Samsung Galaxy A Series (2017) Brings Premium Features to the Affordable Mid-range
The Samsung Galaxy A Series (2017) is almost ready for you to lay your hands on. It is one of the most anticipated devices from Samsung, because of the premium features from the highly popular Galaxy S7 and S7 edge that make it into these mid-range devices.
Just recently, Samsung launched the 2017 editions of the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 in Malaysia. This makes Malaysia the first country in the world to receive the much-anticipated mid-range line up from Samsung. Just to sweeten the pot, Samsung has fulfilled their promise of bringing premium features to the devices for the year 2017 For starters, the Galaxy A Series (2017) is now equipped with the Super AMOLED display which is normally reserved for their flagship Samsung Galaxy S series. Then there are the new 16-megapixel cameras on both the front and back of the devices. They even managed to get an IP68 dust and water resistance rating to the device, something you do not see every day with a mid-range device.
The first thing you might notice when you pick up either the Samsung Galaxy A5 or Galaxy A7 (2017) is the large screen. The latter being bigger of the two, the Galaxy A5 packs a 5.2-inch display while the Galaxy A7 comes with a whopping 5.7-inch display, an upgrade over the 5.5-inch display of their previous Galaxy A7 – also the first A7 to have a large screen bigger than even the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. Both are Super AMOLED types, which is quite uncommon to see in mid-range devices. Super AMOLED displays are known to be very bright and to project mightily vivid colours and images. These Super AMOLEDs also are almost exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy S and Note series of premium devices…
With the new Super AMOLED, the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 becomes a totally new device for the year 2017. Images are bright and vivid, colours are so saturated it’s as if you are looking at the real thing. With the large 1080p Full HD resolution, images and videos are more breath-taking and detailed.
Then there are the cameras; two 16-Megapixel cameras wedging the front and the back of the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7. You read that right! Both the rear and front camera come with 16-megapixel sensors. Blurry, grainy, unclear photos are a thing of a past with the cameras arming the Galaxy A 2017 series. With both sporting f/1.9 aperture lenses, shots are clear even in low-light conditions. The 2017 editions of the devices are the first in the successful mid-range line-up to receive this premium feature. Rain or shine, wet or dry, there is nothing to worry about with the new IP68 dust and water resistant rating of the Samsung Galaxy A Series (2017). Spillage is no longer a heart-attack inducing event with the Galaxy A5 (2017) or Galaxy A7 (2017). The IP68 dust and water resistant ratings allow you to drop it into the water at 1.5m deep for 30 minutes. This even allows you to take a short swim with it in the swimming pool while talking on the phone (well no one has done that before, tell us how that works in the comments; that is if you tried it). Using it in the rain is no longer an issue, spilling your morning coffee on it does not break it (warning: the lack of coffee might break you).
Quite obviously most of its features are inspired from Samsung’s industry leading Galaxy S series of devices over the past years. In a sense, much of the device is influenced by last year’s Samsung Galaxy S7 edge premium device. Even the Always On display was influenced by the highly successful Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7. You even get fast charging this time around so that you do not have to be bogged down in the corner of your room just for power.
There is a new fingerprint sensor this time, nowhere to be found in the previous generations. You also get USB Type-C, which is the new standard in smartphones – it simply shows how Samsung thought of every minute detail with these devices (Micro USB is so yesterday). All the features that were more common on high-end devices. Even the design of the Galaxy A Series (2017) is an influence of the very successful Galaxy S7 edge. The slight curve on the front screen so telling of its older, more premium brother. The taper at the back of the device harkening back to the Galaxy Note5 curved back. The result; the illusion of size.
The device feels smaller than it actually is; not uncomfortable small, just the right size even with a large screen on top of it. The tapers in the 3D glass back fits perfectly to the shapes of your palms to give that assured, comfortable grip. The glass feels solid too with no give whatsoever, giving you the illusion that it is actually one solid piece of material – it feels bullet proof (of course it is not, try it at your own risk if you really wish).
It is truly a stunning device. This is one device you really want to look at if you are in the market for a new device priced below MYR2,000. With the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) priced at MYR1,699 while the Galaxy A7 (2017) priced at MYR1,899, they are slightly more expensive than the previous generation of Galaxy A devices. But consider this; they are still priced below MRY2,000, yet they pack features that you normally see on high-end premium phones; not one or two features, a lot of them. So at those prices, you are looking at two of the best devices that money can buy. It the best bang for buck on the market right now.
Don’t forget, the devices are now on pre-order until the 22nd of January and you’ll get a Samsung LEVEL U Pro wireless headset worth RM399. You can check out the pre-orders with any Samsung Partner including SenHeng, SatuGadget, DirectD and more. If you can’t make it to a Samsung partner, there is nothing to worry about, you’ve got Lazada and 11street. The pre-order deal is on a first come, first serve basis, and while stocks last only though. Which actually means there is no time to waste, you need to get one as soon as you can. You become the first of people in the world to own a Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) or Galaxy A7 (2017), and then you get to use the uber cool Level U headsets.
The way we see it, it is a win-win situation. What are you waiting for? It’s time to visit a Samsung authorised store! This deal won’t be available for too long!
