Samsung Galaxy Alpha Leaked in All Its Glory!
The Samsung Galaxy Alpha was initially thought to be released under the moniker Galaxy S5 Prime, but it seems like the device that fits that category has already released in Korea with LTE advanced connectivity. However, it does look like the device is getting close to launch, at least with the increasing amount of rumours and leaks.
Let’s get started with what has been confirmed by leaks from reliable sources. A recent screen grab from the Samsung Developer console confirms that the Galaxy Alpha will come with a HD 720p screen – which makes it decidedly mid-range. But we have to consider the premium build and whether Samsung is targeting a particular market with a price point in mind. Will the phone be able to compete with the likes of the LG G3 which come with a QuadHD display? Personally, I think it can, if it is geared towards an upper midrange market that means people who want a premium feel but may not want to splurge as much. However, on the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is also geared to compete directly with the iPhone 6, which rumoured to have two variants a 4.7-inch variant and a 5.5-inch variant. We all know that Samsung has the Phablet (5.5-inch) arena covered with the upcoming Samsung Note 4, it leaves little doubt that the Alpha will be geared towards those who prefer a smaller form factor and would consider the iPhone.
Another piece of information that has been confirmed is that the Galaxy Alpha will be coming with an Exynos Octa 5433 processor which is also rumoured to be in the Note 4. The eight core processor has only been surpassed in benchmarks by the Nvidia Tegra K1. However, benchmarks are not always a true reflection of real life performance. It will also come with a 12-Megapixel main camera and also a 2.1-megapixel front facing camera. In addition, the AnTuTu benchmark reveals that the phone is equipped with 2 GB of RAM and will come with Android KitKat 4.4.4.
Another leak confirms that the device will come with a 4G LTE connectivity, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and 32GB of internal storage. The leak also says that there will be no microSD support – something very uncharacteristic of Samsung.
The device looks to be a slimmer, smaller sibling of the Galaxy S5, with a metal build. Recent pictures also reveal that the device will come in black and white versions with a shiny, removable metal back. The screen is also rumoured to be a 4.8-inch screen. It is also expected that the phone will come equipped with a microSD slot. We also know that Samsung is playing around with new materials for their devices thanks to one of their executives who teases new materials.
Now down to the rumours, it was initially rumoured that the device was supposed to be revealed at an event today. However, the lack of announcement event and also the lack of news from Samsung lead us to believe that the phone may make its debut next week on the 13th of August (US time – meaning 14th August for Asia). With a release date that soon, we expect that Samsung didn’t want the spotlight taken away from the device or rather, they’d rather focus on the Galaxy Note line of devices closer to IFA. Also, there is speculation that Samsung may release a Snapdragon variant of the Galaxy Alpha, but there has been no leaks supporting this theory.
