, S4 min, S4 mini LTE, Note 3 Neo, Grand 2, or Mega will have to wait for a month. Those of us in Malaysia thought will have to wait a while – about 2-3 weeks after the release dates in the document which lists the US release dates of the updates.
However, if you own a Samsung Galaxy S3 or S3 Mini, you are out of luck. According to the document, these devices have had their update axed due to unresolved problems, which is being speculated is due to the enormous amount of extra space that Samsung’s TouchWiz interface takes up. However, it seems to be quite apparent to developers as the LTE variant of the S3 receiving an update has 2GB of RAM compared to the 1GB of RAM in the S3 and S3 Mini. Also, Google announced at the release of Android 4.4 Kit Kat that it was built to run on devices with as little as 512MB of RAM.
We’ll have to wait and see if Samsung follows through with the Android 4.4 Kit Kat update for the S3 and S3 mini.
